Federal Minister of Natural Resources Jonathan Wilkinson was in Regina on Wednesday evening to speak about the “just transition.” I’ll have full coverage posted Friday morning, including video of his entire speech. Very interesting and significant if you’re in the energy business, be it oil, gas, or coal.
This story is from the extremely brief scrum following his comments, where he only had time to take two questions. I asked about how the coal transition is supposed to be the model for oil and gas, but everyone I speak to in Estevan, from power workers and coal miners to elected officials think its a failure and are totally unsatisfied with it. This is his response. Note, it is not in the video that will be posted tomorrow.
As a bonus, I am on my way to Kipling right now for the same minister’s speech at a major wind project. If you post a question in the comments before 10:25 Sask time, I might be able to ask it of him.

How about “have you done any honest analysis about the number of windmills and solar panels, as well as battery storage capacity that it will take to simply maintain the status quo of current energy consumption?” If so please provide details.
Also “have CO2 levels ever been higher than the current 430 ppm, and if so how hight have they been?”
He should have answers to those.
And if you are not kicked out by then – ask how the government despite controlling multiple levers on monetary policy cannot manage to hold inflation at 2% yet, only controlling a single variable out of a huge number of variables, we are supposed to believe they can hold earths temp to a 2 degree increase?
These people are not only mendacious, they are malignant, malicious and malevolent. There obviously can be no “Just Transition” from employed to unemployed; and they know damn well there will be no green jobs. They are deliberately wrecking Canada’s economy and Canadians’ lives.
Just transition, into what? Solar has been a failure, wind energy another failure and keep in mind we the slaves paid for all that failed energy. I love how they scream follow the science, yea how’s that working out liberal whack adoodles?
Costly…

Nice non-answer to the pointed question.
The real answer, if you translate out the bafflegab, was “Yes, we based the oil and gas transition on a model which we knew was broken, because this is all BS from start to finish, you idiot. Yes, we’re doing it no matter what you say. No, we don’t care what happens to you uncouth deplorables so long as it is bad. Freeze in the dark, b1chez. Any other stupid questions?”
And Olivia Chowchow just became the mayor of Toronto, Brian. Time to think about putting in some off-grid backup solutions for the homestead? And a -big- wood pile.
His answer explains why he’s big shot in Turdeau’s cabinet: talks a lot but doesn’t actually answer the question. I guess they learn this kind of BS in their Liberal retreats where Justin tutors them in this art.
Relax boys. Wind power is coming on line rapidly. We’ll be alright…
Drove the cowboy highway (41) in eastern Alberta yesterday.
The landscape north of Medicine Hat is contaminated on both sides all the way almost to Consort. 100’s of the bird choppers in various stages of completion. I headed west on 12 and ran into a massive wind operation between Halkirk and Castor.
Not sure why Alberta is the Canadian leader in this technology?
Because, Mr. Bond (Alberta), we want you to die! Southern Alberta is windier than other areas but not enough to make wind viable for any grid.
The minister needs to show on paper a plan to replace every MW of energy currently produced from fossil fuels in existing grids, heating / cooling, and transportation, including growth to allow for government human import quotas by 2050. If such a plan contains more than 5% wind and solar, it is unacceptably flawed.
The illiterate are being governed by the innumerate.
Because hooked-up Liberals are involved with these wind companies during the building phase, when the money is flowing freely. Then they cash that big fat paycheck and leave their positions during the hooking-up-to-the-grid phase, when all the trouble starts. They’re long gone by the time the companies are involved in warranty repairs and grid maintenance nightmares.
Best part, it doesn’t matter if the wind farms ever actually work. The Important People made their money already and they are out. When the whole thing turns to rust and starts falling down in 20 years (or maybe 10 years if Ontario is any example), it will be the FARMERS who are stuck with the scrappage costs. Because the company will be long bankrupt, but the f-ing windmill will still be sitting in that guy’s field.
That’s why.
None of this is meant seriously. It is all an arrangement to fleece private enterprise and private citizens. All of it.
Take the fella to Windthorst. They will give him a good SK kick in the nards.
I still want to know how the hell these idiots think they will build wind turbines and solar panels without fossil fuels. They really are very stupid and foolish, all those who believe the insanity have to go.
“I still want to know how the hell these idiots think they will build wind turbines and solar panels without fossil fuels.”
Dude. They don’t think that. They are not stupid, nor are they foolish. They are -lying-.
They’re stealing your money. Right out of your pocket, right in front of your face, AND giving you the finger. You watch that clip of the Minister of Natural Resources answering that question, and you tell me if he’s giving Brian the finger or not. I say he is. He’s smug, condescending, and he does not give a single F that we all know his answer is an obvious lie.
He knows that we know he’s lying, he’s still doing it anyway, he’s getting rich doing it, and nothing is EVER going to happen to him. Nothing.
I hope that clears it up for you.
No, it only shows the increasing level of stupid we are dealing with.
It’s a cruel joke that Alberta buys power from Montana when the wind doesn’t blow enough or the sun doesn’t shine enough. Montana’s power is coal sourced. Now Saskatchewan’s voluntarily shutting down its own cheap reliable coal power capacity. For what useful end? So they’ll have to spend more to buy coal power from Montana just like Alberta does? Nonsensical madness.
