    Ottawa is actually petrified over the thought that Alberta could leave and they get openly irate when someone starts proposing it.

    1. Canada could easily survive Quebec separation….in fact, it would be beneficial. Canada could not survive the separation of Alberta either financially or geographically.

      2. Not really — why do you think your government pays them so much bribe money to stay in?
        They can’t afford Alberta separating because that’s where the bribe money is coming from — plus if one province goes, other provinces might start thinking they might get a better deal. They will put any thoughts of separation down with force if they have to…probably (and that is contingent upon whether or not they can use a sufficient amount to do the job — for now it’s primarily psychological operations being used).

    2. I personally think that “when” Alberta goes (not “if), then Saskatchewan and the Yukon Territory will also join the United States, making a land corridor to Alaska. Perhaps not right away, but definitely within a few years.
      I have been self-employed most of my life and the only benefits which I took was the child benefit when my daughter was born (I was a single parent). If I did not work, I was not able to pay my bills. I am so tired of the many grifters in Canada. This was a great country – once.

  4. Sounds like a FAIR trade to me. We get mostly people with MAGA values … and Ottawa gets Fraud, lesbians, and Somali Muslims. Win-win.

        And to Kenji: we don’t trade off ANY of our territory….ever. Much like we do not agree to some stupid ‘national divorce’ that balkanizes our country…ever. We keep it all.
        It can only be a joke used to poke at ridiculous foreigners and our own left.

  11. Trading provinces for states is a funny, tongue in cheek joke. That Kenney got so angry about the joke makes it funnier. The question is why did the joke trigger Kenney?

    It’s not because he really thinks there’s going to province and state swapping. I’d guess it’s because the Alberta separation referendum petition is gaining momentum. The conservatives have a British loyalist wing and I’d expect to see them offering to “help” with the seperation referendum campaign fairly soon. Help meaning sabatoge from inside the movement by sowing discord, doubt and fear. Look for signs of the Brexit Operation Fear Campaign playbook being used by prominent Canadian conservative (and liberal) politicians

    Just my 2 cents worth of an opinion.

  14. If Alberta did decide to break off from Canada, instead of becoming a US State, it might be better to become a US territory like Puerto Rico. No big advantage is they don’t pay federal income taxes.

    2. I think we should become a Free Territory under the authority of the League of Nations. (Me and a few of my friends can easily put together a League of Nations adequate for the purpose.) Then accept American trusteeship.
