The generals

Reports from the testimony of Rick Hillier and Michel Gauthier from the Canadian Press, Globe, Star, Sun, CTV, CBC and Inside Politics…
Kandahar: we didn’t know what we were getting into

Gen. Rick Hillier, the retired chief of defence staff, just moments ago reminded the House committee …
Norwich, we have a problem

I can’t say I am spectacularly surprised at the emerging scandal over private e-mails obtained from the servers of the University of East Anglia’s Climatic Research Unit,…
I’ve said it before – this week in boardrooms across the industry, media executives are meeting with media experts to hash out yet another strategy, and yet more innovations to address their falling fortunes, every last one of them invested in the unshakable belief that the internet is burying them because it’s faster .
As though the only difference between shit and sunshine is the speed at which they travel.
Related – “I’ve heard about the cutbacks at the NYT and I guess it’s gotten so bad that they no longer allow internet access to reporters. So my news tip is that apparently, there’s some kind of development regarding the scientists behind the global warming data, involving emails or something like that…”
Also, highly recommended.

Only 2.8 million links to Climategate in about a weeks time.
Yes, a tsunami is coming and it is called TRUTH.
Cheers

Where’d the last post go ?
And at the CBC, this seems to be going all wrong …
http://www.cbc.ca/news/yourinterview/2009/11/climate_change_munk_debates.html
Also: Colby Cosh is on Twitter. And I can’t believe I’m the only one who RT’d his link to that blog entry.
What’s interesting is that, no matter how they try, the Colvin Detainee Saga is simply gaining no traction with the public at all. I have met no one – no one – outside of government circles who gives a damn. And I live just outside Ottawa.
If I were out to sell copy, I’d dump that story yesterday and move right on to Climategate now.
Hilarious!
Kate, see the latest post at Anthony Watts’ site:
http://wattsupwiththat.com/2009/11/25/uh-oh-raw-data-in-new-zealand-tells-a-different-story-than-the-official-one/#more-13215
Actually, TJ, I saw that one already. I’m just a little tired and should probably beg off for the evening to refresh the jets. Keeping up with this stuff is a 12 hour a day job. Plus, I have a job.
There’s also some wisdom in parceling this stuff out at rate people can read and absorb.
I can’t imagine how Steve McIntyre is dealing with this.
Excellent link, TJ.
So the claim that other “independent” climate science groups also show the climate is warming is demonstrably false.
Yes, they do show warming, but yes, they also have diddled the raw data just like East Anglia’s CRU has done.
Kate, understand perfectly, and I didn’t mean to swamp you with more links.
You have done a *fantastic* job of covering this important topic. This has been one of the most interesting weeks at SDA that I can recall in many years, and that’s saying something given that every week your site is a great read.
We all owe you a debt of gratitude.
Up freedom!
Well I just left a comment about Ricky Dick Hillier and his buds not being prepared for the mission in Afghanistan.
If the man was a soldier and not one of Cretin’s liberal fart catchers he might have seen what he was getting into. The soviets spent 20 years in that dump – a few fwench peace keepers and endless tea parties with Adrienne Clarkson might not cut it, General.
That moron should have been put out to pasture 20 years ago.

So there. And now how to make sense of it all?
Did the Prime Minister mean “proof” or “evidence?” If he meant “evidence,” what is the difference between “credible evidence” and proof? What act was it “credible evidence” of? Was this “credible evidence” of whatever ultimately deemed to not constitute proof? If so, wouldn’t that make it “uncredible evidence?” Same too for the phrase “credible allegation?” What, precisely, is a “credible allegation” if it is not substantiated and proven?
——————————————————————————————
I don’t know why this is so confusing. Jean Chretien should be asked to help sort it out.

Not only is Colby’s “Climategate” blog crushing both “the generals” and “Kandahar”, but even his Nathalie Blanchard blog has received more comments.
I am a climatologist. Trust me.
We don’t have journalism in this country.
If we did, they would allow Fox Canada to be a reality.
The Afghan-Colvin ‘scandal’ has the potential (in the eyes of the lefty media) to bring down the Conservative government.
The AGW fraud does not, and would probably strengthen the Conservative government and give them more reasons to tell the environutcakes to go live in the forest.
Have y’all noticed the only media personalities commenting on the CRU scandal are center-right.
What we’re seeing is how entrenched is left-leaning bias in the newsrooms of the nation.
jcp – Hmmmmm…. I don’t seem to see my question to Dr. Bazooki listed on the CBC site. Jeez, I wonder why?
Dang. Anchoress really hit the nail on the head.
CFRA sheds.

It was not the Honorable General’s fault. During the ” decade of darkness ” the fearless leader himself, was a one man army, capable of fending off all enemies, both domestic and foreign, by himself. There was no need for a Canadian military; or so thought the fearless leader.

Tell me- how does Ottawa prevent a tribal culture from doing the things they do?
I believe the popular press will be more than happy to see Climate-gate go away. I’d like to see them go away.
Kate,
when you refresh, do try to post about the NZ story.
The warmer meme is that this is isolated. Aside from the fact that this is coming from the epicenter of AGW theory, the NZ story shows just how widepread this is.
And thanks for the great work on this. You’re doing an awesome job!
Maclean’s just hired Cosh and it paid off for them already.
Kate, great job on this climate-gate, or as Kathy says, “climate-QUIDDIC, damnit!”
The news organizations continue to reveal the extent to which they have hired themselves out to liberal politics. They are on the payroll. They -can’t- cover this truthfully, because the truth of it is they’ve been lying about climate change since the 1970’s.
Their only future is bankruptcy, because they just don’t have the guts (or the sense) to pull their noses out of the Liberal/Democrat/Labour feedbag and WORK for a living.
Faster. Please.
Had to turn off CBC Radio this morning, as I was going to VOMIT! They were interviewing both David Suzuki and Al Gore. In the immortal words of a friend from design school, CBC has their heads so far up Suzuki’s ass, they have a permanent tan to the back of their ears! I have called my local station and e-mailed them, and still nothing on Climate Quiddick (good name by the way)
“every last one of them invested in the unshakable belief that the internet is burying them because it’s faster .”
In fairness, I haven’t heard any media executives say they believe the Internet is burying them because it’s faster. For one thing, their publications are all online, and have been for a long time — they ARE the Internet, as much as anyone else is.
What I have heard them say, over and over, is that the Internet has destroyed the advertising revenue model. Which, again in fairness, seems to be true. It’s not like anyone else is making tons of ad money online (except for the occasional Google, doing massive volumes of penny fractions), so I don’t see why newspapers and magazines would be either.
They should absolutely be covering this story, though. That’s a no-brainer.

Anybody else see Bobo Fife lose his erection on CTV
National News tonight after the Hillier testimony?
*
Those Macleans.ca blogs as of midnight here in Ottawa:
“the generals” – six comments.
“Kandahar” – 14 comments.
“Norwich, we have a problem” – 209 comments.
That Bobo Fife visual is gonna make it hard to sleep tonight.
But if I think about Afghanistan it should make me nod off quick.
Actually, thinking about Afghanistan, it seems to me that people forget that we are there because we have to honour our NATO commitments. It’s the price of our protection.
Something that the Liberals were rather lax with.
And that they dithered until the worst of assignments were left.
Still, all a big couldn’t give a damn to me. If not Afghanistan then some other proxy war where the soldiers are given substandard equipment and told to make do.
And climate-gate won’t go away even if it needs a better name.
There’s just too much material there to pore over.
And too many people knocking on the dead tree press’ door wondering where their coverage is.
A friend sent me this.
LIBERAL or CONSERVATIVE ?
If a conservative doesn’t like guns, he doesn’t buy one.
If a liberal doesn’t like guns, he wants all guns outlawed.
If a conservative is a vegetarian, he doesn’t eat meat.
If a liberal is a vegetarian, he wants all meat products banned for
everyone.
If a conservative sees a foreign threat, he thinks about how to defeat
his enemy.
A liberal wonders how to surrender gracefully and still look good.
If a conservative is homosexual, he quietly leads his life.
If a liberal is homosexual, he demands legislated respect.
If a black man or Hispanic are conservative, they see themselves as
independently successful.
Their liberal counterparts see themselves as victims in need of
government protection.
If a conservative is down-and-out, he thinks about how to better his
situation.
A liberal wonders who is going to take care of him.
If a conservative doesn’t like a talk show host, he switches channels.
Liberals demand that those they don’t like be shut down.
If a conservative is a nonbeliever, he doesn’t go to church.
A liberal nonbeliever wants any mention of God and religion silenced.
If a conservative slips and falls in a store, he gets up, laughs and
is embarrassed.
If a liberal slips and falls, he grabs his neck, moans like he’s in
labor and then sues.
He who goes unarmed
in paradise.
Had better be sure that
that is where he is.

I didn’t think Fife was capable of one: little twit.

Well I guess that means that everyone should rush out and get a Twitter account, right Kathy?
“If not Afghanistan then some other proxy war where the soldiers are given substandard equipment and told to make do.”
Psst… Whatever else we might say about the Afghanistan mission, the fact is that our troops are about the best equipped and trained in ISAF these days.
Now, if we just had more of ’em.

Look how long this Solar minimum has been going on. This site is invaiable it documents the temps when the sun heats up and when it cools all the way back to the 1800’s. It’s funny the hotter the sun the hotter the earth. I agree we can do things to to clean up our part to help our earth, but not by lies and tax and big brother. The lines are the same when Carter was president on Solar panels, they where the biggest way to reduce carbondioxide emissions. It the same farce the liberals have shoved down our throats since China Sydrome came out. If we had 50 nuke power plants our out put of electricity would double and the price would be cut in half and polution would drop . What in France a small country has how many Nuke power plants? We have in America a half dozen or less . Solar panels are ok unless you have no sun shine, but here the cost goes up the more Solar panels the more the utilities charge for electricity because they companies are producing less and losing money. This UN climate treaty BS is to create a one world order, thats why we have this idiot in the USA Obama a puppet of the one worlders, soon to be removed and sent back to Kenya, who will sign on to give the world a new giganitic TAX on Carbone Dioxide creating more morons like Gore to become billioniars on the backs of crappy BS phony Gobal warming! Regime change is coming around the globe and the UN must be dismantled for good and all involved from the scandal must be prosecuted and jailed for 20 years and all their money goes back to the country the represented! In America if Obozo signs this treaty he will be impeached and every liberal democrat will be removed in the next Election. Phony science BIG MONEY FOR LIBERALS.
