Left Coast, Lost Cause

We are governed by a secret cabal of our enemies.

Without legislative approval or a public mandate, the BC NDP government—apparently enabled by the federal government—is negotiating a secret agreement with a tiny, remote Indigenous community that aims to recognize legally unproven Aboriginal title, transfer lands, share revenue and cede unprecdented governance authority over 11 per cent of the province in one of Canada’s most mineral-rich districts, containing an estimated value of known deposits exceeding C$1 trillion.

That’s trillion with a ‘t.’

The end goal of the so-called “foundation agreement” is the recognition of Tahltan Nation rights and title over “Tahltan territory,” defined repeatedly as its entire legally unproven territorial claim spanning 96,000 square kilometres, according to public documents and other heavily redacted files obtained under a Freedom of Information request by the Public Land Use Society.

“The [foundation agreement] negotiations will be based upon recognition of Tahltan Aboriginal Title and Rights in Tahltan Territory,” reads a 2020 “shared prosperity agreement” that defines the geographic area as “the traditional territory identified by the Tahltan.”

Tahltan’s territorial claim spans an area larger than Portugal, including 70 per cent of the Golden Triangle, one of the richest mineral districts in Canada, which the BC Geological Survey estimated in 2021 to hold a total contained metal value of C$1.28 trillion. […]

The Tahltan Central Government is the administrative governing structure for the Tahltan and Iskut Indian bands representing two clans who together make up the Tahltan Nation with 636 people living on reserve and 2,444 registered members living elsewhere.

The most stubborn obstacle to securing recognition of Tahltan title may might not be having to prove it in court—both senior levels of government appear inexplicably eager to dispense with the constitutional standard of proof, as they did with Haida title. Nor have governments openly expressed any concern for the public interests or the usurping of its governance authority over Crown land. Rather, the biggest pushback may come from neighbouring Indigenous communities.

  1. It is easier to make under the table deals with a small tribe than with a large government. Good to know there are still some 19th century capitalists in Canada.

  2. You would think that Canadians would rise up against this!

    Maybe a class action lawsuit?

    Made you laugh didn’t I?

I suspect Canadians win important cases against the Government about as often as Cubans.

    $25.00 PM Integrity fines notwithstanding.

  3. Canada no longer exists. As an American I look forward to forcefully claiming and possessing the land and resources, and then incorporating these assets into an independent American protectorate.

    1. I wouldn’t get too cocky.
You have 2 political parties and one of them already has their block captains in place.
Pravda is prevalent, running dogs abound.
You may be going from Trump right to your own Fidel/Pierre.

      Stupid reigns regardless of border.

    2. The Next American president will likely be the current governor of California and the whole American experience is about to change,

      1. Yeah, no…there is zero chance of Newsom becoming President. Kamala Harris had a better shot.

        1. Yeah there was zero chance that Biden would be president either but he got 20 million more votes than any president ever. And given that no one has done anything to make American elections different than North Korean elections Newsome will get 30,000,000 more votes than Biden got. All those guns and all that ammo and Americans did nothing about the fakest election ever. Knowing that American conservatives don’t have the guts to shoot them for fake elections they’re going to win the next one whether anyone votes for them or not.

  4. We should have exterminated the Indians when we could. The new Chinese masters will have no qualms about doing that. Of course the government could always tell them to F Off.

    1. Those are almost the same words used by Chief Bill Wilson (Father of Jody Wilson Raybould who, while the Spawn’s Attorney General ordered all indigenous claims to be “settled” rather than litigated – a gross conflict of interest but the media loved her). I was involved in a land use “negotiation” process 35 years ago (a hideous NDP co-option under the “Commission on Resources and Environment”) on Vancouver Island representing one of the forest companies and Bill Wilson stood up and looked right at me and my fellow white male foresters (representing the other companies) and said “we should have killed you all while we had the chance”.

      1. And he would have been right, but given that we had steel, wheels and gunpowder the odds were in our favour.

  5. I don’t understand what’s going on in Canadian politics. How is it that the NDP has only three seats in the House of Commons from BC, yet controls the provincial Legislative Assembly?

    1. The NDP, LPC and Greens are interchangeable voters. They all vote strategically against the Conservatives. The provincial NDP supporters voted Liberal which is the most Orwellian named party ever. Illiberal is more accurate. I live in one of the most brain-dead ridings in BC where, because it includes a mill town that once had significant operating mills, they are genetically disposed to vote NDP.

  6. Nothing quite says “Treason” like government engaging in secret deals with a minority group ,while refusing the public, who they claim to represent, any information..
The corruption so apparent in the “Just Us System” becomes stark, when the same judge who makes insane decisions, then gets to rule on the appeal.
If the supporters of Canadian Apartheid, wanted to prolong the agony of these stone age peoples….what would they do differently?
And who are these “Indigenous persons”?,for no “pure blood natives” exist today.
So what makes this group of descendants of colonizers, more special than the rest?
Grifters gotta grift and the Never Done Payers, will attach themselves to any grift going.

  7. Lol.
    Clown Nation.
This is no different than quitting your job and giving your house and all your possessions to a bunch of hobos.

  8. Nothing to see here folks, just the ongoing inversion of apartheid in Trudeauopia where the Constitution in Sec. 35 recognizes aboriginal title and no property rights protection exists for everyone else including apparently the Crown. “Government to government” negotiations have been ongoing for the last 50 years or so. That one side is a mythical government that is entirely supported by the taxpaying serfs of the other seems to be irrelevant. Judicial fiat has supplanted the legislatures in driving the inversion but the social worker poverty-pimp mentality of the NDP in BC have taken it to its point where the supposed owners of the 5% of BC that is in fee simple of the most feudal of Canadian provinces have started to notice. The NDP having reached the tolerance limits of the citizens as they do after multiple terms know they will be replaced and are desperately locking up as much land for their indigenous masters as fast as they can while they can.

  9. L – Cold Lake based lawyer, Leighton Grey(treaty status) believes the fed./B.C. gov’t. strategy re land claims in B.C. is it opens China to make secret contracts or leases with the C.C.P. . Is it already happening? A good question.

Some years ago China bought a mine in B.C. and was going to bring in workers from China. A B.C. miners union raised enough of a fuss. The deal was cancelled. But when the land is owned by a tribe/band and if imported workers from China are involved, do it to the entire province and as Treaty Land, it becomes federal Crown Land, not provincial. Pretty Slick Carney, P.M., a carpetbagger?

  10. Tahlitan. did l get that right? honest to gawd never heard of them. and now they share control of a trillion ‘with a T’ in resources?
l really am glad l was born when l was and lived when l am. perfect timing to take my autistic brain thru the golden age of mainframe computing, tag along for the personal computer era, and bemoan the chaos and nonsense that has taken over the world.
