  1. Xi has a better designated candidate for our governing complex. Chen needed a little convincing. With Carney’s special security relationship with the CCP, the RCMP may eventually be up to the task and potentially reduce their carbon footprint.

  7. And so many people wonder why President Trump calls the Canadian government “nasty”? I ask “Why would the American government want the Chinese on the northern border of the United States? Why does Canada NOT have a great military anymore, only recently “promised” to fund the military with 2% of the GDP?
    It is too bad that so many of the younger generations were not required to read “1984”. Orwell knew his stuff when he wrote the book in 1948. The 3 main geopolitical groups are Russia, China and the United States. Only one can be in the ascendancy at any one time. Currently, Russia is bogged down in the Ukraine war and China is trying to take over Canada and SE Asian waters. We definitely live in “interesting times”.

      Because the #Lieberals decided back under Pearson to let the Americans do it. That’s why. (There’s an argument to be made that it was Diefenbaker who started this sh1t with the Arrow, I’m open to the conversation.)

      The #Lieberals want to build the military back up now because the Americans told them quite bluntly that they’re not going to do it anymore, and if Canada wants to keep being a thing they better do it themselves.

      Those nassssty Americans, eh? How rude!

        I think it’s more nuanced than that. The truth is that the Arrow was a boondoggle. Even if it hadn’t been rendered obsolete by ICBMs before it ever flew, the program was a massive white elephant that would have bankrupted the country. Like the Apollo program, it was less about doing anything useful and more about spending huge amounts of money showing off how awesome Canada was at technology. The US could afford to do that in 1963. Canada couldn’t. Financially, cancelling the Arrow would have been the right decision even if ICBMs had never been invented.

        Militarily? The F-4 Phantom II as built outperformed the Arrow’s design spec, so it was always the better aircraft. We didn’t “let the Americans do it” after the Arrow was cancelled; we bought F-101 and F-104 designs and built them ourselves. Although to be fair that’s because we couldn’t afford anything better by that point.

  11. Ice/Polar Silk Road — I’m impressed that they finally came out and gave it a name, no more hiding it.
    And yes, it does run through Ottawa; yes, you will be used by it. And yes, this is why we’re so interested in Greenland (and you)…Canada and Greenland are more of a developing national security threat to my country than Latin America and the Caribbean, and we will be paying more attention to you in the future.
    Nothing personal, other than we have to protect ourselves. I suppose that does make it rather personal after all.

    But you need to factor the European side, not just China and Russia.
