  1. Philippe Bolopion, executive director of Human Rights Watch, has raised the possibility to his investors that the “human rights” industry may not survive President Trump’s second term:

“…for the first time, many [‘human rights’ industry assets] worry about risks associated with their operational presence in the US, where the Open Society Foundations, a major donor, have already been threatened, and the administration is preparing a list of ‘domestic terrorists’ under overbroad guidance that could be interpreted to include the work of many progressive groups.”

Naturally, Bolopion does not seriously reflect on whether the “human rights” deserves to survive or what it could have done differently.

They might have started by toning down the anti-Semitism and prioritizing verifiable violations of the human rights of good, decent, dare I say human beings over the lies and wild distortions by murderers, rapists and terrorists claiming to have had their rights violated by the forces of law and order.

  2. When I lived in the Netherlands, everyone who parked their car on a city street removed their radio from the car (the radios just pulled out from the radio slot). Otherwise they’d be stolen.

    1. I had an apartment in Philadelphia in the early 90s and had one of those pull out radios. A lot of people would just put them in their trunk instead of taking them with them into their home at the end of the day. I would take mine into my apartment. One night, a filthy communist broke into my back window, somehow tore the backseat from its connections to the frame to get into the trunk to steal my radio which wasn’t there. I’ve hated Philadelphia ever since.

    2. Adam Carolla has frequently told the story of how he painted the radio in his truck an ugly brown color. Why? Because it was an ingenious theft prevention technique.

      1. As it says in the Book of Proverbs … “Being kidnapped and held for ransom, never worries the poor man”.

        … or the poor-looking radio

    3. Former friends of mine lived north of High Park in Toronto and would remove their radio every night from their Lexus. Then one morning, they came out to the street to find the entire car was gone. At that time, the late 90’s, there was quite the criminal enterprise of stealing cars and shipping them off to Europe. But hey, they still had their radio!

  3. We are going to have a new National Automotive Strategy! Whoopee! Why we need one isn’t explained. But it will give subsidies to all those Chinese EVs Carney is importing … as I feared.

Two days ago Glenmore announced it was suspending its $400-million upgrade of its smelter in rural northwestern Quebec, given environmental concerns raised by the Quebec government.

But not to fear! CBC news last November said the smelter project was still going ahead, despite the rumours. We can all breathe easier.

    1. It’s a funny one. Glencore and the Quebec government agreed on reduced levels of arsenic. I think it was 15 pico-grams. But Glencore wanted assurances from Quebec that the new level was it, that the goal posts would not be changed in the future. The Quebec government is already talking of 3 pico-grams. Glencore doesn’t want to invest all that money into the refinery only to have the government shut them down again. The government is refusing so Glencore won’t invest in the upgrade and therefore the smelter will shut down.

While western mining companies argue with western governments on safe levels for toxic emissions, there are no such talks in non-western countries and that is where our mine materials will soon come from entirely if we don’t come to our senses.

    1. Thanks for the good news story.

P.s. I grew up just south of Butler, PA in the 1950s and 1960s. Mostly farm country and very Republican.

  5. A tank of thinking in Quebec claims there is no business case for liquid natural gas in Canada.

Oh, wait a minute, the tank-du-Quebec de la thinking believes there is a business case for Alberta natural gas … through Quebec to Europe. The plan must be fast-tracked and Canada must act quickly to route Alberta natural gas through a Quebec port.

Giguère writes that the project’s proposed site on Quebec’s northeast coast would have a “significant geographical advantage” over export hubs in the U.S. and Qatar, with a much closer proximity to “high-capacity” import terminals in Western Europe.

In addition to the transfer payments…

  6. Despite complaining of low testosterone over the past 15 years Epstein’s…
“blood test in 2016 reported… positive for… gonorrhoea… whipworm … and histolytica [a parasite], some blood in urine, history of bladder polyps…. “
Herpes and HPV are ubiquitous with the racey Tracys. So… this is about as gross as it gets.
I’m beginning to wonder if Epstein had to inject his germy shvantz, like Weinstein, in order to schtupp.
Also, given this level of infestation and emasculation perhaps he did kill himself.
    …oh yeah, here:

IMHO … No band … not even Led Zeppelin … did Brit-Blues as good as Paul Rodgers, Paul Kossoff, Andy Fraser, and Simon Kirke. These ‘slow’ songs have mind blowing musicianship by every member of the band. These songs are what the Blues are all about.

I love you Paul Rodgers and wish good health and a longer life.

      1. I used to enjoy a wonderful English music magazine called Q, which went belly up a few years back. They once published a list of “bands with dishonest and deceptive names”. It was hilarious – “The Heartbreakers: When Tom Petty’s band leaves town, the local women never show any signs of emotional distress.” And so on.

But I thought it delightful that included Free as a dishonest and deceptive name, because, as they pointed out solemnly: … there were four of them.

  7. Zohran Mamdani’s term has only just begun

Tens of thousands of New York City residents made calls reporting lack of heat and hot water in January, with tenants telling The New York Post they are stuck in unlivable conditions and blame Muslim socialist Mayor Zohran Mamdani for failing to respond to the crisis.
Approximately 80,000 New Yorkers called 311 last month — the highest monthly total on record — reporting a lack of heat and hot water during frigid temperatures…
