The Perfect Iranian Storm on the Horizon

Michael Totten;

Jonathan Spyer is not your typical Israeli journalist and political analyst. He has a PhD in International Relations, he fought in Lebanon during the summer war of 2006, then went *back* to Lebanon as a civilian on a second passport.
I can’t say I felt particularly brave venturing into Hezbollah’s territory along the Lebanese-Israeli border, but it takes guts for Israelis to go there. If Hezbollah caught him and figured out who he was, he would have been in serious trouble.
No one he met in Lebanon knew where he was from. Everyone thought he was British. And no one in Israel but his friends and colleagues knew he went back to Lebanon on his own. He decided, though, that he may as well “out” himself on my blog.

    I believe in the one Land solution. Israel period.

  2. What this shows is that in principle southern Lebanon is Iran.
    Hezb-allah has concealed (poorly) it’s stuff in residential areas for concealment and for propaganda purposes(human shields). Highly reliable reports indicate that scuds are also part of the mix…..big warheads with enough range to hit Tel Aviv.
    The thousands of katyushas etc when they start to launch will precipitate urban renewal of a different sort. Isreal will have little choice but to flatten it.

  3. “Isreal will have little choice but to flatten it.”
    Gee. Wouldn’t that be classified as a disproportionate response?

    “… a general backdrop of internal conflict within the regime. In late July, Mohammad Ali Jafari, commander of the Revolutionary Guard Corps, the regime’s Praetorian Guard, admitted publicly that many top officers were supporters of the opposition Green Movement. Shortly thereafter, according to official government announcements, some 250 officers suddenly resigned. In the past weeks, several journalists from the Guards’ FARS news agency have defected, some to France and others to the United States.”

  5. I hope Isreal doesn’t nuke them!
    The oilfields of Iran are a tremendous amount of wealth to lose. They need to be more conventional like “Shock & Awe”. That was some pretty amazing footage from Iraq when they did that. The Iraq war got a little boring afterwards though and we mostly stuck to watching “24” and old reruns of “Platoon” & “Hamburger Hill”.

    That was amazing footage on the news for a few nights but it got pretty boring after that. We just watched more “24” and old reruns of “Platoon” & “Hamburger Hill” for the rest of the season.
