  1. Agree 100% with this… if Tim’s has to close some locations because the citizenry of Canada didn’t have enough babies 15-25 years ago, so be it. I’ll find other places to get coffee, 99% of which have MUCH better tasting black coffee (it’s how I like it, just “plain as all get out).

    If Tim’s business model is dependent upon underpaid temps from overseas, I’d say that’s a fail.
    and I think their donut type goods, including the muffins, should have warning labels like cigarettes have, same black banner, with a list of potentially cancer causing ingredients, with a pronunciation guide to help those who attended a public school in Canada.

    1. If Hortons shuts down and others also shut down and/or downsize bigly, I think many lives will be saved. People will lose weight and have more money in their pockets.

      Fast food destroys health …. eat real food and learn to cook it yourself. Wake up!

        I like going to Tim’s in my town. Old people like to go there to shoot the sh!t and solve the world’s problems and bitch about lots of stuff. I stick to coffee and a donut and go about 4 mornings a week. However lately there has been a noticeable increase of the homeless parking themselves at a table and having a snooze. Rather annoying but the poor fellows have nowhere to go. At least they are quiet and cause no disturbances.

  2. I remember the days 20 years ago when Timmies had white staff. About that time, my daughter who was 15 got asked if she wanted work in every restaurant we were in. We’d even be in Utah and she’d be asked. Foreign workers cheat Canadian kids out of those important first jobs.

      1. NME – it’s not the “corporate owners”, it’s the franchisees who are controlling the hiring at the local Timmys’, and they’ve become increasingly East Indian. So of course they’re hiring their own, and won’t hesitate to exploit those workers. Over a fair few years of doing taxes, I’ve come to realize that the worst exploiters of newcomers are usually people from the same ethnic background who managed to get to Canada earlier and – having gained legal residency status if not citizenship – have no problem exploiting others of their ethnicity who are desperate to come here.

      Yup, I noticed the same thing. Twenty years ago, the staff at the Tim’s in my town were 100% a whiter shade of pale. Now at least 50% have a darker hue.

  3. I go out of my way now to not partake Singh Hortons.
    Last bite there was at YVR a year ago, waiting for a flight.
    All duuus there.
    The meal was lukewarm and bland. Clearly, cooked elsewhere, if not just microwaved there, very likely.
    Gross for $20. Swore that’s the last time.
    Even Starbucks continues to hire whiteys, even if they are Twinkies.
    Agree with above, of the Fast Food industry lost 50% of restaurants, I wouldn’t care. But…….
    People would be shocked how many DoorDash and Skip deliveries partake the FF places. There’s an immense amount of people willing to pay the excessive cost of these crap meals, PLUS delivery and tip. Easily another $10 premium on top.
    We live in a lazy, stupid country.

  5. first off, my sense of smell and thus taste is vanishingly poor,
    nevertheless my genral attitude is ‘give me the coffee and a bran muffin lm outta here’
    have taken a liking to the sausage farmers wrap, my appetite makes up for the other thing.
    aka a microcosm of the nation. one day everything will be owned by GIGA Corp.

  6. When I’m on a road trip I avoid those fast food joints that are on the high way. Your guaranteed they are staffed full of Sings. I head into town and stop at one of the local diners staffed by anyone other than east Indians.

    Private equity? I mean if the owners are out to hollow out the business, rape its corpse to extract the last penny before abandonning the shell, what would they do differently? They wrap themselves in the flag and try to exploit the nostalgia of the last Leaf to win a Stanley cup, so long ago Armstrong hadn’t stepped on the moon yet (As I like to reming Leaf’s fans). The coffee sucks, the donuts suck, the food sucks. The staff is barely intellegible. You point at the menu hoping they will get it right. The place is dirty. And you know darned well some of that stuff is past expiry date. I don’t go there, although there is one 5 minutes walk away. We used to grab coffee for the boys at work, etc. No more.

    In the former waspy area of Vancouver — Kerrisdale — at a chain bakery outlet I was stunned to see and transact with what I took to be a bright young white guy whom I presumed to be late high school or early uni. But only once. It triggered a top of mind concern: where are our legacy kids: where are they getting their critical early experience in the economy and needed $$$ ?
    And my conclusion was exactly yours: if you can’t run a business with legacy youth shut ‘er down.

    Recently at Staples UBC I found myself walking thru the store taking note of the demo. 100% Indian. Not 95%, 100%.
    Looks like wholesale hiring thru a foreign agent to me.

    As a former libertarian (aka, silly person) no phrase gives me the shudders like “there oughta be a law”. But, THERE OUGHTA BE A LAW.
