National Post- Canadian talent (and money) is fleeing to the U.S.
In fields ranging from engineering to law, the average Canadian professional can not only make more money in the United States, but face dramatically lower housing prices and cost of living expenses. The disparity has long been most obvious in the tech sector. In some years, the University of Waterloo’s software engineering department has immediately lost up to 85 per cent of its graduates to jobs in the United States.

Finally! Some educated and cultured newcomers.
But aren’t they taking jobs from Americans?
They’re taking the jobs from East Indians … who took their jobs in Canada
All Indians and Chinese, Kenji. Sorry to disappoint.
At this point the government of Canada basically operates like a smash and grab. One government cones in steals and plunders as much as they can while they’re still in power. Then they change seats around and put a new face on the whole thing and continue the plunder. They’re probably just bored at how easy it’s been. There is no will to change this. If we weren’t right next to the United States our standard of living would resemble Ukraine or perhaps India as our demographics keep changing
Much lower taxes too
“University of Waterloo’s software engineering department has immediately lost up to 85 per cent of its graduates to jobs in the United States.”
That’s because 96% of U Waterloo graduating class every year is Chinese and Indian immigrants, and they don’t like it here. Too cold, too many Canadians.
California is better than Ontario. Nicer weather, hotter chicks.
U(W) CS (and I suppose they’ve finally managed to get a proper software engineering program running now) grads always went abroad in large numbers. No one likes to admit it, but the various software companies in Waterloo were staffed by the C students who didn’t want to leave the university social environment. The only exception was the “secret” Google office in Waterloo.
The software “industry” in Canada is dominated by large financial institutions and NGOs. Those aren’t “fun” places to work and they tend not to hire CS grads. It’s always been like this.
