Renegade Regulator

Restore CSA;

The CSA announced that the next amendment to Canada’s electrical laws will be released in the first week of January, 2018. Indeed, the CSA is even taking pre-orders on their website. They’re also offering review seminars in December. That is, if you pay them five hundred dollars, they’ll tell you what they’ve changed in the law before they release it this January.
That’s illegal.

  1. Oh great, just calling electricians today to look at my old panel before I rip the basement apart and afraid of what I’m going to hear due to the old regs…..

  2. Well if you need a quote, drop me an e-mail.
Kate, are you aware of any other media outlets covering this story? This issue of ongoing corruption is fascinating.

  5. Corruption in governments is systemic. Those in the Western world are as bad as anywhere – they just have better optics.
There is no way those behind this corruption would allow either the government (which they control) or their media assets to shine a light on this. Now go back to work, serfs.

  6. People wonder why I do my own work and source outside the country. Outside of hooking to a main line, it’s pretty much child’s play. CSA is extortioning corporation that’s embedded within the Laurentian Elite. No way that tick is ever going to be pulled.

  7. Which is why “restoring” the CSA means what, exactly? It was always a tool of the Laurentians; it has never had a state other than that. Regulate and control everything, said all libertarians everywhere. Right?

  8. While I agree the Canadian Standards Association is a corrupt organization, the RESTORE CSA blogger really should better explain the difference between the Standard and the Law.
In fact CSA C22 is not a law and changes to it are irrelevant UNTIL the provincial legislator adopts the changes. By missing that fine point of law (as stupid as it seems) he really is hurting his case.
For the record, I agree with him. I think his published guides are in the public interest and therefore fair use laws should apply. Especially since the CSA is a quasi Crown Corporation and I believe is supposed to be a non-profit. As such, the pay of the directors should be more of a small honorarium.
The wholesale corruption documented by RestoreCSA needs to be addressed under the racketeering laws of Canada.

  9. FYI, the code is automatically law in several provinces immediately upon release. In this, the CSA is directly amending the law.

  10. So IGNORANCE of the law is now a legal excuse?
How about; “I had no untaxed dollars left to buy the law, before I tried to earn some money”.
CSA is as corrupt as any branch of a full blown Kleptocracy.
Rules are for the little people.
Once the Ministry of Industry gets the “right” judge to adjudicate this, all will be well in the bureaus.
Each relevation shows how systemic the rot is.
Very likely the current occupants are so stupid that this will go to the mob.
When ones paycheck is dependent on “going along to get along” it is truly amazing what can be “overlooked” and willfully not seen.
Can this mess be peacefully reformed?
I have seen no evidence so far.
