So, University College London, founded early in the 19th century as England’s first secular university, an enlightenment alternative to the strict religious orthodoxies of Oxford and Cambridge, dedicated to admitting students regardless of their religion and to admitting women on equal terms with men, is, in 2013, hosting meetings where gender segregation is enforced…”
The occasion was a debate called “Islam or Atheism: Which Makes More Sense?”
Attendee Chris Moos:
“Not only did (the organisers) enforce gender segregation, but five security guards of the organiser intimidated and attempted to physically remove audience members who refused to comply, falsely claiming that these attendees had been disruptive…”
Much more at both links.

Religion of “Peace” my effing butt. Yet,I can’t really sympathize cause the stupid limeys invited it themselves.
That someone would even entertain such an idea would boggle the mind but Britain has been going down the toilet for quite some time. This is a consequence of letting emotionally retarded cousin-spouses into your country.
The problem with Britain is they keep trying to change British attitudes and traditions to accommodate the Muslims and their traditions. They are incompatible as they are in all Christian countries. They are slow learners. What’s missing is common sense and the inability to admit their immigration policies are a disaster.

Muslims don’t give a rats patut about social science degrees. The Koran is very explicit in that western society must be destroyed. In other words, the British are idiots.

Britain – a stupid little country….
The real problem is not Mooselems per se, it’s that the people attemding are used to being pushed around and told off by petty officials. Give some clown a Security t-shirt and morons will do damn near anything he says. The faux outrage is just a face saving bit of bluster and a knee jerk reaction against VICTORIAN traditions, not Muslim ones.
In fact, I would bet that the outraged Mr. Hartley and Mr. Moos haven’t even processed that they aren’t rebelling against their great grandfathers. To them them its still the 1920’s and they are the Young Turks come to battle stuffy British class distinctions. They don’t seem to get that its 2013 and they are protecting hard won personal freedoms against a foreign incursion of fascism. By -actual-Turks.
Probably because they are upper middle class nitwits who have been studying Gender Theory instead of reading Von Clausewitz, Sun Tzu and Irwin Rommel’s little book. They don’t know what the Ottoman Empire was or why it finally died, so they can’t understand the current push by the MoBros to put it back together again.
Instead they and their friends get herded about like good little sheep by @$$h0les. That is the problem.
Incidentally, interested parties should check out the Wikipedia entry for Ottoman Empire. Iranian apparatchiks have been at work.
Progressives will sell out gender equality because serving the Islamists is superior to equality. Liberals can only serve one master and as Islamic numbers increase they’ll abandon women and gays in favour of the bearded fanatical Islamists.
There’s a lot of action in the article’s comments.
The episode just reinforces my point that the endgame of western neo-liberalism is law of the jungle. Allow entry into the country of large numbers of immigrants whose worldview is inimical to ours and this is the result. The most aggressive tribal thugs get their way and the weaker and more vulnerable members of society (e.g. effete academics or small females) end up most threatened and intimidated and their freedoms most curtailed. Fortunately there was some push back at this event, though apparently not enough.
If there’s one thing the NRA has taught us it’s don’t give an inch. We have to take Britain’s failed experiment with multi-culti as a warning of what will happen here if we pander to the usual suspects of Orwellian “Human Rights” apparatchiks, the immigration/refugee industry, and their lefty political whores. True human rights, women’s rights especially, will be trampled. Vigilance!
I half agree with you, Phantom. The real problem isn’t Muslims per se, as you note, but neither is the problem, in all its scope, caused – I use that word advisedly – by a dearth of people willing to disobey security guards at university events.
Should people refuse to comply with petty officials at such events? Yes, and writ large this would have an effect. I support such actions in cases such as this one, just as (and here’s a bit of a rub) leftist nutbars and Islamists support members of their own communities who disobey official representatives of institutions. But the real problem is a lot bigger than just security guards and debate attendees’ compliance/non-compliance with their instructions. Along with British politicians (most of them now retired or dead) who deliberately set out with their immigration policies to change the ethnic/cultural composition of a great nation, the biggest problem is cultural, i.e. westerners in general — your neighbours, your friends, your family, people on the street, average folks — who obey political correctness and remain silent about Islamist incursions/abuses because they’re afraid of being labeled “racist”.
Widespread silence – particularly government and media silence, but also average citizens’ silence — is the problem. Mick Hartley, and Chris Moos, and Ophelia Benson — like Melanie Philips and Mark Steyn and Ezra Levant, etc., etc., etc. — are not remaining silent. If some guy who feels the same way you and I do about Islamist attempts to usurp the laws and rules of western civilization — to rule on our soil — gets into a shoving match with some security ***hole at some debate at some British university it’s just another more-or-less non-newsworthy “incident”, not really any different in *scope* than similar leftist displays of resistance at such events.
Your words are unkind, unwarranted, and, misdirected. First of all, Mick Hartley (like Ophelia Benson, who quoted Chris Moos) wasn’t an attendee at the event. Secondly, the “outrage” of Hartley, who, like other wonderful British bloggers writes with a combination of diligence and calm steeliness, is neither “faux” nor, as far as I can tell, any greater than yours or mine. Thirdly – and this speaks to, umm, the value of speaking out and bearing witness — there’s been an update: University College London has now officially banned any further events involving the Islamic Education and Research Academy.
If a few people disobeyed/argued with/wrestled with security guards at the debate, but no one wrote about the event to a wider audience in England and abroad, I doubt the same positive result would have occurred.
Though this story gets my dander up as a woman, I must say I LOVE watching the liberal secularist atheists come up against the misogynist supremacist Islamists. Popcorn time!!
And I’ll melt the butter, Ellie. It’s comedy gold, and it couldn’t happen to anyone more deserving of a nasty reality check.
