I guess most venture capital investors didn’t get the memo about how Canadians were supposed to invest in themselves now that economic relations with the US are strained.
Investors poured $2.9 billion into 254 Canadian VC deals in the first six months of 2025, marking a 26 per cent decline in dollars invested and a 22 per cent fall in deal count compared to the same period last year, the report released on Wednesday said. It was the lowest first-half total since 2020.

L – Getting your invested capital out of a country that doesn’t recognize property rights and whose economy is stumbling… err I mean has been tripped, hogtied and branded W.E.F./C.C.P. .
Could that be a factor?
Oh, yes and will flash freeze your bank accounts, too.
The performance of the TSX should have us all concerned. Its performance, especially compared to the economic stagnation and pending recession, boggles the mind.
It should be down 20%, instead its up, no doubt propped up by the printing presses in Ottawa. Of course, the Big5 make up an overweight of the Index. Healthy businesses but also indicative of how undiversified the Canadian economy is.
Also heavily weighted is Brookfield……………….quid pro quo.
Thinking of moving those profits into Murica, where that $3 plus TRILLION of new munny will reap YUGE dividends
What appears to be gains is really infation. The stock may appear worth more in CA$ but in actual fact has stagnated. In reality, worth less than it was when it was a lower CA$ price a few months back.
Dow UP UP UP … another 400 points (so far) today !!! Ohhhhhhhhhhh mommmmmmmaaaaaa … “Smoot Hawley … anyone? anyone? … Trumps tariffs are gonna plunge America into another Depression!! the likes you’ve never seen!!!” – all the economic “experts” on Apr. 1 2025.
Anyway … here’s a cheerful little ditty to help my Canadian friends cope. Hawkwind, Hurry on Sundown – 1970. ” … see what tommorrow brings”

So?
Have we reached that moment in time when the government runs out of the other people’s money?
It’s not the only reason, but it’s a big one. Regulatory overstep. Canada has regulated themselves so thoroughly that it removed the incentive for entrepreneurship and venture capitalism UNLESS it is an approved industry propped up by subsidies (paid for by those industries that are being over regulated).
The Canadian Federation of Independent Business (CFIB) estimates that the regulatory burden cost the Canadian economy over $51.5 billion in 2024. Small business owners reported spending an average of 735 hours on regulatory compliance in 2024, which is 58 hours more than in 2020.
The regulators have had zero interest in stopping the naked short selling on Canadian mining companies for at least 15 years.

Why should we stop short selling? It’s a good mechanism for pointing out loser public companies, then weeding them out.
And make no mistake, many such Canadian companies are now losers, thanks to the Liberals, with double thanks to the seriously retarded Mark Carney. Probably most Canadian companies, except those with a lot of foreign assets and operations.
Naked short selling is counterfeiting, full stop.
