Crazy Talk

When Canadians talk about what to do about the current trade spat, is it too much to ask for the insane strategies, like cutting off electricity to the US, to be taken off the table? Or do we not mind cutting off our own electricity too?

According to documents filed with the B.C. Utilities Commission, BC Hydro imported 13,600 gigawatt hours of electricity in fiscal year 2024, at a cost of nearly $1.4 billion.

“It’s very disturbing that British Columbia’s now relying on 25 per cent of our electricity to come from outside the province,” Barry Penner with the Energy Futures Institute told Global News.

“Most of that’s from the United States…

  1. Well, see, cutting off power to the US mostly affects Quebec’s revenue stream, so they aren’t going to do that. It’s not like they give a crap about BC, Alberta, etc who are reliant on grid integration.

    1. But I’m venturing a guess that New England is going to have a few more alternatives to Hydro PQ four years from now.

  2. The average Canadian is an innumerate, scienceless fool, who hurts smart people with the presence of the vacuum in their heads.

  3. I haven’t heard any announcements on the new Canadian Fentanal Czar. Trudeau is probably looking for some left leaning desk jockey that runs safe injection sites to head this up.

I don’t think Trump is in any mood for delays and proscranation. I see the Mexicans have moved their troops to the border.

I think Trump expects action like that and he won’t put up with the delays on the Canuck side.

Expect tariffs in less than 30 days here.

    Just sayin……

    1. Your are right. The Turd has no intention of complying to Pres Trump’s border security. The Turd wants the US to place tariffs on Canadian exports. That way the Turd can be the white knight standing up to the US to improve the Lieberal parties popularity. Of course stupid Canadians will fall for the trick. The Turd does not care about the disastrous effects the trade war will have on Canadians. The brainwashed Canadians will blame Pres Trump for the Turd’s failures.

      1. Of course stupid Canadians will fall for the trick.

Here’s another one. After Trump declared the tariffs were on, Blackie was postulating that he may recall parliament if the opposition parties would agree to a drug/border pkg which, I’m fairly certain, would have been given the thumbs down. I was waiting for him to hit MotherCorpse, pissing & moaning, about how the mean Conservatives were refusing to cooperate & the tariffs were all their fault, etc., etc., etc.

Now that the reprieve has been given, watch it happen in 4 weeks.

    2. I think in 27 days or whatever it is now, the Real President is going to say “here’s your newly adjusted tariffs” and they’re now 50% so good luck, call me after your next federal election” … “call me when you decide to stop f’ing around” … “call me when any of your opposition parties figure it out” … or don’t, I don’t care.

Followed soon after by a couple of auto plants being shuttered in Ont/Que and Premier Ford who apparently has widespread support in Ont, taking US wines off the shelves again. As if that has anything to do with the border problem.

      1. Yup.
Like Marc says tariffs in 21 days.
Maybe Moe and Danielle can convince The President to make Western Canada a separate offer.

Never in Canada’s history can two provinces be peeled away so cheaply and easily.
Like Peterson said, all the USA needs is a better offer than what Ottawa is doing to us.

The entertainment value of such an offer would be enormous.
With no money,no army and massive debts, what is Confederated Can Ahh Duh going to counter offer with?
And who will believe their promises?
And should we vote to go..51% is all we need, thanks Quebec..
What counter offer can Ottawa have to the USA constitutional guarantee of rights and freedoms government dare not abridge??
Do Westerners get to keep their guns?
Against an Ottawa promise to expropriate them at less than market value?

We are not threatening to leave Canada, for Canada left us a long time ago.

        1. The West just needs to get it through their heads that Canada is a kleptocracy. It was designed to steak from the west to give to the east.

          1. And, so long as the west continues to tolerate the arrangement, the east will do absolutely nothing about it. Why would they?

Nobody’s coming to save Alberta nor Saskatchewan. They have to save themselves.

  4. Welcome to the discussion of several weeks ago where we pointed that turning off the power creates more problems than it solves, not the least of which is forcing your ratepayers to pay for generation shedding, and other issues with instability of the grid because of the volume of unRenewables.

    1. You know what BC should do so they don’t import electricity? Make their own. Not difficult. But they don’t do that so screw them. They could get natural gas next door, run some turbines and there ya go. Probably could do it cheap too. Or build friggin dams.
But let’s be serious: the people talking about cuttingthe juice off in the middle of winter to the biggest superpower on earth that has a President with an actual pair that talks about a 51st state are buffons or dangerously unhinged.

      1. This confrontation needs to happen.
The majority of this country’s citizens can’t get it through their heads, that this is a thoroughly corrupt government, acting in the best interests of China, the EU, and Klaus. The Liberal/NDP coalition is anti-Canadian, but then, I’m speaking to the choir.
I want this battle to happen. Think SCORCHED EARTH. I would be happy with 100% tariffs. I would be happy with small minded commies here cutting off the US from hydro/pipelines, etc.
        Why?
Because the retribution will be 10x worse on this admin. Eastern Canadas refineries cutoff from product. The lower Rainland cutoff from American gas, diesel and Av Gas, probably the most strategic cut!
Block the Borders from all traffic, turn them into Checkpoint Charlie’s. Block the ports with the US Navy. Pressure like the commies in this country have never seen before.
Call Canada a Chinese vassal state!
Treat Canada like a hostile state, which it is. Individuals with clean records will be just fine to enter and leave travel.
That’s the real need here. Make the charlatans in this country HURT. And, the pressure must be kept on.
Let’s get it on. Nothing will change here unless there’s a real revolution. Because right now, the LiberalCommie coalition is just trying to fool their way thru this temporary hiatus on tariffs. I don’t think for one minute these fools are serious about anything, so they must be made to pay.
Whatever relationship we had with the US disappeared years ago, when the Lieberals started their Hate America campaign, probably starting with PeeAir the First. The Lieberals started it.

  5. No.
    Keep the crazy talk.
Far better they be encouraged to shoot their mouths off and expose themselves.
And turning off the electricity would destroy Gang Green.
Without the cross connections the wild, unreliable and erratic power from “Alternative Energy” would collapse the Provincial Grids..
    Do it.
    Do it now.

And letting the crazies babble on with their little revenge fantasies is glorious amusement.
“Turn off the oil” Followed by “Line 5 does what?”
The Canadian Emoters are perfect examples of A.I..
    Arrogant Incompetence.
These are the enemies of civilization.
    Liberal,NDP and Progressive Conservative voters.
Let them shriek,God knows we need the laughs.

    1. Yes. I want to see everything on the table. Especially the pickle slicer. I want to see what Justin Trudeau sticks in it.

    1. Trump is so far ahead of Canadian politicians, they think they are first…..but are about to be lapped for the third time.

    2. Just a note to Brian Zinchuk: I didn’t make your name a punchline for the mentally ill. You did. Let’s see Trump blink at that.

  6. We are blessed with no shortage of elites that want to up the anti with no awareness of the emptiness of the hand they’re playing. With one refinery in the lower mainland which relies on Washington state refineries for much gas and diesel, that’s just one example of the interdependencies.

  7. We are a country without a leader or a sitting government. Who speaks for Canada?

Make no mistake Trump has Canada as his target. My guess is negotiating a new trade agreement begins immediately. It will be Texas league hardball with Trump throwing the ball right at our head. Supply management is one of his irritants.

    Good.

    1. Supply management may be headed for major reform, since Wisconsin and upstate NY are very big dairy producers, and I understand, very enthusiastic Trump country.

Seems logical Libs would be much weaker in Quebec if SM were…gone.

And Canada would see much lower dairy prices across the board. I imagine upstate NY and Vermont would be very competitive in supplying fluid milk to the Montreal market.

  8. Not that I would doubt Penner’s claim, but I skimmed the linked document twice, and then searched for the terms “import” and “export,” and I couldn’t find any reference to physical volumes imported or exported. If anyone can point me to a page / line number, I would appreciate it.

  9. It’s not just electricity that the Lotuslanders are dependent on US supply.
Cherry Pt refinery in Anacortes WA supplies 60% of YVRs Av gas. And an ‘unknown’ amount of gasoline to BC.
Nice airport ya got there, shame if something happened to the fuel supply!

  10. The insane strategies are all they’ve got.

They’ll only do the sensible, responsible, grown-up thing—resign and offer law enforcement all the information they have on the Librano mob bosses—once they’ve run out of other options. And maybe not even then.

This is not about “free trade” or “Canadian sovereignty.” This is about Justin not wanting to be a cellblock whore in an American prison for the rest of his life—and Chrystia not wanting to be extradited to the Russian Federation to face the consequences of giving aid and comfort to enemies of the Russian people.

This is about Canada’s supposed “elites” trying to escape the within-an-inch-of-their-lives beating they so richly deserve from men like Donald Trump, The whole lot of them are not worth a hair on Trump’s pubis. The sooner they are made to understand that, the better off the rest of us will be.

  11. With a bit of luck, El Turdeau will stop the shipment of Alberta oil/natural gas to the USA, which will mean the closure of Line 5 which – while running through the US – is the major supplier to southern Ontario, Toronto, Pearson Airport, and even Montréal. Given Ontario and Québec have said “no way” to the Energy East pipeline, it would serve them right to find themselves extremely short of oil and natural gas.

  12. Amazing what Trump has done in a few weeks, living in every Lib/Dem head 24/7.
He’s done more to make Canada Great Again.
    Buy canadian products
    Build pipelines coast to coast
    Bring back LNG
    Strengthen the border, ports, etc
    Crush fentanyl criminals
    Expose Lib doublespeak
    Set Lib hair on fire
    Expose China influence

  13. Either way Trump will get what he wants

They can work with him or he buys up all the debt the government currently holds and then tells Ottawa
“Actually you were for sale, and the US now owns you”

    1. Given that U.S. government debt is even worse than Canada’s (even when weighted by GDP), the U.S. is in poor position to buy up anything.

At any rate, such spending would require congressional approval (I think), and I can’t see it getting through.

      1. Now that’s reasoning! Stick your head up your ass, and argue on the basis of what you can’t see.
