About that coal transition as a model for oil and gas

Federal Minister of Natural Resources Jonathan Wilkinson was in Regina on Wednesday evening to speak about the “just transition.” I’ll have full coverage posted Friday morning, including video of his entire speech. Very interesting and significant if you’re in the energy business, be it oil, gas, or coal.

This story is from the extremely brief scrum following his comments, where he only had time to take two questions. I asked about how the coal transition is supposed to be the model for oil and gas, but everyone I speak to in Estevan, from power workers and coal miners to elected officials think its a failure and are totally unsatisfied with it. This is his response. Note, it is not in the video that will be posted tomorrow.

As a bonus, I am on my way to Kipling right now for the same minister’s speech at a major wind project. If you post a question in the comments before 10:25 Sask time, I might be able to ask it of him.
