The new mayor of Oakland, California, Barbara Lee, is a lifelong Democrat. She has proposed that the minimum wage in California should be raised to $50 per hour; and this will solve inflation.
Elections have consequences. Too bad all Democrats couldn’t be moved to Numbskull Island and solely suffer the consequences of the insane policies they vote for.
Lee has a bachelor’s degree in psychology, a masters in social work and a history with the Black Panthers. Economics apparently eludes her.
Piker. The minimum wage should be raised to $200 billion per hour so everyone can be rich.
There’s the same issue with a $20 minimum or a $10 minimum or a $million minimum. They’re saying some people’s skills (outlook and cleanliness and lack-of-tardiness are skills) just aren’t employable.
$50 US minimum wage and all jobs should go to undocumented migrant trans people and if you don’t like it your racist!
ALL of those $50.00/hr. jobs are reserved for illegal aliens and black mo-fo’s. Doing the jobs that ANYONE would do for $50.00/hr.

Oakland used ranked choice voting. So in recent elections the top two candidates have been Candidate No. 1 – not terrible, not great either. And Candidate No. 2 – corrupt, incompetent and left wing crazy. All the runners up in the election are various extreme left wing crazy nutcases.
So when the ranked choice vote of those who voted for various extreme left wing crazy nutcase candidates is distributed to the top two candidates guess who always gets elected. Correct, Candidate No 2.
So the craziest most extreme left wing nutcase voters in Oakland (less than 5% of voters) get to choose who is mayor. And always will as long as the city uses ranked choice voting.
So expect Oakland to become ever more Oakland in the future. A nice little city until the 1960’s. The West Coasts very own Detroit since then. For exactly the very same reasons.
A high minimum wage doesn’t guarantee corresponding productivity.
Soon after my father died, I hired a high school kid to mow the lawn and, later, shovel the sidewalk at the house I inherited while I was away. The minimum wage in B. C. at the time was $12.50/hr but I paid him $15 for the mowing and $20 for the shovelling.
The kid turned out to be lazy, doing just barely the least amount of work he could get away with, particularly in winter. The following spring, he simply quit on me without making it official, even though I was willing to hire him again. (The main reason I did that was because I advertised for someone to do the yard work, but hardly anybody responded.)
By the end of the summer, I finally hired someone who turned out to be reliable and did a good job. He did the same sort of work for a number of local businesses and I was just one more client for him. He worked for me for several years until I finally sold the house.

his complaint when he hit the pcs they would skid all over the place, so he just dumped inordinately large pcs in the hole defeating the purpose and intention.

then at the end of the project he was assigned the task of dumping the remaining waste brick into a large municipal bin inside municipal paid parking lot.

a 2nd individual was hired to do some painting. the whole main floor was covered in dust from sand and varnishing the hardwood floor.
when l cleaned the lite fixtures of dust l saw the chap had hit both fixtures with the paint roller and did nothing, despite the fact latex paint comes off with a wet sponge when still wet eh?

when l was late teens and 20s l ACHED to get a job, nowadays, try and find someone. try it. pay them $25-$30 a pop and see if you get an improvement in performance. gooooooo ahead.

My late sister had the same problem with her front yard. She had gone to yardscaping, no grass, but every 5 years, you must thin out the iris, and pull out the baby trees which have grown from the seeds blown in by the wind. Young men would come out, look at the yard, talk pleasantly and would NEVER get back to her with a price. So at the age of 67, I started to clear out the yard. I would do a 3′-0″ x 3′-0″ section at a time and also double dig (good for perennial flowers). It took me 2.5 months to do all of the work, but it was done. It needs to be done again, but my sister died, the house was sold and the new owners are taking everything out and re-planting grass. That is their vision for the yard.
I hired the second chap for the same $20/hr that I paid the high school kid. I was quite pleased with him because I knew that I could count on him.
I had a Honda self-driving lawn mower and a Stihl lawn trimmer that, for some reason, I wasn’t able to sell. I gave them to him because I knew he was going to put them to good use. He maintained a number of places around town, and already had several machines. Some he kept in reserve while others he had strategically located so that he didn’t have to drag a lot of gear all over the place.

I wasn’t entirely surprised that the high school kid I hired turned out to be a dipsydoodle. Not only did he have helicopter parents, but his ambition at the time he worked for me was to become a professional YouTuber. Yeah, real productive work that is, isn’t it?
I get the same laugh when I see an L.U.B. on a picket line with a sign saying, “I need a higher raise to do my job better.” Government workers and teachers use that line a lot.

And so the consensus is “If they can do it and get away with it, why shouldn’t I?” And then we import immigrants who bring even more false values to the table without any way to judge what they really believe so we get more bad behavior. All in the name of a false, self serving definition of compassion which is not at all compassionate.
Remember the goal. Barbara Lee is a grifter without any measurable character.
