The only time I had any contact with MADD must have been
almost a decade ago and it was remarkably unpleasant even
by telemarketer standards. Nice to know nothing has changed.
Good. When rational laws are created the rational people leave organizations like MADD leaving on the zealots. MADD stopped being a reasonable organization decades ago and has become a group of opportunistic ambulance chasers using every tragedy to push for more and more severe legislation. Zero tolerance doesn’t work.

MADD is, and always has been, a vehicle to promote the old Women’s Christian Temperance Union. Drinking and driving is not their prime issue. The sale and consumption of liquor is.
And it’s never untimely to be reminded of what’s wrong with the use of professional fundraisers. Whatever the cause, however worthy you may think it, you should not be pleased to see them benefit from charitable gifts to the value of $2.5million if it cost an additional $4.1million of other charitable giving to put that $2.5million in their hands.

As I recall the original founder of MADD left the organization years ago and when Gormley interviewed the chairman of the group a year or two back it was clear that the guy was more interested in promoting every progressive cause and as far as drinking & driving the only thing that would satisfy him was a return to total abolition of booze. When 90% of your fund raising is going to paying the fundraisers and the salaries of those who run the organization then its time for the rest of us to walk away and proclaim loudly…NO MORE MONEY FROM ME !!!!
I had a guy phone me and I said I probably would make a contri-, but send me some info. He demanded I be at my door,cash in hand to donate.. Fk them, and why does mothers always have male C.E.O’s ?.. sice then I don’t donate to anyone.
Bingo! It seems that many organizations that have a start in a good cause end up being a front for advocating leftist causes and more government control.
Greenpeace being taken over by leftist zealots is a prime example.
I don’t care if this is from 2008. madd hasn’t done a noteworthy thing in decades. They have become nothing but a temperance organization and are about 100 years too late.
The feds should revoke their charity status.
Regardless of how it begins, every bureaucracy eventually ends up being about self-perpetuation. This is Rule 0 of organizational psych. Now consider what would happen to every issue-driven advocacy group if their pet issue were to be resolved to their satisfaction…charities should have a strict five-year limit on tax-exempt status. If they haven;t fixed their problem by then, they can quit or admit they’re in it for the money.
Doesn’t matter when the article was posted in this case. Their motus operandi has been the same for a long, long time.
I made a small but respectable donation around 20 years ago. After that, my SnailMail box was filled with elaborate correspondence in the form of stuffed envelopes full of pages of pre-printed stock propaganda aimed to relive me of more of my disposable income.
Now, the reason I mention this is because I have spent the past 35 years in the printing industry. Pre-printed stock must be run through production laser printers to tailor the end product to an individual. Then, all the pieces and flyer bits must be inserted in envelopes (with pre-paid return envelopes). These pieces of mail would cost a few DOLLARS each at that time.
I finally sent them a letter identifying my concerns and letting them know that I would not be sending them any more money because they wasted so much in their campaign for funds.
As for them being a prohibition type organization, I can’t say that for sure – so I won’t. They sure do piss away a lot of money though.

MADD are nothing more than modern day prohibitionists, prohibition didn t work in the 1920s and it won t work now. Just Imagine that if the Federal government was stupid enough to allow some organization like MADD to pressure them into a prohibition scenario. What do you think would happen then? What would happen is exactly what happened in the 20s, organized crime would move in to fill the vacuum created by Government shortsightedness, precisely as they did the last time this idiocy was attempted. MADD has gone far beyond its original purpose and has become a political special interest group whose own welfare and goals are their only priority.
All of these so-called non-profit organizations are top heavy with well paid management and it’s not unusual for 90% of income to go to ‘operations and overhead’ and hardly any to the reason the organization supposedly exists. Wouldn’t give them a penny,they’re very aggressive and insistent, in the first place they’re useless,we still have people who drive after drinking, MADD cannot stop it. The police forces are doing all they can but there are always going to be people who do it, no amount of education will stop it entirely.
