Thanks to reader Vitruvius;
This track is 12 minutes long, 9 megabytes big, and is probably not safe for work, unless like me you are fortunate enough to work only amongst a small group of friends, otherwise you should probably listen to this in a closet at home with the lights turned off, and play something safe at work, like rap. Oh, and also, this is guy beer-drinkin’ humour, so even though it’s pretty good guy beer-drinkin’ humour, if you don’t grok that shtick: skip it.”
Correction – Les Pavelick graces us with a visit in the comments;
Hi,,,,Just F.Y.I.
I started doing ”Metro ” About 5 years before Nestor came around. We are not the same person, I am the original. I did the cotton pickers live from the hat tv show, with host JJ cennon in the early 70’s and am still doing the odd gig. you can check out Metros web site at www.metroscomedy.com/
I am the same metro who did the 11 days from xmas. not Nestor ….I do reside in Sk.

Oy, there go my stats again.
Nestor was a regular on a CFQC-TV Saskatoon program hosted by Jack ?? he was Station MGR from the Prince Albert CBC Station. It was Country dancing with Nester or Jack doing Ukrainian jokes between sets. I think the show played to Air on Sat
I understand that CFQC has archived most of their old film & Tape in Regina.
BTW: My wife, who is Ukrainian, heard what was said about Roy R, and thought it was funny as Hell. I do not consider her Conservative but there is hope.
OKay. I’m supposed to be sorry . . . or something . . . but that was funny.
Cheers,
lance
“Nestor was a regular on a CFQC-TV Saskatoon program hosted by Jack ??”
It was Jack Cennon, who was also the morning man on CKBI radio for 39 years.
Metro was so funny! I had almost forgotten him. I actually met him in costume over 25 years ago as a boy; he was signing autographs just inside Eaton’s in the Cornwall Centre, on the second floor!
Did I just imagine the clicks, pops, and stylus wiggle on vinyl? Brings back memories.
I work with some guys that have accents like this, the sound is pleasant and not at all phlegmmy.
‘Monty Python visits Oscar Wilde’ was much cleverer though.
“My wife, who is Ukrainian, heard what was said about Roy R, and thought it was funny as Hell.”

Phillip, we have to remember that socialists are humourless at best and more commonly, find humour to be offensive.
…while funny he still doesn’t beat Broket 99
Dang whitie commerical…
Link’s not working for me. Is it a Firefox problem on my end?
It must have been temporary, or on your end. Just checked now and they were fine.
I still have his Christmas album. It is really quite good.
Nuanced!
Sad that to be PC these days you can’t laugh at Metro’s schtick. What a bunch of leftard crap.
That guy is funny and I’m a jew.
If you cannot make fun of yourself then to borrow a phrase: your head is so far up your ass…
Socialism – founded on the haunting fear that someone, somewhere, may be happy.
Forgive my ignorance, but did Metro not precede Nestor Pistor by a few years? As in they are not the same person?
I too thought they were differnt people.
I was introduced to Nestor by a Ukranian friend and co worker. Nestor was pretty amusing if you’d had enough beer.
A Ukranian woman from “Vagersville Elberta” has a fine young baby boy but he is born with no eyelids.
“Oh mine Gad” she wails ” he’s got no eyelids”. “How will he drive combine with all that dust in his eyes”
Don’t worry” says the doctor. “We are going to circumcise him and we will sew his foreskin on in place of his eyelids.”
“Oh! oh! but doctor. she cries “Won’t that make him little bits cockeyed.”
“Well, Yes it will” says the doctor “But think of all the foresight he will have”
If I am not mistaken. Metro is Les Pavilik still lives in the city of Saskatoon, although about 100lbs heavier. I listened to him re do the same lines about 4 years ago. Nestor and Metro were not so heated rivals, but, rivals none the less.

I hope that the scandal wll become the theft of the videotape by ther NDP.
And any non-Ukrainians banyaks that immitate Nestor or Metro in my vicinity will get their straxa’s kicked!
Funny, I always thought the whole purpose of getting drunked up was that it allowed you to say and do stupid things that you wouldn’t NORMALLY do.
BTW, wasn’t Jack’s PA radio tag the ‘JJ Cennon Show’?
“Life is tough and if you have the ability to laugh at it, you have the ability to enjoy it.” – Salma Hayek.
Faux???
Holy frak, Kate said “grok”!
Let me be the first to say “nanu nanu!”
I didn’t, I”m quoting Vit.
I don’t grok the association between ‘grok’ and Mork.
Ancient sci-fi reference, plus Stranger in a Strange Land was about as sensible as Mork from Ork. Read it now, you just shake your head and say “frak!”

What what what what what??? (Said in best Neddie Seagoon voice.) Wrong, you say, Nestor wasn’t Metro? Aieee! Oh boy, mea culpa, sorry about that Les. I fear I shall have to retreat to the solace of the words of George Bernard Shaw, who said, “A life spent making mistakes is not only more honorable but more useful than a life spent doing nothing”.
So for the record (ahem) then, “Elewen Days From Christmas” is by Metro, and “Winestoned Plowboy” is by Nestor. Meanwhile, fortunately, Metro is himself excellent, as we have heard, and at least I don’t have to change the existing Sagacious Iconoclast page.
Once again, sorry for any confusion I may have caused.
Les, it is a honour to hear from you, sir. Do you ever
do any live shows these days? I’d love to attend one.
If any one knows where to buy Metro cd’s in the province i would love to get my half ukrainian half slovak boyfriend one. Yes.. the records would be better (I think his dad has them all) but…. we don’t own a record player..
whoops.. not that swift today.. never mind…
That was funny. Enjoyed it muchly. Thank you for the link.
brings back memories of the long ago radio skits we listened to late at night when returning from dirt track stockcar racing, tax Vit
Les, if you are still popping by, I’ll let you know that my wife is from Tisdale and remembers you with great fondness. I do as well. We thank you!
In our youth we owned and listened to many LP’s, and the collection included Metro and that other guy, Nestor. Oh those were the days when we could still laugh and not have to look over our shoulder at the same time.
Kate, it snowed 15 centimetres in (west) Edmonton today. You and Vitruvius rescued Saturday for us.
that’s thax Vit:-))))
Sounded so funny I felt like putting plates on my pickup truck and driving home. Thanks for the fun and nostalgic moment!
Sorry KS, but your not from Sask.

Oh, langman, that’s politically incorrect. You’re in trouble now.
Ohmygod, people laughing at themselves and each other, what has this world come to. Cheers to all.
I actually met some of the Cottonpickers at the Bell’s Beach restaurant in the late 70’s as a kid. The restaurant (I’m having a hard time recalling it’s name…Milky Way???) is no longer there but my Dad still has a Cottonpickers LP or two hanging around. Those were memorable times.
A real good evening out would be Nestor as MC and between sets entertainment with Mclean & Mclean as the headliners.
My family met Les/Metro in the late 70’s out at Echo Lake..he was in the next campsite over and when me and my brother would play football on the campsite road, he would came over and join us for a game. We still have the polaroids my dad took way back then. He was a hell of a nice guy and it certainly made camping alot more fun for 2 young boys!
I sure hope this is not some attempt to excuse the insulting of Ukrainian Voters from Preecville by Brad Wall … Metro and Nestor Pistor (whom my father new well) didn’t have their behavior funded by taxpayers under an Election Act.
