Blog Notes

With the snow blowing in here today at 50kph, it seems like a good time to let you know I’ll be hitting the road for Arizona on Sunday morning for a little sun and with a bit of luck, a few dog show ribbons.
As computer access is likely to be nonexistent, the usual guest blogging troops have been called in to keep things rolling along.
Also, the recent upgrade now gives me the ability to schedule posts for later publication, so keep that in mind when they appear – they were written before I left home!
I’ll ask the “regulars” to do their part to help out. Please avoid taking troll bait, and try to stay on topic. Better yet, try branching out to read some of our other good Canadian bloggers. There will be frequent Reader Tips posts for you to help direct others to what you find.
Back to regular programming. I’ve a lot on my plate in the next couple of days, so if I don’t get to your urgent tips, it’s because up up to my armpits in artwork and show trims.

  1. Have fun Kate!
Hope you need the sunscreen.., and watch those nether regions don’t get to burned! 😉
One of these winters I’ll go somewhere hot for a vacation. In the meantime the warmest place I’ll get to this winter is over your direction to Little Manitou – one of Sask’s best kept secrets.

  2. best of luck with your doggies Kate, and drive safe! Just starting to snow here in SE Man.,so I’ll be looking forward to keeping warm with a “three-dog nite”…one of my boys warming my feet now.Lots to be said for the wonderful company my 3 “boys”provide. They always agree with my opinions!

  3. RE: The French have developed this awesome weapon…
Funny it wasn’t designed to be fired while running in the opposite direction…

  4. last year ( liberal tax yet) i got $300 refund.
this year i just finished tax return i got $0.00 refund.
    where are those con advantages?
where is the double taxing on gas? still on!
plenty of talk and noo action! sheep in wolf’s clothing?…..what a joke!!
it’s good i did not pay them as i promise ….. the same shit only now con!!!

  5. George. you have to check the tax you paid , not the refund. If you got back 0.00 it means someone did a good job of calculating the source. If you got 300 back last year , it means the snivel service lived off your largess for a whole year .
how is your lotto 649 retirement plan coming anyhoo.?

  6. cal2
with 3 kids over 15 i have rrsp of 20.

  7. That weapon seems to be designed to slow up their enemies as the frenchmen run away . Just like laying out mine for your enemy to step on.

  8. Can we invent new words here? I was thinking crossing bureaucracy with aristocracy; bureaucrosticy. What do you guys think?

  9. Check out Cherniak’s latest post guys..he’s crying about a Liberal “leaking” to Stephen Taylor, and begging the “leakee” to not talk to a Con. to come to him or Lib.blogger if they have to leak!TOO funny…does this smell of a GARTH????

  10. Kate: As you will personally be experiencing climate change and climate warming, please let us know if it is a dangerous as DS and algore warn us about. Safe trip and good luck with the dog shows.

  11. George: Last July 1, the amt of income tax deducted changed to a lower rate, so by not taking excess off your take home pay, you will not have overpaid, therefore no refund. And the tax rate has only been increased to 15.25% from 15% offset by the same amount for non refundable tax credits. Funny, the msm did not stress this increase in tax payable last year, when trying to make martins supposed tax break a big deal.
Most people do not pay any attention to their pay stubs to see where their money went.

  12. george – I’m not an accountant, but your financial situation is truly of your own making.
Did you realize you can write off “CAPITAL” expenses?

Having met a few Van Doos over the years, I would never call any of them chicken.
However, I’ve never seen a Van Doo wearing a French tricolour flag patch on his uniform, either. Those are French soldiers, not Canadian.

  14. Nope,, Sorry Bruce that is the good old red and white flag and that is cadpat they are wearing, those soldiers are r22r, the excellent regiment that goes by the name van doos, but,, just to make you feel better ,that is a eryx missile they are firing , which is made by France, so, I guess they are still kinda of right, the Forces bought them in 98-99 time frame, this video floated around the bases about a month ago, just a dud, it happens sometimes with all munitions, whats cool, when it happens, no real training required for your immediate action drill,,,RUnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn

  15. OK Kingston lad, I’ll bow to your greater expertise…the kit just didn’t look like CADPAT to me.
And you’re right it IS an ERYX they were (attempting) to fire. The ERYX reportedly uses a “soft launch” technique, and I guess the failure was in the rocket engine to ignite after it was propelled from the launcher…with an effective range of 50 to 600 meters, I’m guessing that it has some sort of failsafe mechanism that results in it being “armed” a safe (for the launchers) out.
And by the way, no slam meant on those launching the weapon…I just thought the video was very funny and the connection with the French history of surrender was a natural fit.

  16. Bruce, Just for clarification sake, this is the other Kingston blogger, Is still a serving member of the CF and has fired the Eryx, its a blast. I used to post here at Ken but there was to many of us so I switched to Kingston to avoid confusion, darn, didn’t work to well at all

  17. I guess Suzuki was wrong all along and Canada’s own Dr Patrick Moore was CORRECT. greenspirit.com
Uganda will be applying a weak solution of DDT indoors to help prevent malaria. Tradgic that millions of third world children died a horrible death because of the 1960s alarmist book, ‘Silent Spring’.
Way to go enviro-nuts. Your alarminism suceeded in …. in .. selling papers. As in Global Warming fear-mongering.

  18. Kingston:
“has fired the Eryx, its a blast.”
I really miss the toys too, now that I’ve left…every once in a while we’d change the RCMP MP5s (which had the auto setting immobilized) to full auto…a great weapon, very inefficient (for police purposes) in the full auto mode, but great fun nonetheless, in a non-operational setting…

  19. Seems that Maurice Strong’s pal, Tongsun Park, was involved in another scandal a long time ago. (He was just sentenced to 5 years in the slammer for involement in Saddam’s oil-for-food- scandal.) see below.
“Korea-Gate”, the rice scandal of the 1970s. Some US Politicians also got their fingers wrapped. The name, Tongsun Park, always rang a bell with me. A couple of weeks ago I re-read the 1980s book ‘Merchants of Grain” by Dan Morgan (Penquin Books). A whole chapter on Park. And you think Mo and the boys will cahnge their ways ??? Even when caught or proven wrong ???
“.. Park’s role in the scheme marked an extraordinary comeback — and another amazing fall — for a man who was indicted in the 1970s “Koreagate” influence-peddling scandal that roiled Washington. He had funneled hundreds of thousands in cash from the South Korean government to influential members of Congress. After the case broke, Park fled to South Korea. But after bribery charges against him were dropped, he agreed to return to the United States and testify before Congress about his activities…”

  20. David S gave a scathing lecture to elementary students and their parents in Calgary last night, and got a warm applause. He got 835.00 for his foundation from the collection the kids raised. He blasted PMSH and Albertans in general. How dare he scare a group of kids like that with threats. I think he is losing what credibility he had, (if any).
Read the story in the Calgary Sun.
He should be ashamed to take money from kids, especially as it probably come from their parent’s who work in greedy Alberta.
