Anyone who backs a new tax for any reason is a retard.
No new tax is ever used for its stated intended purpose (except for maybe 5 or 10% of the revenue it generates) and, once a government has a source of income, it must NEVER lose it.
Does anyone out there believe that we still have income tax only because we haven’t yet paid off the costs of WWI? Any nitwits still think that all the GST revenue has been going to pay off the national debt and will go away as soon as that’s accomplished (in about 167 years at the current rate)?

Dion claims this tax will be “revenue neutral”. However, he will use it to transfer money from the west to buy off Toronto and Montréal. If they believe they will get the money while putting us evil capitalist red necks back where we belong it will be a quick sale. Destroying the economy be damned.

Just for the hell of it, the energy producers in the country should throttle back their production to a point where their emissions drop to the levels dictated by the idiotic levels “negotiated” by Chretien. By doing so, the supply of energy would fall, the price would sky-rocket and would be passed onto the consumer. Canada would enter a deep depression and likely be torn apart by the political forces within the country. It’s really amazing how Liberals and leftists can’t seem to understand the concept of unintended consequences. Apparently their “method of thinking” really IS a form of mental illness.
So Stephane Dion is going to increase our heating and lighting and food and yes even the price of gas by 10% (CBC National is reporting). And oh – yeah – he’s proposing in lowering the personal tax rate from 15% to 13.5%. Big bleaping deal!

When I watch Question Period, I get the distinct impression that the opposition parties (without exception) all seem to want to punish Alberta. Do they not realize Alberta is paying more than it’s share into the budget of this country? If they keep it up, Alberta may just say good bye and then who’d pay the bills!
Dion has no idea what the impact on the economy will be. He is only talking about the carbon tax collected by the government as being revenue neutral.
However, when all businesses and industry start seeing there operating costs for energy etc going through the roof they will most certainly pass those costs onto their consumers. That will result in our standard of living declining, inflation increasing, interest rates moving up. Meanwhile Dion thinks we should be happy with a 10% reduction in taxes while our cost of living goes up 30%.
Media is reporting that Dion is also going to impose import duties on goods from places like China. Well, do we think the Chinese and other countries are going to sit idly by and accept that? They will levy import duties on Canadian goods in exchange. That means Canadian businesses will begin to suffer with resulting job losses. As it is with 85% of our exports going to the States our companies will become less competitive. More job losses or even loss of businesses to Mexico, China and India.
Dion has the political instincts of a nat and this is one policy that clearly demonstrates it in spades.
I hope Danny boy is prepared to pay all the bills when Alberta leaves this place called Canada.

The govt of Canada will never implement a carbon tax, a green shift tax or a tax on everything, make it a confidence motion and have the liberals abstain on voting. That would be fun. The vote could take place around midnight at a special sitting.
