  1. Haven’t seen the linked vid yet, my kneejerk reaction is the War Measures Act is not defensible. Not when the elder Turd did, even less so when the younger Turd did it.

    1. Whether it was or was not defensible, was not my point. I was young but do remember those days in 1970, when the War Measures Act was used. I had the distinct sense that most Canadians were fine with it.

      But now that Trump is taking action to quell the out-of-control violence in a country OUTSIDE OF CANADA, suddenly the same people are outraged!

      1. Trump hate is strong in Canuckistan. Even stronger perhaps than in the US, after all, Trump hate won the Canuckistani election but not the American one..

        I think the only people who thought Pierre’s War Measures Act was bad were some CBC types. There were a couple guys kidnapped and one ended up dead. It was real world.

    2. I started to watch the vid. It is a defence of Turd by Marc Lalond, advisor to Turd and Irwin Cotler, Cabinet Minister for Turd. My stomach is not strong enough.

I remember my mom being very nervous during the October 1970 crisis, she seemed to have the Tv on for the entirety of any given day in those years, it was on when JFK, RFK, and Dr. King were murdered… she was particularly bothered by the murder of Pierre Laporte, I think the Quebec labor minister at the time.
    It didn’t move my meter though, we talked about it while in school at the time though I don’t recall taking a side.
    Marc Lalonde was at the centre of that, but it was his role as Minister of Energy in #Libranos federal cabinet which sealed his legacy in western Canada, he was the one who brought the National Energy Program to us, devastating western Canada so eastern Canada wouldn’t be exposed to the real world price of oil.
    His statement at the time, “we know what we’re doing, we really do” … and I believe him, that the harm he caused us was intentional and an extension of his dislike for western freedoms.

    I hope when Marc Lalonde died, that it was painful for him. Not that it could compare with the millions of people he adversely affected with his garbage idea of how Canada should address rising energy costs.
    Perhaps a final choke, a cough he couldn’t expel, his tongue being swallowed as he feels the end closing in on him. His regrets, too late, a finality to his treachery.

    Millions of people were adversely affected by his choice to put his thumb on the scale of justice, tilted again to favor the eastern devils within tier 2 Canada.

    Someday his image may be carved into the mountain in South Dakota beside the other greats.

  13. I was in centennial Manitoba that year, and I suspect there would have been a reaction against the WMA if it had affected us noticeably, but it didn’t. As it was, the attitude was, if they need this in Montreal, then give it to ’em. Those who thought about it critically generally didn’t like it, but there was nothing to drive criticism. It basically didn’t concern us.
