The end of the carbon tax – or is it?

Elaboration on end of industrial carbon tax in Saskatchewan – or is it the end?

It turns out the feds get a vote.

The Pipeline Online Podcast will feature Andrew Scheer today, Monday, March 31 at 1 p.m. SK time. The carbon tax will surely be part of the discussion.

  1. I applaud Moe for trying, but we all know how it will play out if Liberals are re-elected.

They’ll (re)impose the federal industrial carbon tax on SK businesses; they won’t pause for a moment doing this. SK will try to challenge it in court. They’ll lose. SK may try withholding payment of said tax from its Crown businesses as a protest. Feds will start withholding federal transfer payments to SK and simultaneously investigate how they might simply take the money owed directly from SK government accounts (constitutionally quite dangerous I think, but feds won’t care). SK will howl. AB will, surely/hopefully, stand with SK. Feds will dismiss them as lawbreakers, tax cheats, in the pockets of O&G, etc.

If & when feds successfully financially punish SK for doing this, it would mark a significant escalation in tensions between SK+AB and feds. I won’t try to project beyond that.

  2. I’m enjoying your collaborations and interviews with thoughtful western female politicians. Andy fits this mould perfectly.

    Keep up the good work.

  3. Sask power is a provincial crown, is it not? C’mon Premier Moe, put on your big boy pants and scrap it. F*ck the Feds. People will support you 1,000%. Make em try.

  4. Thanks Premier Moe for defending Saskatchewan against federal overreach.
We will not comply with the tyranny.
If they impose the carbon tax we’ll hold a referendum.
