    1. I remember reading of a gang whose members were two women in Donbas and two servicemen in the Russian army. The women would marry the servicemen’s subordinates and the servicemen would quitely kill them, reporting it as combat losses; they would then split the “coffin payment”. I think each of the women managed two or three marriage cycles before they were uncovered.

    1. That idea persisted even into the 1970s.

I was an avid shortwave listener for many years, starting while I was in senior high school. One of the earliest stations I heard was the Voice of Free China, now called Radio Taiwan International. I recall that much of the music that was played while I was listening had a martial theme or tempo, dating back to the time of WW II.

I sent in a reception report and received a verification card which confirmed that I actually heard VOFC at the time and frequency I specified. I vaguely recall that it had sentiments about taking back the homeland and stuff like that. Mind you, that wasn’t entirely surprising as Chiang Kai-shek was still alive at the time.

      1. I just rummaged through some files and found the card. My memory was rather hazy about the sloganeering, as there wasn’t much propaganda on it, but there was one detail which indicated that Taiwan saw itself as the legitimate China. The service that operated VOFC was the Broadcasting Corporation of China.

    1. I’m on a Nanos poll email list. Filled one out last week. The questions are almost always skewed towards a particular result (quelle surprise).

One question asked (paraphrasing), “Do you want the federal gov’t to build east-west pipelines?”

Well, hell no! I want private enterprise to build east-west pipelines, not the useless pricks down in Sodom on Rideau. Unfortunately, they’d take my answer of, “No”, as a vote against pipelines, period. I answered, “Yes”.

    2. I recently received from Angus Reid spinoff Maru Voice a Lieberal propaganda piece masquerading as an opinion poll. It was trying to push anti-Americanism and “Canadian patriotism”.

  1. Speaking of ‘We didn’t make the new rules …’

“The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality found that the group behind the proposed EPIC compound did not submit the required permits to begin construction”

Normally not a big fan of weaponized Environmentalism, but sometimes bureaucratic obstruction is just the right thing to do. Now someone needs to follow the money.

The federal public safety minister asked for a judicial review of a March 7 decision by Immigration and Refugee Board member Maleeka Mohamed who said C.M. could be released from detention on conditions as his claim is processed.

The minister said Mohamed minimized C.M.’s danger to the public “as a drug trafficker and a known associate of the terrorist entity La Familia Michoacana Cartel.”

Blackhawk agreed in her April 1 ruling, saying parts of Mohamed’s decision to release the admitted hitman were “unreasonable, unintelligible and not justified.” She ordered the case be sent back to another IRB member for review…
