Canada is dead. The only people having babies are not from here. In 20 years it will be rare to see someone more than 2 generations Canadian. I remember when I was a kid learning that Canada had a population of 20M. Then I learned by 2015 it had increased to 30M. I thought ‘Wow 10M increase in 35 years” . Then Trudeau happened. Canada is dead. This more than anything makes me think the 51st state would not be so bad. But to our US friends here, try not to be too smug. Kamala received a higher % of the popular vote in your last election than Carney did here. AOC is just a razor thin margin from winning. Work hard, we’re done, you have a chance.

While I generally agree with the gist of your point, I would suggest that you are being somewhat hyperbolic.
Bear with me, and maybe my point is an exception to prove your rule that “the only people having babies are not from here.”
I live in a strata hood at the edge of Kelowna that has about 200 houses of modest middle class build. Most families here are youngish tradesmen and teachers and service workers. We have almost 100 little white kids and a few other ethnicities between the ages of infant to teenagers.
Also, my travel routes in Kelowna include driving by a couple of elementary and middle schools which, at recess, are inundated by hordes of mostly white kids.
Maybe, as I said, this example is an exception, but I’d like to think otherwise.

It is very much an exception, BC at 1.02 is a cold hard fact. That means over 50 years your population is less than half, color hardly matters. Here in NS the only ones having babies in any number are newcomers, and it still leaves us near the same extinction level. Canada is done. DONE. The population is aging, older people produce less and cost more in terms of government, and our federal and provincial governments are broke, any increase in spending is absorbed by interest on the debt, any increase in the absurd level of taxes only shrinks the economy and and makes it worse. Canada is DONE, OVER, KAPUT, turn out the lights. Just math. It deserves it’s fate as all socialist shitholes do.
The math in Europe is worse, why do you think they have uncontrolled imigration? Because demographers have told them it is the only chance, slim as it is. It’s not because they are welcoming, Europe is full of xenophobic bigots. It is just caught in the vortex, there is no escape. Shitholes.

It seems to me that financial reasons for the “dearth of birth” are secondary to the pervasive message that career fulfillment should be one’s primary goal. A couple that wants children and puts having a family as a primary goal is scorned. Government policy is to punish the one earner family by taxing the single earner more heavily than the same income earned by two earners in the family unit. Then the punish the family further, the stay at home mother does not need day care but still must pay for it through the family taxes. Finally, there is the expectation that one needs a palatial dwelling before having children.
There’s a dearth of birth on earth,for what it’s worth. Where is Dr. Seuss when you need him?
