The amazing @DavidSacks warned us a long time ago about Anthropic’s AI Safety Theater and regulatory capture.
He saw this early and took arrows for it.
So Anthropic got its way…
And now the check is being cashed on Anthropic.

Those trying to misdirect and tie this action to the prior DoW/Anthropic issues are wrong. The Admin values Anthropic’s technical capabilities and feels that this issue, while serious, should be easily resolved. The ball is in Anthropic’s court.
Dario Amodei, the head of Anthropic, hates the Right and Trump. Same as Yann LeCun, former head of Meta’s AI
program who has now gone back to France and started a new company backed be VC firms with “Asian” backing. He’s been outspoken in his hatred of “The Right” – you know freedom, liberty and stuff. Both leaders are Collectivist.
I wouldn’t trust either of these companies or their leaders but they are very smart. Apparently the Trump Administration doesn’t trust them either.
If LeCunn is right he could upset the whole applecart with his very different take on AI – more visual than scarfing up the entire Library of Congress and the Internet with their LLM’s.
Let’s see how their EU IPO goes, shall we? Or their Hang Seng IPO …

Reading between the lines, those AI models could be jailbroken and used offensively, and thus may be used as weapon, making them subject to ITAR (hence the no foreigners). There hasn’t been a CISA post on it yet (see: https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog ) but Anthropic seems to be downplaying it.
