The Telegraph- Damaged electric cars ‘quarantined’ over fears they will explode
Electric cars that sustain minor bumps are being kept 15 meters apart in repair yards over fears they might explode, adding to insurance bills.
Government guidelines recommend electric vehicles with damaged batteries should be “quarantined” from other vehicles due to the risk of battery fires. Damaged batteries pose a risk of “thermal runaway” where the energy stored in the battery releases rapidly, creating temperatures of up to 400C.
But the practice threatens to increase costs for the insurance industry by more than £600m, costs which ultimately could be passed onto drivers in increased premiums, according to a report by automotive risk firm Thatcham Research.

Who said no solutions exist, only trade offs ?
Tom Sowell! What do I win?
Thumbs up for awareness !
So electric vehicles are now a hazard if involved in a minor accident. They cause more wear and tear on our roads. They will cause more strain on the grid. They wear out tires faster. They are heavier than a comparable ICE vehicle, and therefore may cause structural damage in older car parkades. The storage capabilities are reduced in extreme temperatures. They take longer to re-fuel than an ICE vehicle. They don’t get the travel distance on a charge that an ICE vehicle gets on a full tank. So tell me why the urgency by governments to force us into these vehicles and tell me why so many people are clamoring to comply, is there really that much stupidity in the world? Forgive me, stupid question, after all look who we’ve elected, there really is that much imbecilic stupidity in the world.
You misunderstand. The urgency of the government has nothing to do with practical engineering issues. It is because most people will not be able to afford them and those that do can be controlled by limiting access to easily controlled electricity. This is reducing the number of serfs who can travel. They don’t want you to be able to travel … forcing you to live in their 15 minute cities (aka concentration camps) where you can be controlled more easily through access to food and your behavior can be monitored for your social credit score.
It makes no sense in this world, but the plan is to remake the world the way they want it to be. And that doesn’t really include you and I.
There’ll be a government subsidy for that in 3,. 2,.. 1.
I think the pious arseholes who drive the cars should be quarantined as well.
I’m starting to see signs at commercial parking lots banning EVs because of the fire risks.
I guess we can add Parking Space Anxiety to Range Anxiety, ruralcounsel.
Add them together and it creates brutal levels of anxiety only the most virtuous of virtue signalers can endure.
“…costs which ultimately could be passed onto drivers in increased premiums,…”
Could be? A bit more definite than that. And not passed on just to EV owners.
Two stroke motorcycles rule!
1975 Honda RD350 , what a ride.
Miss that bike.
I am so looking forward to Steven Guilbeault being in a car accident in his EV. No, no I don’t want him injured or killed.
I want to see the fire start slowly enough that he escapes but scares the crapola out of him, to see video of him struggling with his seat belt until he’s finally free, then running away like a girly man and sitting down for a good cry.
Here’s a dream for all Canadians: Guilbeault reformed and sane and a much warmer Canada.
Batteries are compressed energy.. Compressed fire.. Crack that egg and its going to burn.. Its the best thing about it on a smaller scale and the worst on a larger scale.. Packed parking lots and highway pileups come to mind..
Imagine dense fog or a white out with EVs full of people feeding themselves into the fire.. 200 car pileups happen.. I do hope somebody is doing the math on that one.. Do we even know the parameters on what a parking lot 50 car lithium fire looks like?.. How far back do you need to be from that?.. Is 25 cars the limit? Or 10?..
I suspect its all bad news.. Parking lots with 12 feet between cars and no driving in low visibility.. The fun never stops..
