“…about twenty PC MLAs had agreed to cross the floor on Monday and form an independent Conservative party”

Gord Tulk;

A bit of a timeline (some of this may never hit the MSM) :
By the end of last week (Thursday) about twenty PC MLAs had agreed to cross the floor on Monday and form an independent Conservative party. They had the paperwork ready for filing. There was a caucus meeting on Sunday where Redford pleaded (well not pleaded – likely more like argued) to remain as leader and that she would change her imperious ways (she was a recluse compared to Nixon). Most of the caucus relented on pressing for her resignation.
On Monday she made this promise to be a new Alison publicly. The rank and file of the PCs were having none of it however. And almost all of the riding associations revolted and organized a meeting where they would vote to insist on her removal – a remarkable repudiation of the PC MLAs. That became public today. The entire party elite has been found wanting. It’s difficult to see how they survive as a party after the next election.
And now she’s gone.

  1. There are no “real conservatives”,or at least very few, in the realm of politics.
    Instead, we have entitled mediocrities who saw an easy way to make a very good living without all the effort it takes to attain the same benefits in the private sector.
    There are, of course,exceptions, but from my observations over the past fifty years, I believe there are far more of the former than the latter.
    I also don’t believe Party principles are as important to budding politicians as is their level of comfort schmoozing with that particular group.
    The last politician I found who did mention principle was one of the original Reformers. I had lunch with the man and found him to be absolutely decent and first-rate,the kind of person to whom duty,honor, and integrity came natural from his upbringing. It was a damned shame he had to retire early due to cancer.
    There were a lot of idealists in that group, but the ever treacherous Eastern MSM portrayed them as ignorant,backward redneck gun-totin’ thugs,and made sure Canada got the government the MSM are comfortable with; entitled liberals.
    Today,with the odd exception, that’s all there is left in Canadian politics, entitled bureaucracy-loving liberal mediocrities,people with no philosophy, content to ride out their term until they can get that lovely pension.

  2. There is nothing more annoying than some mother’s basement bound loser posting as the grammar police on a blog comment section. Onanist. Wanker.

  3. sorry to have to inform you of this, BUTT, there are many of us conservative atheists who do not like religious ppl who bible thump. Then there are ppl, like S Day, who think god invented the world 4000-5000 years ago, they will not get my vote, period. That kind of thinking displays a mental problem just as great as the mental problems of many lieberals. Keep religion personal, and I will respect it, and you for doing so, thump the bible and you lose me rite away!!!!

  4. Don;
    Very well said. The original Reformers held fundamental values.
    Most of what I saw with the core membership that morphed into the CPC in my area has stepped aside. It quickly became apparent that many see politics a way to government pork barrelling. When you consider that all levels of government control over 50% of the GDP one should not be surprised. It is not new behavior, it has gone on for centuries.
    The struggles and sacrifices that our forebearers made are not respected and in many cases not even understood. I have concluded that a collapse and rebuild is the likely out come.

  5. don Morris is right: there are no real conservatives in politics.
    As I have often opined here, there simply is no conservative constituency in Canada. Period.
    People who choose to go into government — to become part of the state apparatus — are not going to argue and advocate for less government.
    It’s naive to expect this.
    We’ll get conservatives when the zeitgeist changes in the fullness of time, measured in decades.
    When the pendulum swings.
    Politicians don’t change the zeitgeist. They ride it.

  6. Then there are ppl, like S Day, who think god invented the world 4000-5000 years ago, they will not get my vote, period. That kind of thinking displays a mental problem just as great as the mental problems of many liberals.

    I can’t believe it! We have something in common! I feel the exact same way about ppl who believe in evolution.

  7. In the last little while there is a definite trend across Canada to get rid of these snooty left wing silver spoon feminist women who came to power around the same time.
    Gone:
    Eva Arriak – Nunavut Premier – Defeated
    Kathy Dunderdale – NL Premier – So unpopular she was forced to Resign
    Allison Redford – Alberta Premier So unpopular she was forced to Resign
    Going:
    Christie Clark – BC Premier – Defeated in her home riding, was too stupid to resign leadership.
    Pauline Marois – Quebec Premier trailing in the polls teetering on collapse, will soon be gone. MSM was thinking majority.
    Kathleen Wynne – Can’t be gone soon enough.

  8. I tried to post a link mentioning the wonderful billboard near the Calgary Airport by the Friends of Science, but your editor chopped me off. At the risk of diverting traffic, the issue is mentioned at Tallblokes. Everybody, please research.
