Record low temperatures will inevitably be dismissed as an example of changing weather, while any instance of warming temps will continue to be regarded as evidence of changing climate and thus deserving of an ongoing declaration of emergency. I expect we’ll be building ever more carbon sequestration projects, if only to be on the “safe” side.
On Dec. 23, a weather monitoring station in Braeburn, Yukon, recorded a temperature reading of -55.7 degrees Celsius, the lowest December temperature charted in Canada since 1975. For context, this isn’t too far off the average temperature on the surface of Mars, a planet whose lack of atmosphere renders it notably cold and uninhabitable.
Geez! 55.7 below! As my wife says, “Brrrr! Its a real weenie-shrinker out there!”

Reminds me of Edmonton a couple of years back. The NE communities were into the late -40s.

For the Americans here, -55.7°C is -68.3°F, and that’s without any wind chill.
You give them too much credit. There is no need for justification. Instead, they’ll just do their usual “warmest winter on record” story as Spring approaches.
Where I live we had, perhaps, the overall coldest (and mild) Summer in recent memory in 2025. Sure enough, “hottest Summer on record” articles deluged the media as Fall began. They no longer try, because they know their audience.
In February, 1979, Eureka, NWT ( now Nunavut) recorded a mean temperature of -49.9C ( for the month), thankfully, I was posted in March! I believe that record for north America still stands.

Colder than normal temperatures in one area of the world just means warmer temperatures than normal in another. It all balances out.
Just like droughts in one region means more rainfall than normal in another.
Meanwhile our climate change prevention guru, having found a sugar momma, flies all over the world; emulating other climate zealots such as Al Gore, Leo DeCaprio, and Mark Zuckerberg.

We have patchy records of about 150 years..
We have historic indications of weather cycles in the 80 year range.
These cycles appear to be longer than the human attention span,which is 40 -50years..
And then we come to today.
Through institutional decay,we are using Policy based Evidence Manufacturing to shape public policy..
Computer program output as “data”.
A true circle jerk of the committees.
And “Climatology”has it all.
