Y2Kyoto: Blunder Down Under

Turns out, net zero was easier to reach than anyone dared dream: Australia has 403 billion barrels of shale oil — 17.5 billion of which is immediately recoverable. But it banned fracking. So now it’s begging for diesel from countries that don’t have a gallon to spare 🤡

Mais oui, it was finalement, euh, within zee reach, non? French energy giant TotalEnergies says it will no longer aim to reach net zero emission targets by 2050

More: I’m out of diesel. All the farmers are out of diesel.

  1. Begging for diesel and exporting LNG to Canada. Nice world we have here.

    1. L – Maybe, Australia can make their canola crop into bio-diesel? That would raise the international price for the Canola grown by Canadian prairie farmers !!!

  2. “A neoconservative is a liberal who was mugged by reality” Irving Kristol.

Soon it will be the same for people who believed that green energy could replace traditional energy. That it was a good idea to keep oil in the ground. That maintaining petroleum infrastructure was unnecessary (refineries, pipelines, etc.). They are now being mugged by the reality that oil and natgas are far more important to the economy and their personal well being than they were led to believe by progressive politicians and activists. Fairytale green dreams shattered by brutal economic reality. I’m looking forward to people finally realizing the importance of national food and energy security and the role oil and natural gas play in ensuring that security.

Besides targeting methane emissions from cows and New Zealand’s famous sheep, Arden banned oil and gas exploration in 2018. Although she’d been warned that her climate cult fantasies of windmills, hydro, and solar panels might not be ready for prime time, Ardern plowed ahead. The results quickly proved the naysayers correct, as power shortages loomed and the dwindling gas reserves in the fields that were still producing shrank faster than predicted due to additional, unforeseen draws

But why aren’t the green energy pioneers happy?

  4. this is the end result of the stevie boy steve gill boat mentaility, issue edicts from on high aka mandate mandate and let ‘er rip!!! Y’ALL KOW TOW NOW. (its the Liberal way!!! er, weigh?) gawd Canaduhians have gotten way over the stupid end of the spectrum 2026. tilt!! tilt !! tilt !! remember the old pinball machines?? havent seen one of those in a while. its all electronic on a flat screen now

  5. It doesn’t make sense to me that diesel, a less refined product, is much more expensive than gasoline. Not so long ago, it was cheaper.

    1. Win-Lose.

A good bit of the price increase was a result of legal requirements for low sulfur content. As I understand it, at least one additional step was added to the refining process and this required capital investments in plant infrastructure.

“The Drawbacks of Ultra-Low Sulfur Diesel
While highly beneficial, ULSD presents some drawbacks, with increased pump prices being the most significant. Removing sulfur from diesel adds a step to the fuel production process, raising the cost of the end product. That’s one of the reasons diesel is more expensive than gasoline today.

The sulfur reduction process also strips ULSD of its lubricity, which is essential for keeping the engine’s pumps and injectors lubricated. Lower lubricity levels mean the engine will likely experience more wear over time, resulting in higher maintenance costs.”

    2. It’s more about the amount produced. Aus decided to shut down most of their refineries under Nut Zero, so they export their crude and then import the finished products. Also you generally get more gasoline than diesel out of a barrel of oil, so that might also have an effect.

    3. One of the other issues is that all Militaries run on Diesel and Jet Fuel, guess who are engaged in wars right now or worried about stocking up? Everyone with two brain cells to rub together. Which means not Canada but probably China, Russia, Korea, all the asian countries and India as well as the Middle East. The US will be going through Diesel like a Democrat snorting coke in the White House. The other issue that Aus and NZ have to worry about is putting Diesel aside for emergency services like Fire and Ambulance as well as all the Military applications. Soon it won’t be that the other nations don’t want to contribute but that they can’t since the Navies all run on Diesel as well. One little sticky point is once all the Jet Fuel is gone, flights to Aus and NZ will have to stop as they won’t have any fuel to return. On another note – all the Jet Fuel in Vancouver International comes from the Cherry Point Refinery in Washington State by barge and then by pipeline (rapidly approved and constructed since the previous tanker method was problematic). What happens when the fuel is cut off because it is needed for National Interests, again – you can visit Vancouver but you can never leave.

  6. This is what feminism and gay culture has bestowed upon modern Western society.

    1. Some people may at first instinctively laugh at this statement, but it is undoubtedly true that both are at the root of western civilization’s decline the last half century plus.

  7. Someone should tell the Australian gov’t types, so they know it’s best they change course.
I guess being out of diesel will prevent a great convoy to their capital, so they can safely sleep at night without the horns ablazing for weeks on end.

    1. Yah….but watch out for the bouncy castles, can they be inflated at night with solar power!

  8. Surely there is a fleet of electric tractors available for purchase in Australia; because…government planning.

  9. FILTHY LIBERALS don’t give a rip. They hate you.
$19 / Gallon for Diesel in Australia.
This is the Empire forcing its colonies to seal up that fortune and live in squalor.

Canada has the oldest refinery in North America, the tiny Holly frontier near Toronto. All it does is buy crude oil by theLaker and make Food Grade grease and chainsaw oil and some other crap.
We need to leave.. let’s all go emigrate to someplace warm.
    Afghanistan sounds nice

  10. And now farmers buy Sulphur to apply to their crops as free atmospheric Sulphur from Sudbury and such is gone

  11. Pardon my ignorance but I have a genuine question. It used to be Borneo and attending islands had shitloads of oil. Brunei is it now? So what happened to that, it seems the Phillippines are running out of oil too.

  12. Looks to me like Agenda 2030 in action. You can’t eat zee bugs if you have fuel. 15 minute city anyone?!
