Great Moments In Socialism

French government resigns en masse;

France’s socialist prime minister resigned along with his entire government yesterday following a meltdown in local elections.
Jean-Marc Ayrault admitted that a huge swing to the Right, including to the extremist National Front, was down to him and his Left-wing government.
And last night socialist President Francois Hollande – whose rule has become synonymous with a 75 per cent top rate of income tax – admitted to mistakes and said his priority was now to cut taxes.
The government’s resignation is a huge blow to the president, who was elected to a five-year term in 2012 but whose first two years in power have seen him become the most unpopular head of state in recent history.

  1. Phantom prediction: the Control Everything Left will shortly be replaced in France by the Control Everything Right. Both “sides” will call the other fascists, and both will be correct. They will fiddle with the deck chairs, maybe deport a bunch of Turks and rattle their rusty old sabre a bit, but the Great Ship of State will steam on toward the rocks all the same.
It will not occur to the French populace that the solution is LESS GOVERNMENT, because French culture seems to prevent that particular thought from getting any traction.
Actual change will not occur until the hole thing hits the rocks and gets battered to pieces by the waves of starving zombies.
This concludes my prediction (and exercise in mixing metaphors) for today.

  2. Government, these days and not just in France, is the faceless sinecured bureaucrat.
The bureaucrats are unlikely to resign singly or en masse.
The socialists are unpopular in France because of the tax measures they have enacted in order to keep from cutting programs and laying off the bureaucrats.
Whoever does what needs to be done, will be just as unpopular.

  3. It boggles my mind that grown men and women thought that they could improve the economy and create jobs by increasing taxes and removing wealth from the economy. And yet, here I sit in Ontario.

  4. Evidently, there are not enough (Sun Kings) “Le Roi Soleil” in France to tax into oblivion…
Or as Louis XIV once noted:
“Every time I appoint someone to a vacant position, I make a hundred unhappy and one ungrateful.”
So when do the mobs throw out the Socialists with torchlights and pitchforks?

  5. Oh Paul, the smug is thick.
The current “Conservative” government in Alberta is a Liberal government, don’t ya know?
The main cities in Alberta have been taken over by leftist municipal governments.
We conservative’s in Ontario are fighting the good fight. (Ideological conservatives, which have squat to do with the Ontario opposition party called the ‘Progressive Conservatives’.)
I think it’s time you Albertan’s started to fight your own leftist demons and spend less time generalizing and belittling those battling and living with the dark side elsewhere.
The enemy of my enemy is my friend. Why do you (to be fair..you and many here) take such pleasure in lumping all Ontarian’s into the same pot? It could be said that Alberta is now a leftist province intent on emulating the current direction of Ontario. However I don’t rub your face in it. I guess it’s just a different understanding of how to show respect for others.
Paul, you would be referring to Prime Minister Ignatieff right now if not for conservative voters in Ontario.
In the future, I would assume it would be more practical if all conservative’s pull together in the understanding that we are all fighting the same evil.

  6. The only good news for the socialists was the election of Anne Hidalgo as first woman mayor of Paris.

This should be good for some laffs.

  7. Having lived in France for a work contract, I will state unequivocally that when the right gets into power, it will be gloves off and definitely not status quo.
There are massive scores to be settled, and it will not stop at the deportation of a few Turks.
The right will go a hell of a lot further than that, and I don’t blame them one bit.
The suburbs may burn down, but it will be the paramilitaries who will light the match..just you watch.

  8. sorry mea culpa
thought it was april fools joke that progressives would resign when they become unpopular

  9. Hey kids! I bet with enough sweat and effort, we could turn this old barn into a Sixth Republic! Who’s with me?
    — Mickey Rooney

  10. Will this mean massive Marxist street rioting? Will they join with their ideological bedmates the muslim?

  11. A cursory look at what’s on the agenda in governance here in Alberta over the next year shows your comments are correct.
The Calgary Herald and others in the media seem to be their cheerleaders, and the polls they run are always of the “something’s got to be done” sort.
There isn’t anything conservative about our Progressive Conservatives. Our mayors, are liberals.
    all is lost.

  12. There has been a provincial revolt to the leftist liberal scum here in Alberta and she was turfed. As for the cities in Alberta It is the other provinces parasites that have moved here and do what they do best manipulate the media, and get into politics while the conservatives could not be bothered to vote, or care as “it doesn’t affect them” lol. We are fighting back. We are trying.
There is nothing smug about me or my statements. I don’t blame all Ontario but there is a culture there that even conservatives will vote liberal if it means protecting there unionized cushy jobs , to me that is a liberal because real conservatives would stand up for liberty and freedom and free markets ect ect. even if it meant it cost them there job. but everyone is such pussies now not just in Ontario.
The thing that bothers me the most is how relentless these liberal, socialist, communist,Marxists, eco freaks are.
And why we as conservatives just let them? why don’t we meet violence with violence? why don’t we do what they do?
The first thing they do when they move to a new area is get into politics, get into government, and start working from within.

  13. Population is increasing. Automation and outsourcing is reducing the number of jobs. Politicians seem to think that giving everyone a government job will solve the problem and buy more votes. Politicians also seem to think that their job is to create more laws to somehow control the growing numbers of unemployed. The result is a growing government bureaucracy that only becomes more controlling and more inefficient. This can’t end well, unless the population somehow reduces, and ebola isn’t efficient enough to accomplish that.

  14. Hopefully in the USA come November we will have a redux of France. My one outstanding prayer is too see Harry Reid (D) Senate Majority Leader axed.

  15. You nailed it Phantom. Europe’s left is socialist and blames KORPORASHUNS and the rich when it fails. Europe’s right is socialist and blames foreigners and trade when it fails. Geert Wilders in particular likes to blame Muslims.
It should be noted that the Front National has done this before-taken over city halls in significant number-in the mid ’90s, only to govern incompetently and lose them all.

  16. What seems to be so transparently wrong with the Nench Fationalist movement is thinly veiled in the libertarian movement. Goldberg notes there is a distinct difference between nationalism and patriotism and between the many coats worn by Le Pen oligarch and Le Pen femigarch one cannot find the latter. This is french.

  17. So France is the country that Quebec feels should be its role model, not something to look forward too. Hey Quebec maybe its time for a little bit of economic and political reality, Marois is incompetent and everyone but the most rabid separatist can see it.

  18. THE NATIONAL FRONT IS FAR LEFT
The party platform of the National Front has swung far left since Le Pen senior stepped down. His platform focused on crime and immigration. When his 45-year old daughter took over she filled in all the blanks with nation-centered socialism.
