This afternoon, in Metro Houston, I was having a political discussion with a very based Mexican friend of mine. He has lived in Vancouver and knows a lot about Canada.

I proffered a theory to him: It is not in the best political interest of the Canadian Liberal Party to come to any kind of agreement with the Trump Administration anytime soon. Given the widespread outbreak of TDS amongst the Canadian population, it’s actually beneficial for them politically to remain antagonistic with Trump et al, no matter how much damage it does to Canadian businesses and families. In fact, in a perverse way, the more Canadians get economically hurt, the better it is for the Lieberals and their well paid media apparatchiks.

Ezra Levant seems to be suggesting the same.

  2. Expect the focus to shift to fentanyl, Chinese influence on our government, and border security. These are the real irritants, not tariffs on eggs.

    1. I hope you are right, 11 of Never. The original big 3 reasons for this situation were :
      1) Bad guys getting into the US from Canada. Yes, far more migrants entered from the southern border, but far more migrants on Terror Watch Lists entered from Canada. I think it was about 6 to 1 coming from Canada, and we (our Liberal government) let those bad guys into Canada in the first place. They chose to enter Canada because we have a huge mostly undefended border so getting into the US where they want to do harm makes Canada an attractive entry opportunity.
      2) Fentanyl. The official Canadian government pablum is that less than 1% of cross border captured fentanyl comes from Canada. With a 9,000 Km border, mostly unpopulated and piss poor control on importation of fentanyl component chemicals and discovery of several “super labs”, does anybody really think this is not a bit of an issue that should have been forcefully addressed over the last several years? Also there is strong evidence of Mexican cartels and Chinese triads coordinating on drugs and money laundering in Canada.
      3) Don’t get me started on National Defence. I was an Army Officer in the late 1960s and I am disgusted with our (Canada’s) lack of commitment, funding, procurement efficiency, DEI etc.

    1. They will need bullets and bombs to do that, I am afraid, and the will to use them. Absent a homegrown anti-government insurgency (which will further destabilize the Northern Border!) I don’t see any way out. And the US will not tolerate that level of instability.

    1. Do nothing. Stick our heads in the sand. Accept what the GLOB (Globalist – Chinese cabal) communists have in store for us.
    2. Accept and hopefully negotiate Trumps offer
    3. Individual Canadians decide to buck up, engage and re-create a soon to be lost country as a post monarchy, democracy. Lots of work and I don’t see the appetite.

  7. As an American, I don’t want Canada. I live on the border here in Montana and we just made reservations in Radium Hot Springs B.C. , Banff and Jasper National Parks for a late May trip. My wife and I prefer to take our vacations across the border and have done so for decades. Yes, I know 1/3rd of Jasper is gone due to fire. We missed it last year by about two weeks.

    Having said that, if let’s say Alberta, Newfoundland and Labrador vote to join us voluntarily I’m cool with that. Here’s how that may occur:

    They only get this one chance to use it and it won’t work out they way they think it will.

    1. Not sure why you call it the nuclear option. Carney can disagree to every request made by the Trump Administration. The longer he remains disagreeable, the higher the Lieberals will rise in the polls.

      If you don’t care about the best interests of Canadians, then you can’t be pressured by the Americans.

  12. The media is a good indicator since they are bought. It’s TDS 24/7. The Liberal party campaign adds have cute little clips of Poilievre and Trump saying the same words, so obviously PP=DJT. So they will burn down this country to control it. More proof: No words on Chinese tariffs, drugs (or that house that blew up in BC) or money laundering. All the reactions from the totally random “man in the street” being interviewed are anti-Trump. They will run on TDS, and poke Trump every chance the get -like Ford- to make it hurt even more. Since the Trump tariffs gave Carney a little bump, they will push this to the max.

  16. Well, if that’s true, I’m sure that’s just fine by President Trump, who has no interest in talking to Mark Carney before Carney is serious about making a deal Trump could possibly accept.

    Meanwhile, the Americans are self-sufficient in food and energy, while we actually have to import oil from the States to make gasoline and other fuels. We can starve and freeze to death in the dark or bake to death in the first heat wave of the summer for all Trump cares.

    Canadians need access to US markets to earn their living a lot more than Trump needs a land border that’s too long to effectively monitor with a satellite state of the People’s Republic of China.

    1. Over the past few weeks, I’ve been watching my DVD copy of the British mini-series The Jewel in the Crown, which was broadcast more than 40 years ago (first in the UK, then on the CBC in Canada, and, finally, on PBS’s Masterpiece Theatre).

      It’s interesting to see how there were two sets of opinions about the British leaving India. There were those who were tired of the situation and were glad to be rid of the region, while many wanted the status quo or were planning on staying on after the handover. Then there was how India was going to be partitioned after independence, which turned out to be a rather messy affair.

      Perhaps if certain regions of Canada made themselves ungovernable, the Laurentian raj will finally come to an end.

  21. This video is a very concise and cursory overview of what needs to be done to get things back on track between the US and Canada. The interviewee is one of my favorites (Victor Davis Hanson). One thing he brings up is something I hadn’t considered. One of the current weaknesses within the US at present is ship building. Canada had (and can reclaim) a reputation for being at the very top of that industry. It would go a long way to solidify the relationship.

    2. I don’t know where you get the idea that Canada was ever a ship building nation unless you are looking at the image of the Bluenose on our dime. We couldn’t source a Canadian company to build ferries, we’re looking to Poland and considering their shipyards to build our supply vessels for our non existent navy. The four submarines we purchased from Britain could not put to sea all at the same time. The replacement vessels needed to bring our navy up to muster will take five years to get approval and another five to construct before we could ever man them providing we have an enlistment program to fill the ranks. We have been depending on America for so long we have neither the ability or resources to build anything resembling a naval fleet. We came out of WWII with the third largest navy in the world and through Liberal policies we now have a navy that rivals Pakistan.

      Check what China has been building over the last ten years and get back to me when we get delivery of our first replacement destroyer.

        On the Left coast, it’s a legacy of Wacky Bennett, a fever dream that still exists in the unionistas out here.
        That was 60+ years ago.
        Yes, there is still a modicum of it here still, but it is small and largely deals with refits and maintenance.
        Naden Base and Washington Group Seaspan, North Van.
        They don’t build ships here for good reason. Costs are extreme vs current locales. That’s not a recent issue. The last large ships were the “Fast” Ferries. We know how well that turned out.

    Robert… EXACTLY what I’ve said, and have been saying since… oh… about a month or so ago, right after the turd announced his &INTENTION& to resign… without actually resigning.

    I predicted that the cons would have a harder time winning the next election if the turd resigned, which is why I wanted him to stay and run in the next election. Then Trump hits us with a tariff war, and I saw which way the wind was blowing.

    Having said all that, I’m still hoping (seemingly against hope) that Canuckistanians will finally wake up, smell the coffee, and realize the truth about Carney, but this won’t happen until the writ is finally dropped.

    OTOH, if the LIEbs actually do pull this off, this may inspire Albertans to finally do something about the abusive relationship they’ve been tolerating from the feds for DECADES. Alberta is playing the role of the abused housewife, with Canada being the abusive husband. Sometimes the wife doesn’t know enough when to leave, until it’s too late. Hopefully that won’t happen here.

Being part of the American Sphere provides lots of opportunity and a chance for great success, but also a chance to fail. Canadians are infants, they are terrified of responsibility and so instinctively opt for the “safer” option, no matter how stifling that is. As children, Canadians can only deal with the here and now, immediate gratification and so ignore geographic reality. Canada may opt for China, but the grownups in Washington will not allow that, so the question becomes join in willingly and enjoy the fruits and perils of liberty, or be starved and then carved according to the security needs the US.
