  3. I’m in a riding where just about everyone is either Liberal or pinky-yellow Conservative. So after the G’days are over, they quickly steer the conversations to Trump, Trump, Trump. For the past few months my reply has been:

    “Yup, Trump, Trump, Trump! Just keep focusing on that Big Bad Orange Squirrel so they can keep stealing off your plate and keep turning your country into a bigger shithole. That’s what they want you to do.”

      My recommendation is never talk to the police about anything unless it’s through a lawyer. Many well-meaning law-abiding citizens have found themselves in trouble because they wanted to co-operate with law enforcement.

        There’s also the intimidation factor as in the strongly expressed “What do you mean you don’t want to talk to us. Do you have something to hide.”

        1. Unfortunately it is talk like this that puts cops in danger. My daughter is a cop and she puts up with crap like that all the time. That escalates. Cut the crap. Point your anger at police commissions and politicians who direct the policy of the police.

  8. I’d sit on that jury. Sovereign jury. Probs illegal to talk about this once you’ve been selected for jury duty, and best be aware of it beforehand and some of the history of it.

    I don’t see another way forward to fight this. The chances of winning this in Canada is so monumentally stacked against an individual who’s had their house broken into it’s ridiculous.

    1. So the guy who was on probation will get a bail hearing after release from hospital. So exactly what condition must you break to have your probation revoked? And why don’t we have the name and picture of this convicted criminal? The reasons are to bizarre to contemplate. If this continues, who will care about following any laws or rules?

  11. There is so little information given that I see a lot of knee-jerk reactions (maybe that was the media’s intent). Like, were they known to each other? If so, one might wonder if it was a targeted event and why was he targeted. So little info given.

  12. L – The Right of Jury Nullification was established in British Common-Law, as a check on gov’t. abusing its power for political purposes. What is now called Lawfare. It still exists in Canada for
    now, at least. However, the knowledge that it exists is mostly secret in Canada. The court does not apprise the jurors of this Right, but honour it if a juror exercises it.

    The entire concept that both British Common-Law, the very concept of Rights being Natural Rights, derived from God. Oft referred to as birthrights, add in Parliamentary Democracy. That everything is designed purposely as a check, a hard stop to capricious and arbitrary power.

    But to return to the Rights, that Canadians had in the 20th Century, requires dealing with an appointed Senate and appointed Supreme Court, chosen by Justin Trudeau and not replaceable, until they’re 75 yrs of age. This is why the power of Independence has become the only way to have Canadians, even be aware of the arguments.

What the media has taught me today – if an intruder breaks into my home and I successfully defend myself, my family and my property, and in doing so I critically injure the intruder, my best course of action is to drag him into the ditch a couple of km’s away, clean up the mess and go back to bed. If he wants the cops or an ambulance then he can call them, if he’s able.

  19. Apparently the intruder was armed with some kind of weapon and was hospitalized from the injuries. Sorry but if you break in and brandish a weapon and you get rocked by the homeowner that’s tough nuts for you. They’re saying the force was unreasonable here. What’s reasonable when an intruder comes armed?
