Democratic officials are second-guessing the party’s obsession with attacking the Koch brothers, saying it bears some of the blame for last year’s devastating election losses as the focus on the conservative billionaires diluted a party message already struggling for clarity.
Doubts about the relentless attacks on the Koch brothers surfaced as the Democratic National Committee held its annual meeting Thursday in Washington, where state party officials from across the country mulled what went wrong in 2014.

I have no doubt that Obama’s more left-wing in his heart than he is in his speeches and public priorities. But my basic point is that Obama doesn’t realize that his electoral success was a function of the media age we are in. He fit the part. He said the right words. He was an anti-George W. Bush when lots of people desperately wanted an anti-George W. Bush. He was black, cool, and eggheady in just the right way. Voting for Obama made lots of people feel good about themselves — which is a terrible reason to vote for anybody. Media elites and average Americans alike were seduced because they wanted to be seduced.
They — starting with Obama himself — believed the hype. And he still does.
He’s like modern-day Johnny Bravo lip-synching an auto-tuned song about “keeping it real” and he thinks he’s actually keeping it real. He goes around talking about how much he hates talking points and sound-bites, how much he loathes cynicism and ideology. And yet, he does all this in talking points and sound-bites packed like verbal clown cars with ideology and cynicism.

“I feel like roadkill”
Cari Parker signed up back in early 2013 to make a difference, to help a grass-roots political group named Battleground Texas change the Lone Star State from red to purple, and make it a place where Democrats could compete in statewide elections once again.
“For all the work, it went the other way,” Parker, 28, said Wednesday, the day after the election, which saw Democrats post their worst statewide losses in years.

Quote Of The Night
What kind of night has it been for the GOP? In Georgia, one John F. Kennedy was elected to the state Senate … as a Republican.

2014 Midterm Open Thread
So have you heard the latest theory that is being bandied about by people who are scared to death that we are all being tricked like we have never been tricked before? Have you heard the theory? Here’s the theory: There is no Democrat catastrophe that’s going to happen today. The Democrat loss, while it may happen — it’s a midterm election with a sitting Democrat in the Oval Office — is by no means going to be anywhere as big as the media and a lot of Democrats out there are trying to convince us it’s going to be.
The theory holds that this is a giant trap that has been set so that Republicans and commentators and conservatives run around in the days leading up to the election talking about the massive victory for the Republicans, the catastrophic defeat for the Democrats, but that isn’t really going to happen. The Democrat loss is gonna be nowhere near — this is the theory — the Democrat loss is gonna be nowhere near catastrophic. It’s not gonna be anywhere near as bad as most people think it’s gonna be, which will then permit the media and the Democrats tomorrow to claim outright victory, a moral victory, if you will. Instead of being shut out 28 to nothing, they’ll lose 28-21. Came close.

If you watched David Akin yesterday, you know that the main election themes for the election appear to be fracking and abortion. NB votes on the September 22.

Have y’all heard of the Bundy Ranch standoff in Nevada? Shit just got real. Facebook is blocking the posting of links to this video.
If you have a FB account, consider attempting to post the link from YouTube and see for yourselves what happens. After you are told that it is blocked, there is a link to click if you think it was blocked in error. Wouldn’t it be interesting if FB got an SDAvalanche of attempts and complaints about the censorship?
