  1. Propaganda.

LLMs do not reason. At all. Not even a little bit. And they never will.

Blather to the contrary is wishful thinking and LLM companies selling vaporware.

    1. The fact that ChatGPT is transparently regurgitating The Matrix fanfic back at him should have been a red flag.

What LLMs are really teaching us is that the Turing Test is a pretty poor judge of AGI.

    2. Who wrote this article? The Wachowski sisters? Ohhhh you thought I meant the Wachowski BROTHERS!? Silly you … that was before they “transitioned” into girls. You see, their own innate AI refused to let them continue living “the lie” of reality.

Anyone who actually believes in this “gentle” dystopian future is seriously F-ed up in the head.

  2. Punch in “are COVID ‘vaccines’ safe?”. Interesting results. I am concerned that I don’t know what to believe anymore. Seeing is believing, but even the videos are easily faked these days! My advice, try and do your best to insulate yourself from government, media.. Pretty sad really!

    1. There is a great book out there that can provide advice on deception and deceivers, been around for about 2,000 years.

You can believe that LLMs are computer programs made by Woke socialists who are trying to sell you snake oil. It isn’t oil, and no snakes were involved.

If you look something up using an LLM, the answer you get is what some hipster d1ck in California wanted you to think. Same as Wikipedia, but even less trustworthy.

      1. Well now, last time I bought snake oil, it was well worth it. My snakes ran much more smoothly.

  3. There is some gold in the comments on that thread – I especially like “There is a lot of duplicity in the singularity” and the notion of “organize all the AIs into a committee and that will make them totally ineffective at killing us”.

  4. One of the built-in assumptions is that human intelligence is some form of barrier to break through. Rather than a barrier, human intelligence is a wide spectrum and AI blew through the bottom end a long time ago. It will eventually bump up against its creators at the top end, but isn’t that the plan?

In a related matter I tried to update my Rogers account. You need your account number. You can find it in your welcome email. My account started in 2001. There was no welcome email. It was all in-person paper. I’ve had nothing but electronic for at least 10 years. The account number is blanked out in all correspondence. So you have to phone Rogers. Imagine phoning your phone provider. We are experiencing higher call volumes than normal. Every attempt to get my account number leads to one of two options, either to make a payment using your credit card or to access your account online. But I don’t know my user account number so I can’t log in. Welcome to Rogers … press 1 to make a payment.

ChatGPT please design me a web-site that looks helpful but only takes a payment. Link it to the phone service.

    1. I have a similar frustration with my Gmail account, having failed to anticipate that getting a new phone number would cancel the previous 68 years of my existence.

    2. “…human intelligence is a wide spectrum and AI blew through the bottom end a long time ago.”

Nope. LLMs are not intelligent in any way. They -simulate- intelligence to the casual observer, based on training data. If it isn’t in the training, they can’t do it. Any “intelligence” to be found was put there by the programmers.

      1. “…they simulate intelligence to the casual observer”.

That was my point about humans at the bottom end.

        1. True, it isn’t difficult to fool the credulous and the stupid. Bell curves have two slopes, right? “Normal” is taken to be the peak of the curve, meaning half the population is dumber than that. For my money “normal” is nothing to brag about.

Still, it is important to keep saying what things are. LLMs are -not- intelligent, and the more people saying it the better. Even the stupid will eventually understand if you just keep repeating yourself long enough.

  5. Intelligence is a survival feature, not a pinnacle. It happens to be useful now, but will it be the deciding factor in passing on your genes in the future?
