Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

It only took 3% of the people to make a revolution. Could be done again…
Andrew, Old Hickory, Jackson is the seventh President of the U.S.A. as many who visit here know. Visiting the “Old Hickory” historic plantation site in Tennessee has helped me visualize the form of the Slave Holding Southern Plantation more effectively than any of the other sites visted in the U.S.
This is not saying it was acceptable, especially in today’s cultural expectations, but one does understand a bit better how a hard working white person born as an orphan into a hard-scrabble live could rise to become the leader of the Nation. Chees.
Projecting Jacksonian democracy onto The Donald is a bit much. Jackson and his followers were dead opposed to big banks and big business, as was Teddy Roosevelt coming more than 80 years later. Whereas The Donald epitomizes big business and big finance.
What it shows is the great mismatch between The Donald and those who genuinely want smaller government and business and less of it. The only reason The Donald is leading right now is because he seems less of a bad fit to this image than the rest of the contenders.
that’s not a bad column, but this one is far better – and explains a lot:
http://www.breitbart.com/big-government/2015/12/14/a-stark-choice-ted-cruzs-jacksonian-americanism-vs-marco-rubios-wilsonian-internationalism/
“The only reason The Donald is leading right now is because he seems less of a bad fit to this image than the rest of the contenders.” I think you nailed it. This was a great article to read and in many ways I can identify with Jacksonian Americanism. Marxism and cultural Marxism is doing its best to destroy 800 years of classical liberal democracy and an organized coalition of whatever you want to call it libertarian/Jacksonian/small government etc, is the only way the Marxist assault will be stopped.
I had not realized what the Breitbart analysis portrayed as a Ted Cruz Jacksonian Americanism versus a Marco Rubio Wilsonian-Internationalism should be considered, but looking at a few books on the aftermath of WWI and the Paris 1919 peace agreements it is easy to think that Wilson was a forerunner to the Marxist/Socialist thinking.
Doesn’t matter whether they’re Jacksonian or not because the country is broke. Brokistan. The brokest nation in history. Busted. Trillions and trillions and quadrillions of . . . . . dollars???? Debts will never be paid. They might default after everyone else has but they will end up defaulting.
They deserve what they will get . . . . . as will we Canuckistanians.
Twenty years ago I would have been in the Wilson camp, now I am in the Jackson camp.
I just read that at least 5,000,000 – yes five million – jobs will be lost in the next 5 years in the USA ( this will happen in Canada as wel of course ) because “robots” or sophisticated computer assisted machinery will replace humans in more and more jobs everyday.
Why are we welcoming larger and larger numbers of immigrants if the number of available jobs is going down, and going down fast?
Why import hordes of people who will not be able to find jobs and who we will have a harder and harder time supporting with our tax dollar because we too will be without jobs?
Do our leaders ( Trudeau, Obama, Merkel et cetera ) hate us or what?
Why are our leaders doing something that they know can only end badly?
They may as well fill a barrel that is getting closer and closer to a fire with more and more gun powder, it would be the same type of insane thing to do.
Less jobs + more immigrants = CATASTROPHE
Well my canadian friend they have been promising us that robots and machinery will replace people and make lives easier since the cotton gin was invented in 1793. I am not holding my breath. When it comes to immigration all one has to do is look at our birth rate to see why we need to bring immigrants in the country. In order to a society to sustain present levels of population, let alone increase it, we need 2.4 births per female in our country. Guess what in the pursuit of granite countertops and glamourous pink collar ghetto jobs this is just not happening.
> In order to a society to sustain present levels of population, let alone increase it, we need 2.4 births per female in our country.
Why present levels of population need to be sustained or increased? Why cannot the numbers go down?
I’ve always felt that the “demographic necessity” argument for immigration was bullsh*t.
Perhaps westerners would have more children if:
1. They weren’t being told they’re racist monsters who need to lie down and die so they can be replaced by newcomers, (preferably from nations that hate westerners) and
2. They weren’t busy supporting the ever-growing client class of persons who depend on social spending – a class which includes many of those newcomers.
It does not matter how many jobs will be lost to robots and automation. What matters is how many NEW Jobs will be created in NEW industries.
These new jobs are being killed before they are born by regulation and high taxes. The taxes that are needed to support all the immigrants on the dole. The regulations that are not needed but are used to make things “fair” for the “poor and downtrodden” and incidentally employ millions of useless bureaucrats costing us billions in taxes and time spent answering useless forms under threat of being jailed and fined into destitution. We can be successful, if only government left us alone.
Thanks to the Democrats in the US and the Liberals in Canada these jobs will be created in Mexico, China, Vietnam, and any country that does not have too many bureaucrats, too much regulation, and excessive taxes.
Because government. Government of the people, by the government, for the government. The most important function of government is to preserve the government.
Government needs more taxpayers to pay for the social services it provides (even if the immigrants don’t seem likely to become taxpayers, that problem will be left to later.) Government needs more clients of the social services it provides to justify taxes.
The government is in the business of government, so it needs people to govern.
So true, mon ami
The USA is breeding and importing a permanent underclass (and Democrat voting bloc). An underclass that is straining the resources provided by the working class. Liberal elites have insulated themselves from this underclass … unless you count their cut-rate, off-the-books, gardeners and nannies. They live in their insulated communities, while simultaneously patting themselves on the back for being so “open” and “inclusive”. What they FAIL to understand is that they are breeding a class revolution that will consume them and their children. They will NOT be saved from the coming uprising. As jobs become more and more scarce, and the limits of government handouts are reached, this expanding underclass will revolt and consume them … just like every other Socialist Revolution throughout history. And no, not even their fanatical promotion of abortion will slow the underclass growth they have set in motion. America is doomed to become a Cuban satellite state.
No, it’s not “the most brokest nation in history”. Not even close. A slew of EU nations are way ahead in that lineup. A bunch of South American nations are way ahead. China’s rickety financing structure, ditto Japan, all put them ahead. Greece alone is heading towards its third or fourth bankruptcy.
And in the past, Spain in the early 17th century actually did go bankrupt despite having the largest cash flow of the largest empire that ever existed.
But I agree with your sentiment. The US is clearly headed very much in the wrong direction.
So true, and IF America’s faux-greenies REALLY cared about saving the world from Globullshit Warming … they would DEMAND the repatriation of every manufacturing job to America’s shores. Where our reasonable and prudent environmental regulations would provide for clean manufacturing. Not by an avalanche of unreasonable regulations … just logical, prudent means of restrictions on fouling our air and water. Things that are completely absent in the third world. And yes, that would put the cost of a new iPhone out of the reach of 95% of Americans. Apple will have to get creative and solve that problem too.
You’d have a point if the immigrants we are letting in want to get their hands dirty. I’m not sure they are of the same vein as the immigrants of say 20 or so years ago. We don’t have many young men or women taking much pride in developing callouses, and wiping the sweat off their brow on Friday before enjoying that beer after work, let alone expecting a raise or a promotion.
Working smart not hard means show up for your pension and let some other bloke wear himself out …
We went from “hard work never killed anyone” to “hard work would may cause allergies”
It’s the work ethic that’s really disappeared not the bodies.
I resent Jackson, the first Democrat president, being the label foisted on Trump and Cruz. Jackson was a populist and fought to win. Beyond that I don’t find anything to be emulated. Certainly not his hog trough policy of “the spoils to the victor.” Or his “Trail of Tears.”
Why can’t Republicans be identified with Reagan?
Hardly. There are far more eminent Republicans to be identified with than Reagan. Abraham Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt, and Dwight Eisenhower are three that come readily to mind.
The Democrat party used to have an annual Jefferson-Jackson day dinners all over the U.S. It was a big fund raiser and the money was used to support party functions for that year. It was always well attended by big shot politicians and donors. Usually, the president (if he was a Democrat) would make a speech at one of the dinners. It was a big deal. Well, you’re not going to believe this, but in 2015 somebody found out that Jefferson and Jackson owned slaves! And here the Democrats had been honoring these slaveholders for all these years. Who knew? Well, right thinking people in the Democrat party put an end to that, for which we should all be grateful.
It’s hard for me, someone who is usually full of cheery optimism, to have a positive view of what’s going to happen in the next year or two. We are in for hard times, my friends, on both sides of the border. There are powerful forces at work that may reach a lunatic crescendo very soon. Some have observed that we have the worst political class in history. I don’t know about that, but it’s hard to see how liberal democracies will survive this latest onslaught of barbarians, grifters and totalitarians. But this generation is going to see how it all comes down.

People who call themselves conservatives should not be for Trump.
Yeah because replacing Swedes with Somalians will be a success story like say…Detroit city?
John if this is true why does the establishment absolutely loath Donald trump
Good point about pollution from third world nations.
but about this other thing ;
” And yes, that would put the cost of a new iPhone out of the reach of 95% of Americans. Apple will have to get creative and solve that problem too. ”
yeah but no one needs an Apple phone no more than they need a Rolls Royce.
Apple products are so over priced it is ridiculous.
Brand new smart phones ( other brands ) start at around $75.00 and they do about 99% of what an Apple phone can do…except making people feel superior
and most people do not even know how to use all the functions of their Apple phones, thus never use them, so who cares that an Apple phone can almost do some special stuff ? Most people use Apple to talk, text and take pictures, 99% of what it can do is never used by most owners.
I heard on Charlie Rose that of the billions of profits made on cell phones, Apple is making 90% of the profits. yes Apple has 90% of the profits in the cell phone industry…
as I was saying Apple phones are insanely over priced. by a factor of about 5 or 6.
They are worth maybe $100 or $125 at most.
I also hate the Apple store by the way.
I could write a whole chapter on why I hate the Apple store with their completely ineficient way of doing things. ( I do not own any Apple products but my girlfriend has an Apple phone…silly gullible fool that she is, that is how I know about the Apple stores )
Apple products are so over priced,it is ridiculous
As a real estate developer Trump has bumped up against miles of big government red tape and mountains of government regulatory stupidity.
I’m not convinced he has the answers, but I think he knows what the problems are.
Did you read the article? They hate Cruz more.
I used to be a loyal Apple user but not any more. I had problems with one of my PowerMacs a few years ago and Apple refused to sell me replacement parts. (Getting them from second-hand dealers isn’t easy, either.)
It was then that I decided to switch over to open-source operating systems and use either refurbished or home-brew machines. I want to switch over to either Linux or FreeBSD but there I haven’t found comparable programs for certain Mac software packages that I still use.
Over the years, I’ve owned 5 Macs and 4 of them had hardware problems at one time or another. I’ve been using an off-the-shelf Compag for several years and the only thing I ever had trouble with so far was that the power supply died one day. Within 24 hours, I bought a replacement and the machine ran like a charm. Try doing that with an Apple product!
By the way, I agree that Apple machines are way over-priced. They always were.
just read somewhere oxfam bemoans that 62 individuals own half the worlds wealth.
I think they’re just talking cash and securities, ie the real liquid stuff, but an interesting talking point in some circles.
lotteries are the growth industry now.
Ted Cruz is the true Jacjsonian in this race because he is consistently Constitutionalist.
Trump, we don’t really know what he believes .
They consider Trump their social inferior, so they are outraged he might become President. That is sufficient.
But, they hate Cruz far more because his loyalty to the Constitution guarantees that the American people, not elite opinion, would rule the U.S. I predict their hatred will become maximal if he becomes the nominee, and they will openly advocate his murder if he does become the nominee..
Cruz is a Constitutionalist when it suits him. He’s not eligible to be president because he’s not a natural born citizen. He’s a natural born Canadian. Or, maybe, Cuban…given the interpretations floating around.
A congressional statute doesn’t override the Constitution.
Ok Justice Stradivarious.
Heh, and keeping and bearing arms means only knives and spears, right? Your betters, the judges can decide that, right?
I am not a liberal bud. Trump is.
They all are when it comes to inconvenient things they encounter…
No idea what you are talking about: https://www.conservativereview.com/2016-presidential-candidates
