CTV- More than half of British Columbians fear for their safety, survey suggests
The survey found 73 per cent of those polled said crime and violence are impacting their quality of life, and 37 per cent said they’ve been the victim of a recent crime.

My son-in-law and daughter just got back from visiting his parents in Surrey. His family is very worried about the drug gang shootings that are becoming frequent not far from where they live. They’re now very careful if they have to venture out at night.
“Seventy-one per cent of victims expressed a lack of confidence in the justice system as the reason for not reporting them.”
Yes, especially if they are engaged in criminal activity themselves. Like owing money to drug/human trafficker, fake licence and documents providers, underground economy, scams, etc. Also CTV so chances are it’s B.S.
Until the organized criminals in gobernment are exposed and removed, not much will change it.seems.
One word. Shrug….
The best thing about Surrey? Getting past it.
We don’t venture to downtown Victoria, even in the daytime. Full of layabouts, mental cases, druggies, stoners and petty thieves. The CoC continues to write fluff pieces about downtown, and NEVER criticizes the leftist troll mayor for their incompetence.
It’s every BC town and city, even little old Duncan has a drug infested, half human neighbourhood of derelicts and useless skinbags.
Yeah, strong words, but accurate.
And police forces that are nothing more than enablers and babysitters for the wretches.
Went to Victoria in the late eighties, laughed at all the Union Jacks, people there waiting for Queen Victoria to return and rule the Empire. Went back a few years ago, and concluded the people who had built such a beautiful city were all dead and gone.
Explain cause and effect to a liberal.
It can’t be done.
To liberals anyone who can connect the dots is practicing some foul wizardry and can’t be trusted.
Surrey has been bad for decades. We left in 1998. We went to non-Toronto southern Ontario. People couldn’t understand why. I explained it as cost of living, traffic and crime. The locals were already oblivious, even though some had been mugged and almost everyone I knew had suffered a B & E. Sikh temple shootings were already a thing, especially around the time of temple elections. Most ignored it, because they weren’t part of the Sikh community. South Surrey and Whitr Rock were nicer, but the rot was already drifting down from Whalley. We were in the Lower Mainland this summer and the urban decay went from Vancouver to Abbotsford.
Eggselent!!! Everything is going as planned. Right out of the marxist handbook.
There simply aren’t rational explanations why high risk sex offenders and psychopaths like Medhani Yohans from Guelph…(sorry to put an Ontario spin on it but I’m sure it happens everywhere in Canada) was set free by the Judge Matthew Stanley’s of this world.
Putting fear in the community is what the ultimate goal is. A fearful community is a gov’t dependent community.
Yet 71% of BC’ers STILL favor defunding the police. Speaking of getting what they wanted
Source? Sounds a bit high to me. Maybe 17% over the whole province, the 71% might be like residents of one place in BC? I live in BC and I don’t know anybody in favor of defunding the police actually.
OK … 71% of elected BC officials. Does that temper my OBVIOUS hyperbole? Or do you still need a Google search?
What’s your source for that? It sounds like a bogus statistic to me. The only people who ever talk about defunding the police are American radicals. I’ve never heard anybody in Canada discussing it. We don’t have a rash of violent police incidents that rile people up, so why would we want to defund the police in Canada? You’re not talking about Ontario, California or some place like that, I suppose.
I mean, free speech is great, but it becomes meaningless if people just make up statistics or have facts that some blogger in Arizona invented.
Kenji is a chronic brainfarter who often makes things up because he’s a commenting junkie.
You make that sound so negative, somehow.
Boo-fcking-hoo.
“I voted to import cousin-fckers, beach-shitters and spear-chuckers by the millions without vetting them.
I voted for Leftist politicians who want hug-a-thug programs instead of incarceration.
I voted for the appointment of Liberal judges to encourage dangerous criminals to try harder.
I hate my neighbor.
I am Canadian!”
Shithole.
A certain poster often claims that Donald Trump has no right to remove a “democratically elected” foreign leader by force and replace him with someone more to Trump’s liking over the objections of the people who supposedly “democratically elected” that leader.
As if it’s President Trump’s fault that the people who thrust thug-lovers and CCP assets into office in Victoria as well as Ottawa don’t know what’s good for them.
British Columbians, and Canadians, will soon get the government they deserve—a US military governor deputized by the New Sheriff to clean up Canuckistan. First order of business: sending Librano and NDP voters back to the Third World cesspits whence they came.
I doubt it. And doesn’t the site have posting requirements including not advocating the violent overthrow of the government? Or am I thinking of somewhere else? Anyway, seems a bit lightly moderated to say the least.
I advocate the violent overthrow of sumo wrestlers, since that’s what they’re paid for. Farther than that I will not go.
ah jeez. ‘getting what they voted for’ had to chuckle since lve been saying this for 2, 3, 4 years now?
that CRUCIAL ‘X’ and they blindly follow the mob. Trump = Hitler (& biden = autopen)
vote early and often!! cant be illegal on stolen land !!! wheeee !!!!! didwegretitrightohmaster???
hey, Surrey, . . . . . . . . . . . .do . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . the . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . math
Why don’t they just walk around with their Elbows Up™?
“In The Gulag Archipelago, Solzhenitsyn describes the Soviet concept of the “socially friendly” criminal. Under this ideology, professional criminals (thieves and murderers) were viewed as victims of the capitalist system who could be redeemed through labor.
In contrast, political prisoners—the “Article 58s”—were seen as “socially hostile” and irredeemable enemies of the state. This created a brutal hierarchy where:
Criminals were empowered: The state used “blatnye” (hardened criminals) as a secondary police force to terrorize, rob, and control political prisoners.
Systemic Cruelty: Camp administrations turned a blind eye to the rape and murder of intellectuals by criminals, viewing it as a tool for “re-education.”
Moral Inversion: Crimes against property or life were treated as minor slips, while “thought crimes” against the Party were met with the harshest possible sentences.”
Where we’re headed perhaps?
Without a doubt.
L – So, the 100+ B.C. RCMP officers, providing security for the shooting of 330 healthy ostriches. They were pulled away from investigating/taking down organized crime’s takeover of Vancouver. Which happens to include shooting up in drug dens(some of which are gov’t. “Safe Injection” sites et al, which now includes mobsters, kept safe by police being handcuffed, shooting up neighbourhoods in extortion racketeering.
In the U.S. movie studios and tv companies, they make money producing crime dramas. In Canada, the media make a gov’t. subsidized living, by portraying Pres. Donald Trump as Godzilla stalking the border and even appearing on their ballots.
Whereas Triads and Mexican Narco-Cartels and Indian/Punjabi mobs launder $Billions through the “carefully” regulated big 5 banks.
During the panic-demic, every death that could be manipulated into a Covid-19 growing death count was on every media “newscast”. Yet the 50,000+ climbing narco-drug deaths, which rival previous World War levels, are mostly ignored or treated as “harm reduction”.
2026, is live theatre like that, which William Shakespeare could weave into a classic tale for the amusement and moral edification of all, or grist for a Greek Tragedy, where a weeping audience filled the amphitheatres. For we post nation-state Canadians, our legislatures and Parliaments are filled with hubris, produce endless comedies and tragedies…
Delivering on that pledge to make BC more.. affordable.. Hell, in another decade, you’ll be able to pick whole blocks of burned out, syringe laden tenements in Van City for the change in your ashtray.. You may need the military to ‘pacify’ these neighborhoods for gentrification, but Xi would probably help..
Only about half of the province’s voters supported the thin majority of the NDP. If we assume that 73% who fear for their safety are all opposition voters and some who didn’t vote, then it works out to just a few government supporters who answered in the affirmative. Let’s say 45% are also BC Conservative voters, it means 28% are either NDP-Green or non voters. A fairly large part of that 28% could be non voters, the turnout in BC is usually around 60-65 per cent (leaving 35-40 per cent as non voters). In fact all the 28% could therefore be non voters but anecdotally I know some NDP supporters who would say yes to this (not going so far as to blame their party in any way) so it’s likely about one third to one half of NDP voters who would say they fear for their safety.
A cynic might say that indicates half to two-thirds of NDP voters are breaking into homes and cars. But I think that might be a bit high. Never know though.
They may be more spooked in BC after the shooting in Tumbler Ridge (north east area small mining town)
There looks like a man in a dress shot his parents and brother and sister, then went to the school to shoot more people…
9 dead, 25 injured… shooter is dead

“It’s not a woman in a dress, it’s a man in a dress.
Transgenderism needs to be treated as a serious mental problem.
Shooter killed his family before going to the high-school and kill 6 more people.
The Canadian news outlets are referring to it as an ‘incident’.
Tumbler Ridge.”
