Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

Mountain climbers know that hitching everyone to the same rope is a mixed blessing. It can save individuals, but can also doom the whole lot.
America should really just abandon these fools. Russia can have at ’em. They have ZERO sense of self preservation at all. Bailing out Greece is the most retarded thing they could and continue to do. Cut ’em loose now before they take you down. Tell your bankers who bought their paper to eat it.
The decline if Europe is continuing.
Communists and anarchists (?)firebombing each other in Greece. Wish them success. Shades of Lenin and Makhno.

Some people made a LOT of money when the Euro came in, and some people, probably the same people, are going to make a LOT of money when it finally crashes.
The inevitable spin cycle of centrally planned socialist economies: boom, bust, reform, boom, bust… One wonders how many cycles it will take before the Europeans finally admit they were both wrong and STUPID.
In other news, St. Paul’s Cathedral in London was closed today due to “health and safety concerns” resulting from the Occupy Something That Isn’t Yours pukes camping out on the church grounds. The last time St. Paul’s was closed was 1940, for four days because an unexploded bomb was stuck in the road outside.
I have it on good authority that Greek’s woes are due to an “excess of individuality.”
I’ve become trapped within an Ayn Rand novel.
“There is NO Free Lunch”––writ large.
Go figure…
Europe no longer seems a competent society, and soon will lose the last features that made it a western society. The remaining western societies should avoid entangling themselves with Europe, and particularly the UN, so that the are not sucked down the drain as well.

Who the hell is John Gault? I keep asking but nobody seems to have the answer…it’s almost like it was a rhetorical question or something…
hee hee hee haa!!!
got to luv it, wasn’t it one of these socialist rectums that tried to bully Klaus?
Deutschmark uber alles.
Don’t the Germans understand that in supporting all the lazy useless socialist clowns of Europe they will become equally poor. Maggie Thatcher saw the writing on the wall and bailed with the Pound and was canned for it. So Europe has had 1 smart leader in the last 40 years.
The Euro is finished. The PIGS are trying to bring it down while the Germans and French are propping it up. Elections are coming that could change the whole dynamic.
Yes, of course…European “socialism” is bad. Well, except in those damn Nordic countries. On the other hand, things in Britain and the US are just peachy. Oh, wait…
Ibby
Please elucidate, spain how the nordic folk are leading the way…thanx.

Are you asking in writing syncrodox?
If so, try G-A-L-T.
This should be required reading.
All spling errors aside…it seems you both got the context…and not…
If you read the article, what I found amazing was the similarities although on a smaller scale between the EU and Canada. The 17 states of the EU are all subordinated to Brussels Le Grande Design. They have become colonies of Brussels much like our Canadian Provinces are colonies of Ottawa. Germany is the economic powerhouse paying the freight of the modern socialist wonderland of the EU. In Canada Alberta mainly and now Sask, and BC are paying the freight of the Eastern Socialist Nanny Provinces. They have huge structural debts now to maintain the central planners socialist dream. Canada has huge structural sovereign debt to maintain the welfare socialist dream. None of it sustainable. The socialist dreamers are fighting back for more entitlements and bigger government bailouts and handouts in the EU. Harper hasn’t cut anything yet and the socialist supporters in Canada are howling before he has even cut anything. CBC, don’t touch CBC, Bilingualism don’t touch that National Treasure, Health and Welfare for Immigrants who have not paid in 10 cents, don’t toufg that. Hundreds maybe thousands of NGO’s all snuggled in on a Government TEAT somewhere in Canada. Can’t touch that, so what is the solution? How can Government spending be curtailed and our TAXES cut to a manageable level. Keeping in mind the fact that TAXES in Canada now consume more of the average Canadian Family Budget each year than the necessities of life. Taxes are crushing families. They consume more than Food, Clothing and Housing for families each year. And the socialist parties, the NDP/LIBERAL/PC/BLOC/GREEN demand more TAXES and bigger government. What is the solution for the citizens of Canada? We will eventually face the GREEK CHOICE as well. We haven’t just realized it yet. Canada’s total GDP is around 1.3 Trillion, our Total Sovereign Debt is 4-5 Trillion. Our Darwinian Moment of Fame is approaching, do we step on the gas and accelerate into the wall or do we try to throttle back and regain some control over our lives by ending programs cutting spending and cutting back on TAXES so our families can endure the coming Global Depression. That is what our elite leaders should be holding an honest discussion with Canadians. The CPC should lay out all our debts for all of us to see, show all our hidden taxes and ask all Canadians what they want to cut….

Wait, there -is- a free lunch? Where?!
Sure isn’t in Ontario. Been to a hospital lately? Nasssty. And just wait until you see how they look when power costs 3X what it does now.
In Europe they’ve already been where we’re going. For ten years or more. Whole lot of people are going to get crushed when this thing comes down, I can only pray for justice that some of its staunchest pinko supporters get to starve in the wreckage.
Got your generator yet, Iberia? Woodstove?
To RFB, couldn’t have said it any better. I read “Atlas Shrugged” many years ago and have read it again several times since. My first reading left me with a sense of “it’ll never happen”. That was about 40 years ago. A 2nd and 3rd reading shows it has already started. I read a piece the other day regarding the “occupy” movement where the author suggested the capitalist take a year off, pay no taxes, create no jobs, support no entitlements. Sounds like Rand’s solution. I fear for our future, where entitlement driven liberal political messaging resonates with those unable to create but would rather just consume.
proud western canadian: Get a hold of Rand’s, ‘The New Intellectual’, a nice summary. I would suggest that what she writes about has been happening for decades in N. America and for centuries in Euroland.
Until the day comes that government is forced back to ruling by balanced budgets no meaningful change will occur. I highly doubt that will happen thru the public making that concious choice, things have deteriorated to far. Capitalism will eventualy reassert itself when the fast talkers can no longer rob Peter to pay Paul.
To my way of thinking as long as most people are taking more than they are giving then society is doomed. A simple bank account tells the tale!
Now is the time for Mr GALT.
Math always trumps BS.
Europe (particularly Southern Nations) and General Motors are now identical. Once prosperous, now reduced to welfare agencies that happen to produce a few things that can’t really sell without government assistance, essentially welfare agencies on welfare.
Europe’s future is cascading sovereign default and cascading bank failures, violent societal collapse, and eventual “rescue” by fascist revival (liberty is not in their vocabularies). Germany may get all of Europe after all.

You have posed a most pertinent question, IMO, RFB. Your comment is cohesive and lays the cards on the table. The Canadian confederation has grown past the colonial ‘short pants’ stage; Canada now wears ‘slacks’ in the East and ‘Lee Riders’ in the West. The East has had the cash register in the past and the slacks crowd are digging their manicured fingernails into the sides of that plastic sign of wealth: they like to buy at a discount and sell for profit -(CWB defense is a good example) exchangers at best, profiteers more likely.
People must like and respect each other to manage a successful marriage/business/nation/civilization. Canada, like the EU, has become a nation of fractions – feministas (male and female) destroying marriage, unions/left wing earth cultist/stupid bans/red tape/massive rules/PC/ destroying business, equalization/welfare/massive immigration/gument ‘entitlements’ destroying the nation and lack luster left wing (non)/(de)education is destroying our Civilization.
History is burned by Communists/Socialists – that ilk relies on individuals forgetting/rejecting their past and their pride in their heritage. Heritage is regional; throwing all into one pot and stirring creates a nasty gruel of bitter, poisonous content. Only human haters would engineer such a vile fate for people.
Ayn Rand was way ahead of North Americans because she lived in the Soviet Union and saw first hand what the Communists were. Taylor Caldwell also knew all about the human haters – she lived in America and she warned all of us back in the 50’s, 60s, and 70’s about the evil men/women in Europe focusing on the ruin of America. Her best known book is ‘Captains and Kings’ but she wrote many other equally informative historical novels.

John Chittick and Jema 54, exactly.
I am in the midst of translating a book about the life of my father’s cousin whose husband was shot in 1937. The page I am on right now is explaining the events in 1929 when she, aged fourteen, and her family along with the others in the village and neighbouring villages were forced to join a collective. It is heartbreaking to read this. She married a teacher in 1935 who was arrested in 1937 for refusing to teach atheism and shot. In 1990, as an old lady along with the one son she had had and his family immigrated to Germany. Her son wrote the book.
She could not forgive the system for what it had done, little realizing that the place she was immigrating to was adopting the same socialistic enslaved system by increments that she had left. She died in 1998 thinking her family was finally free.
