Several B.C. friends are suggesting that Christy Clark may run to become leader of the federal Liberal party:
Justin Trudeau’s resignation has put former B.C. premier Christy Clark squarely back in the political spotlight.
Clark publicly expressed interest in leading the federal Liberal Party in October 2024 but noted at the time the job was not open. Now, of course, following Trudeau’s announcement on Monday morning, it is.
On social media Monday, Clark posted messages in French and English, thanking Trudeau and wishing him well:
“As a lifelong Liberal I look forward to joining tens of thousands of Canadians to choose our next leader,” she said. “This is the biggest opportunity in over a decade that we’ve had to grow our Party and welcome new Liberals — including Canadians concerned about the future of our country — let’s seize it,” she said.
She pretty much burned her popularity amongst B.C. voters but is likely an unknown to most Canadians, so perhaps has a shot.

“Clark was premier from 2011-2017 and leader of the B.C. Liberal Party, which was never affiliated with the federal Liberals.”
She was gone before I started reading SDA regularly to learn more about Canadian politics and the players. I’ll be following comments on her chances and past performance.
I found it interesting that the B.C. Liberal party was not affiliated with the Federal Liberal party. Was the B.C. crowd even farther to the left than the Federal Libs? Is that even possible? Was she not far enough left for the B.C. denizens? Is she crooked enough to keep the Federal trough filled?
Questions, questions. I’m ignorant on the topic.
As far as Liberals go, Clark is not terrible. She is following the lowest Bar in Canadian history so there’s no sense in comparing her with the Spawn. She got caught up in allegations of corruption in trying to do the right thing in privatizing BC Rail. She’s not insanely Green. She was relatively fiscally responsible. Recently, she joined with two leftist Canadian women in pimping for Kamala which should exclude her as credible given how that looks from Trump’s perspective if not on it’s own. She would be less evil than globalists Carney and Freeland. If the Canadian Eloi (mindless mushy middle) reverted to the LPC, she would be relatively less harmful than the other names so far. Not being part of the Spawn’s herd as well as being feisty, she would be more of a challenge for PP in the election campaign.
Sorry, John. Christy’s very, very bad. I guess you might call her a blue Liberal but she’s a Liberal through and through. She’s believes in nothing but power. She’s a ditz and my God, did you see what she was willing to do in a desperate last-ditch effort to stay in power? Read up on it b/c it foreshadowed the FedLibs “out-Lefting the NDP” strategy; perhaps aping what McGuilty and Kweer did in Ontario before that. She’s rotten to the core; an empty shell of a human with no real accomplishments outside politics.
And a constitutional vandal, asking for dissolution in 2017 in an attempt to pick and choose the legislature she’d answer to…hmmm, now that I think about it, wouldn’t that make her perfect for the job of LPC leader?
Have to agree with Lamb, as a lifelong BC resident and political junkie. Krusty is a lifelong LIBERAL. She was married to Mark Marissen, a longtime Liberal operative, a back room operator.
The old “BCLiberals”, while technically a coalition party, was largely made up of federal Liberals who needed a provincial home. They instituted the first carbon tax in the country, and had many other left policies introduced during their second term from 2005 onward.
I will never forget when Krusty was voted new leader, after she abused and manipulated the membership and vote process to become leader, of course, it’s Liberal MO.
The cameras focused on her in the hallway for her grand entrance to be introduced as new leader. As she entered, here she was, in a nice, snug, body hugging outfit accenting all her curves, as she pranced/wiggled into the grand hall. My first thought was We Are In Trouble, she’s a Bimbo. True enough.
No, Krusty was useless during her term of power, she loved being leader, but she accomplished nothing notably positive in terms of legislation or personal benefit of the citizens. She wants power for power’s sake. IOW, a LEFTY LIBERAL!
She’s got tits and a Vajayjay so…cue the Joy, right?
I foresee, and I’m sure I’m not alone, a push by the Progs to get a woman voted in.
Juthtin’s ordainment in 2013(?) got in the way last time.
Carney’s a honky.
Freeland has the necessary fallopian tubes, but smell’s like the Turd.
So Christy, why not?
Lots of “conservative” women will vote for her, all the Liberal ones will.
Just a theory.
I think Joly is higher up on the Lieberal Totem pole. She’s paid her dues and has a national profile. She can outBimbo Krusty, though, they are clearly similar as to be the same.
Neither will save the party from devastating defeat.
Fed Librano$ deserve the fate of K Wynne’s Ontario Libs: they should all fit in a minivan.
BTW (since discussion is who deserves to be in Ottawa) Bloc Quebecois should NOT be at federal level. They can play in their French sandbox all they want but they should not have any legal status outside Quebec.
That can be fixed
Just have the HoC change the rules for official party status by adding the requirement that for official recognition a federal party must actively campaign in more than one province.
I suspect it would be relatively easy finding support for Quebec leaving confederation in the western provinces so they should have no problem establishing at least one riding association outside of Quebec
Call me crazy, but I think Canada desperately needs to get its financial house in order. I feel out of step with the majority of baby boomers (my close friends and some relatives do agree with me though). I have always tried to live within my means, save money for a rainy day and for my old age, but most boomers have treated their homes as ATM’s and most boomers have worked for large corporations which has given them good corporate pensions and benefits. As a self-employed woman for 25-30 years, I did not qualify for lines of credit and so had to always run my business on cash. It was very difficult most times, but when it came time to close the business down, there was no debt.
I do not have much confidence that Christy Clark or most women would be good choices for leadership. Perhaps Danielle Smith – but she is working hard to get Alberta’s house in order.
Castreau hedged his resignation with so many subtle provisions in order for it to be realized Canada may never see him actually leave.
If the people had the will to force Parliament back in session would they have the guts to vote him out with no confidence?
Christy Corrupt would be a perfect Librano PM.
She already has Warren Kinsella’s endorsement.
You said “he’s already working for her” wrong
Well, of course. WK was a verminous Iago to Chrétien s Jafar. Selling out/us to China is just as peachy-keen to him as it is to his evil French Godfather. What a maggot.
I understand her French is not that good.
That was my first question – is she fluent in French? To be the leader of a political party at the federal level with a chance at forming government, French fluency is a non-negotiable necessity.
Echoes of Kim Campbell? She is from the same province. PM Mulroney stayed past his due date and most of the country hated him by the time he was done. Let’s hope the Liberals are reduced to 2 seats or so as well.
I agree Christy Clark should run in Vancouver Centre.
Former Provincial Premiers don’t make it as Prime Minister.
quebekki decides who will run the country 9 times outa 10.
Proximity to the Pacific Ocean induces mental illness. You were warned.
Maybe nobody gets a shot. Trudeau is staying on as PM until a new leader is chosen.
What are the chances of the latter happening by 24 March 2025?
It would require a Kamala type coronation of joy or a repeat of Trudeau’s top-down appointment as leader.
This time, however, the newly minted leader becomes PM. Carney, imho the frontrunner, has no House seat.
They would have to parachute him in somewhere with a byelection called and held by then.
No way they try, even if it’s possible, because they risk massive embarrassment should they lose another “safe seat.”
So Trudeau leads the party into Parliament, the NDP/Bloc wake up, defeat the government and their lame duck PM.
While this collectivist charade should have been euthanized this past fall, Grit grifters aren’t home and dry just yet.
Yep
He basically forced the party to coronate a new leader or face the next election with him on the ballot.
Someone should go to the trouble of nominating Trudeau to run in the leadership race… only need 300 liberals to do it (100 in each of 3 provinces).
The phony that is the liberal party hack for our riding was on CBC yesterday and he seems to be on Team Freeland.
Freeland won’t sell in quebekki. They don’t like her.
She might, tho sell in Ukraine? After Zelenskyy gets forced out by Trump…she can then fight both Poutin and Trump ha
Can’t see anyplace left for her in Canadian politics. She’s a spent force.
Liberal leadership candidates may have to cough up $500k to run.

Xi is pleased.
Expect lots of Chinese “donations”.
Sorry Cristy but a nice rack isn’t enough to entice me to vote liberal.
Christy’s post-secondary career (note: she attended all three campuses but alas, ne’er to matriculate) is as follows.
She got:
1. An STD at SFU;
2. Sore buns at the Sorbonne, and
3. An Enema at Edinburgh
PS – I was doing my undergrad at SFU when she got expelled for cheating in her bid to be elected as Student Council President. Fond memories…!
She sold the BC interior railroad under a less than full disclosure process . Her brother was involved in the purchase.
She blocked pipeline expansion from Alberta. That alone will ingratiate her to eastern libranos.
You wont have to look too far into her background to find more questions than answers.
If she runs she might be the only woman in the race tho. Most of the current elected librano women have been defiled by the Bong – by association. They can’t make the case there are any differences between who/what they are and the Bongs policies. Clark can and she may be fingered by the LPC to commit political suttee in a hopeless election – and receive a suitable sinecure at some point in the future.
Thanks to all above who gave me some insight into who Christy Clark is in the Canadian political world.
I’ll have a bit more clue if she remains part of the leadership and PM conversation.
