The Zimbabwe Solution

In a country where the leaders refer to each other as comrade, it’s only a matter of time until they come up with a scheme to strip-mine investors. What could possibly go wrong?

Alarm bells are ringing in South Africa over the potential introduction of a wealth tax, a measure being pushed by several civil society organisations and now being considered by the National Treasury in collaboration with SARS.

If a wealth tax is to be introduced, questions remain as to whether it will tax wealth directly or focus on the returns generated by wealth, which are already subject to various taxes, including personal income tax, capital gains tax, and taxes on interest and rentals.

    1. I have been to SA twice and have friends there. The country is absolutely beautiful. I am afraid that they are so far down the path to become the next Zimbabwe that there may be no chance of redemption. What a waste. So very sad.

    2. As Maggie Thatcher astutely said: The problem with socialism is you eventually run out of other people’s money.

  1. A wealth tax. LOOK … you’ve got stuff and money, and the lazy, stupid, and shiftless population don’t. They WANT … YOUR stuff and money.

Greed, Envy, and Jealously are as old as mankind. Advanced civilizations mostly tamped it down if not eradicated it. Institutionalizing Envy and jealously is sick and ends with mountains of skulls.

  2. One of my political fantasies is for Trump to invite to the US all the white settlers in SA who have had their property stripped from them by their government. They would be good additions to the country as they would be literate and possess real practical skills. The reaction from the left to deliberately bringing in white immigrants would be priceless.
