Amen to that, Kate. I’ve been saying the same thing all day at Blue Like You.
When the global warming/kyoto thing really got going in the late nineties, most people would just brush off the topic – just some wingnuts talking about weather.
When I first became aware of the scam in about 2001, there was hardly a mention in the blogs about the scam side of the Kult (the media, of course, was full square behind the fearmongering)
When I first came to reading sda, about late 2004, there were a few mentions but most were not really aware of the consequences ahead.
Kate and some commenters where revealling how a man from Oak Lake Manitoba was scheming to install One World Government.
Today, GW is a major topic on most blogs.
Even just three years ago, most commenters to an article (media and blogs) believed in AGW.
Today, virtually all commenters on blogs know the “science” of GW is just another religion, cult.
But what is most striking is the shift in commenter attitude at major media. It is laughable how most commenters call out the MSM on it’s support of the hoax.
And what is even more striking is how many at sites such as DeSmog and Monbiot are speaking out against the host.
And yet far too many Canadian politicians still back the economy killing fraud. (At least publicly)
Why ?
I’d say that’s low balling the damage considerably. Really, this is the most relevant excerpt from the story:
“…The TD Bank financed Calgary-based Pembina Institute and Vancouver’s David Suzuki Foundation to produce the comprehensive report…”
Foxes, henhouses, … etc. ‘Nuff said.
when you are robbing Paul to pay Pierre , you can always depend on the support of Pierre.
FREE THE WEST
How can they contend that “the Canadian economy overall” will keep growing if every province, save Ontario, shows negative growth, even in their best scenario? Do these freakin’ idiots even read their own reports?
Agreed, bring it on.
I recall a transfer of wealth of this scale from western Canada to the east being imposed from about 1980 to 1986. This cost the province of Alberta about $80 Billion dollars (not inflation adjusted.), a loss was also incurred in Saskatchewan. This theft from Alberta has not been paid, neither in monetary nor in “good will”.
I cannot imagine a conservative government thinking they can get away with this type of theft again, without the very real threat of a western separation movement taking hold.
With that in mind, I don’t believe that Ontario and the Atlantic provinces could maintain the flow of federally directed transfer payments to Quebec, ($8 Billion per annum) someone might want to mention this to them, before they go off on their rant of how we don’t care for the environment. The environment isn’t the point of this bullshit, the transfer of wealth from one region to another is everything to these socialists.
It is everything I hold in contempt.
What’s with the TD Bank? They have been very political lately and that can’t be good for business, can it? Every time they trot out Don Drummond, they lose business. You’d think they would notice.
We should just look south of our border for the answer to this climate hoax sprouting fangs – very very scary Tsars are flexing Totalitarian muscle down there and Canada is the lily pad floating on top of that shallow swamp. We are living in dangerous times…I have read way too much history to even question how fragile our Liberty and freedom are at this time. I Thank God for the one Blessing Canada has – Stephen Harper is our Prime Minister – if the Troika of Traitors or some Liberano were running the show, things in Canada would be much, much worse…
Any sane person knows that this temperature/climate, hope ee/changieee thingie is a hoax to enable the Marxists to make all free citizens of the world slaves.
Listen to Genn Beck – he knows all about unka Mo and his red boys/girlies.
Not so sure, Usual Suspect… Perhaps TD is sponsoring these reports in order to show the lunacy of it all. The article does say that “the bank’s interest was to shed light on an area where there has been little informed debate: the likely cost of imposing regulations.”
The more these enviro-idiots get into the dirty details, the quicker their argument falls apart. I’m all for them speaking up.
It will be a proud day when our government wins the “dinosaur award” from the greens at Copenhagen. Or it will be a happy day when Sask and Alberta have nuclear, oil and coal(proven energy) while “old” Canada depends unsightly, bird killing windmills and solar (have you forgotten how much sunlight we get in our Canadian winters when demand is highest).
TD should be pilloried for getting involved with the PI and the DSF. The G&M should as well for calling the report “landmark”.
All of this is much ado about nothing. Cap and trade in the US is dead and Copenhagen is as well. All we will be hearing from here on is lip-service from politicians but no legislation.
Ahh yes, separation, the coward’s way out.
Jim,
Are you suggesting armed revolt?
Do you plan on calling in the Montana National Guard?
guess who will finace all those carbon credit’s the bank’s !
The only problem is, after you draw that line, you’ll still be stuck with Vancouver.
Read carefully. The table does not depict overall growth in GDP, but rather, the difference in GDP between execution and non-execution of GHG emission reduction goals. So a negative doesn’t necessarily mean a decrease in GDP.
However, given the footprints of Dr. Drosophila & Co. on this report, the projected losses are probably, er, conservative.
Better to draw a line in the (oil) sand than on the map. You might be able to save the entire country from the warmmongers.
Time to never ever do any business with the TD Bank.
They are just salivating over the prospect of transaction fees trading carbon credits.
Do business with Dr. Fruit Fly and you are on my boycott list.
Hmm…
The size and scale of such a massive restructuring carries the seeds of its own destruction within it.
It’s one thing to “sound” green but I seriously doubt any political party in this country has the ability to pull the whole thing off.
Because no political party could ever hope to stay in office long enough to see it through.
For those of you criticizing TD for joining forces with the two loony outfits – think for a second. If the Fraser Institute or a similar thinktank would have sponsored the report, it would be quickly ignored by most people as propaganda. The Pembinas and Suzukis of the world now have to defend their stupid plans. Read the National Post account – these groups are now on the defensive as are the politicians. Anybody who wants a vote west of Brandon better pay close attention.
From the G&M editorial:
There may still be some low-hanging fruit, in energy efficiency and clean technology, to help Canada reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Canadians may be ready, if reluctantly, to feel some pain in the move to a lower carbon future. But there is no silver bullet; voters rejected the Green Shift in the last federal election, and the Pembina Institute/David Suzuki Foundation analysis is unsaleable and dangerous.
With the Copenhagen climate-change conference less than six weeks away, we stand at a critical juncture. There are two paths.
The federal government must present a policy package that will show, and not just tell, how Canada will meet its stated and international obligations to mitigate the effects of climate change.
Or the target may be unreachable without unacceptable damage to Canada’s economy and national unity. In which case, it is time for new targets, and new policies.
“Anybody who wants a vote west of Brandon better pay close attention.”
And east of it too!
No one is going to do well by this scheme.
The NEP not only cost the idiot Liberals the West, it harmed all Canadians.
Pay attention as well to the involvement of Jaccard.
This is the genius who designed BC’s carbon tax, an was also a political appointee of the B.C. Utilities Commission in the infamous BC NDP government of the 90’s.
This guy, somehow is revered as an economic forecaster…..I don’t get it! He’s poison, a socialist that keeps getting economic work.
If this report isn’t self serving, I don’t know what is. Its like these reports, sponsored by PETA, that conclude meat is bad for you, surprise, surprise.
anything written/sponsored/paid by Suzuki is pure propaganda of the looney moonbat left. The danger is too many people see his name, and think ‘Ah, that’s that soft spoke guy from CBC, he’s such a nice young man’, and swallow the lickspittle he trots out.
Notice how shrill he is becoming lately, as he is also mouthing the ‘tipping point’ and the need to hurry hurry to get a deal done? He must know as well the jig is almost up, as they keep trotting out the numbers up to 1998….11 years ago. That data set is starting to look a bit weak, eh wot, Fruitfly?
“Because no political party could ever hope to stay in office long enough to see it through.”
But isn’t that the goal of these wannabe controllers? Nobody in 2015 will remember (thanks to our wonderfully forgetful MSM) failed predictions, let alone what happens in 2050.
Scam, scam, scam.
Predicting (and profiting from the fear generated) the pending apocalypse always sells books and scares people.
The lefties, devoid of any solutions, default to trying to scare people. Next up is the worldwide “shortage” of water, even though desalination plants can solve this “crisis”.
Look for the lefties to protest desalination plants as being “harmful to the environment” in some way. They’re idiots, but while we try to help those who need, they try to stifle us.
Informed criticism is one thing, crying “foul” and “unfair” and NIMBY/the-world-will-end is quite another.
My best guess ( and it’s not based on any particular knowledge of the subject) is that the CPC will drag it’s heels and dither until the tide has turned and this farce of AGW becomes passe.
Maybe OT but here’s a website I would recommend to anyone interested in the Canadian energy industry and one man’s plans on how to make Canada an energy superpower. Heard him speak a week ago and was mightily impressed. http://www.clembowman.info/

All the usual suspects pop up. We already know who they are/represent.

That wouldn’t happen to be the same TD Bank run by CEO Edmund Clarke would it? After all, good ole Ed was the top civil servant who implimented the National Energy Program for Trudeau.

I guess that means you wouldn’t miss us.
Doesn’t it depend how we address the ‘problem’? We can send money all over or we can spend it to alleviate the perceived problems. Not many agree with carbon sequestration but if we go that way the jobs and money spent will stay where it is produced. Even though it may cost as much we would develop technology and create jobs here. That would benefit the Western economy rather than just send money away willy-nilly. Ralph Klein took steps to ensure there would never be another NEP. Brad Wall took steps to ensure we didn’t ship jobs and money away. It can be done.
I thought Doc Fruit Fly’s expertise was in genetics, so how does he become an “expert” in studies of climate dynamics? Now he attaches his name to economic forecasting models. Is there nothing the Doc can’t do? This really adds a lot to the credibility of Drummond and the TD bank.
Apparently Doc Suzuki – in a gesture to demonstrate his solidarity and sincerity with the great cause – has agreed to have Salt Spring Island completely covered by wind turbines and solar panels, including his own residence.

Ron in Kelowna … you asked why politicians aren’t twigging to stupidity of this Global Warming pandemic? Here is why.
None of this has anything to do with saving us or our planet, it’s about control and corruption and extortion … you know … the things that politicians are so good at.
Nothing suggested can possibly affect our climate. That is the job of the Sun, the ocean currents and the cloud formations. We are here for the ride. We are not at the wheel. Control freaks who are politicians cannot grok this concept so they do what they can to make everything worse.
Should read ADAPTATION DEBT .
I guess this GW extortion thing is nothing new.
Many Politicians and some unscrupulous business people are always looking for a way to dramatically increase their revenue/taxes through legislation.
Think Home Depot and the switch from incandescent to (poisonous) mercury.
Think GE and windmills.
Think metric bolts and Stelco.
Think biofuels and corn growers.
Think soft on crime and the court system.
A blast from the past, Dec. 26, 1998
“Consolidating Ms. Stewart’s [former Lib enviro minister] statements, we reach some horrific conclusions. Whether global warming actually exists is irrelevant. It is, in the hands of government and environmental activists, a convenient front for the introduction of programs and economic policies that Canadians – and most citizens of the world – would not otherwise accept.
Ms. Stewart, perhaps unintentionally, has identified the two key foundations of the global warming movement. One is based in environmentalism, which essentially claims that human beings are a problem in nature. The other foundation is the old business of economic redistribution. Both these movements are linked in the international climate change treaty Canada signed in Kyoto. Environment Canada has already given up trying to examine the science. It never really tried. Instead, it spends hundreds of millions of dollars churning out propaganda on the hypothetical effects of global warming. Its latest reports include hundreds of studies warning of everything from spreading insect-borne disease to increasing forest fires.” http://www.sepp.org/Archive/reality/realagenda.html
Think a good ‘End Of The World’ story and the media.
Kind of interesting, eh? Earlier this week, we had that raucous near-riot in Parliament, a fine display of the sober civility of the AGW proponents for all our government MPs to see, up close and personal.
Now this document emerges, from an unimpeachably left-wing source, that shows the horrendous costs we would incur if we adopted the Kyoto lunacy.
Two very useful pillars to buttress abstention by Canada at the upcoming Copenhagen bun-toss.
I believe Dr.Mengele Suzuki lives just off Kitsilano and has his other residence on Quadra where he has a pulpit installed.
Under this scheme Ontario and Quebec will do better? By 2012 Ontario will have a twenty five billion dollar debt and rising and Quebec wont have any transfer payments because the west will be broke and thats doing better? Even a higher GST will take most of its money from Ontario and Quebec. The maritimes will just float away, never to be heard from again.Newfoundland and Labrador will join Greenland and cut off power to Quebec which they should do anyway.
“A study by TD Bank, eh?
That wouldn’t happen to be the same TD Bank run by CEO Edmund Clarke would it? After all, good ole Ed was the top civil servant who implemented the National Energy Program for Trudeau.”
“What’s with the TD Bank? They have been very political lately and that can’t be good for business, can it? Every time they trot out Don Drummond, they lose business. You’d think they would notice.” “Don Drummond, Senior Vice President and Chief Economist, TD Bank Financial Group”
Bingo. This shouldn’t be good for TD’s business.
“Two very useful pillars to buttress abstention by Canada at the upcoming Copenhagen bun-toss.”
Au contraire. We should go, offer vaguely-worded assertions of support, and agree that “something must be done”.
Then we should just come back and carry on as normal – which is what other countries eventually end up doing when it all gets too difficult for them.
This will have the added bonus effect of further infuriating Jeh Custer.
And that’s always worthwhile!
On the one hand, it may seem pretty decent of TD Bank to fund a study to point out the cost of all this GHG lunacy. On the other, how disingenuous do they have to be, thinking they will get any truth on this matter from Suckzooki and the Pemby Institute? Have the tall foreheads at TD thought about how this could affect their own credibility?
Last night on local CBC radio (Winnipeg) the airheads were jollying about how this looks to be a good thing for Manitoba. Have they not seen the last 20 years in which the wackjobs have done everything they can to delay or stop hydro projects? Do they really believe that something which hurts Alberta and Saskatchewan energy industry can be good for Manitoba?
