  2. What is Iran firing at anyone? I keep hearing how they have no navy, no air-force, very few rocket launchers ….. not much of an army… and all the leaders are dead …..

    1. Iran is a big country and their game has been to develop ballistic missiles, with lots of help. Also cheap drones and the even cheaper sea mines. So we’re back to the SCUD hunt of the first Gulf war, underground launching site, mobile launchers. But the toys are better this time around. Ballistic missiles with conventional warheads are not very effective in the military sense. An awful lot of money just to lob a thousand pound or two of explosives. It works to scare and annoy people, maybe get lucky.

  3. Even if Iran stated that the Straits were open, until there is a ceasefire or formal surrender, who’s going to send a tanker through the Straits within close visual range of a country that is still technically at war? Where are you going to find people willing to crew them?

  7. I assume that opening the Straits also means allowing exports of Iranian oil which is, by the way, currently allowed to flow to export markets without sanctions. Aren’t we supposed to be at war with them?

    1. That completely eludes me as well. The primary market for Iranian oil is China and we should be delighted to starve them of energy.

  8. Remember, the oil going thru the straight is bound for anywhere but the US. Any Iraqi oil to the US is minimal and can be replaced, for now. Hence Trump’s request/demand to the Euroweenies being voluntold to bring their ships.

    Anyways, what are the chances this is all a setup? Trump is well known for not telling anyone his next move, it’s always a surprise. This time, he’s telegraphed the next move? Ya, sure.
    How about a setup to expose the Iranians hidden weapon locations, namely its ICBMs, in order to focus and destroy their remote mountain locations. Should they have been sourced by this time? Maybe, but we’re not privy to those details.
    We just need to hold tight. Iran is in a poor position. Panicans and parrots are worrying and pearl clutching on social media cuz a tank of fuel is an extra $30. Mind you, diesel here has gone from 1.80 to 2.50 yesterday.
    Irans last defences are its small powerboats with short range missiles, torpedoes and kamikaze boats. Mass destruction of those shorelines along Hormuz seem to be the next objective. Notice anything regarding attacks of any sort, in detail, are not in the scope of public discussions.

  10. Oil prices have always been a weapon and of course they are using it to fight the Trump administration. And it’s not the Arabs doing it. Anyways, power stations are nice, big fat targets and once you start hitting those it’s a signal to the nation the gloves are coming off a bit. It remains to be seen the amount of destruction they will choose to apply. In Gulf War one they made sure the damage was repairable by attacking the distribution system. You want people to get a nasty message you target the turbine halls.

    Iran can threaten all the retaliation they want … but the FACT remains that 95% of all their missile shots have been intercepted and that the number of strikes by Iran has been cut to almost nothing. But do they still have some launchers and missiles. Yep. And could they get in a lucky shot? As we all know, anything can happen. But this FOOL is equivocating Trump’s threat with Iran’s equal and opposite reaction. Bullshit. Iran simply cannot carry out their ‘Baghdad Bobby’ threat. Can they still sink an oil tanker in the Straits? Of course. Shit can still happen, and no insurance co. or shipping co. wants to take the risk … until that risk is fully eliminated. Trump has NEVER said that EVERY threat from Iran has been neutralized.

    And the idea that Trump is drunk-posting from MaraLago without any consultation of his military is just the kind of fantasy TDS’ers engage in. Pure fantasy.

    So yeah Francisco … there is great anticipation and uncertainty with Trump’s ultimatum. Suffice to say, I completely disagree with Prof. Israel-hater. I believe that any humanitarian crisis for the Iranian people will be blamed on the murderous Theocracy … not on Trump. A humanitarian crisis might just spark an internal Revolution that will finally END the IRGC and the 6th Century apocalyptic Religion of death in Iran.

    2. Thanks, Kenji, we don’t get enough Hawkwind. My old band used to do “The Psychedelic Warlords (Disappear In Smoke)”. As I recall we recorded thirteen different arrangements, we found it endlessly fascinating.
