Canada fans, with Trudeau in attendance, again boo ‘Star-Spangled Banner’ before game vs. USA despite pushback:

The United States and Canada rekindled their hockey rivalry Saturday in Montreal, and the tension may have been greater than ever.

However, the tension was raised by the fans and their politics.

Before the puck dropped at Bell Centre Saturday, Canadian fans booed the playing of the “Star-Spangled Banner” for the second time in as many games involving the U.S. in the tournament.

Fans booed despite the public address announcer pleading with them to “respect” both anthems and the players. The U.S. anthem was sung first and booed throughout.

There is no better example of smug, self-righteous, hypocritical Canadians than the Liberal & NDP supporters in Toronto. We now know for a fact that, besides booing the national anthem of other countries, they also:

  1. Don’t believe in free speech.
  2. Love higher & higher taxes.
  3. Continue to vote for a 9-year old, corrupt, incompetent group of federal Liberal politicians.
  4. Condemned the 2022 Trucker Freedom Protest.
  5. Think of their fellow Canadians, outside of the GTA, as garbage.
  6. Hate Americans.
  7. Are narcissists to a level of 11 on a 1 to 10 scale.
  8. Are the Poster Boys, Poster Girls, and Poster Them of true anti-Canadian values.
  9. Endlessly blabber on about how “open minded” and “progressive” they are, yet are exactly the opposite.
  10. Have usurped Orwell’s “2 Minutes of Hate” to lifetimes of hate towards anyone who disagrees with them.

Correction This happened in Montréal – h/t Dizzy. I stand by my comments about Work Torontonians. I lived in Montréal and always considered them more based.

      The US sacrificed blood and treasure after they got short shrift and taxed up the wazoo for sacrificing blood and treasure helping the British fight the French Indian war.
      Canada was an administrative arrangement made initially to allow the grift that was going on in the French colony to continue as long as they promised to give the “King” (the elites in England) allegiance (aka their cut)

    He wants country X to do something. They say No. Trump makes a crazy statement about what HE is going to do that impacts country X. Country X has a strong reaction to Trump’s statement, which usually involves doing a lot of what Trump asked for originally.

    Trump’s 51st state comments are a reaction to Canada’s wokeness reducing their military ineffectiveness, and Canada getting too cozy with China. The US can’t afford that on the northern border, especially with the Arctic region growing in importance.

    If Trump’s statements get Canada to regrow a pair, he got what he wanted again.

            The only hope:
            1. A radical downsizing of government by 50% or more.

            4. Elimination of systemic racism, oops, I mean DEI (same thing)

            A small start. we have maybe two years to do all that, with luck. Canada is not up to the challenge.

  20. It’s interesting to see the sharp divide in the reaction to tariffs. One side is mortally offended the Americans would do such a thing. The other side is mortally offended at the first side’s stupidity. 🙂

    So you know my bias, I think the tariffs would not have been needed if the adults were in charge. My opinion is the current party in power is more interested in staying in power than they are in governing. Should the law be upheld and the Conservatives get elected in the next few months, their first course of action should probably be to tackle corruption and organized crime. Once that happens, a number of other problems will most likely resolve themselves.

    The down side is that Canada will probably go into a long recession and nix my retirement. That said, I’m willing to work an extra ten years if it means my children and grandchildren are handed a better country than the one we have now.

Yes, Canada has great players but the Americans play together in various national programs from an early age. They don’t have to get used to playing together. It usually takes the Canadians a few games to figure things out. They may not have that luxury any longer.

  26. It’s not just easterners and it’s not just city folk. I live in Vonda, a town of less than 400 about 35 minutes away from Saskatoon. A significant number here are buying what Trudeau’s selling. Now, one could argue that the fine folks of Vonda should have been in Tommy Douglas’ master’s thesis – “Subnormal” does appear quite frequently as a middle name here. But how do you explain Co-Op? Co-op is buying Trudeau’s crap as well – did not take them long at all to stuff the “Buy Canadian” patriotism junk in their flyers. I’ll be sure to keep that in mind when I pick up the Co-Op Gold store-branded pasta that’s made in the US and the Co-Op Gold pickles that are imported from India. That Co-Op thinks that their juvenile patriotism will fly speaks to the understanding of the western market – they know that people are, indeed, that stupid. Is it any wonder that I often see a Cybertruck in the Attridge Drive Co-Op parking lot?

The enormous outflow of capital into the U.S. due to the upcoming rejigging of the investment climate in the U.S. is the threat.     I doubt Trump will do anything regarding Canada (except make insulting statements) until Canada chooses its next leader. Why would he bargain with someone who could end up being replaced soon? He’s a negotiator. You don’t start seriously talking until you’re facing someone who can actually make a deal. No one in Canada right now could actually make a deal.

    And if Canada chooses Carney, then Trump’s insults will become something more real and painful, because Carney will never offer anything that Trump wants, nor will he ever make our northern border any safer for us.

    But if Canada chooses PP, then talks will be had, and things will get done and settled, and we’ll all do okay, because Carney is, right now, the adult in the Canadian room.
