  1. National Newswatch – Seniors outraged for being left out of $250 cheque
    cbc article

So gist of article you don’t get the cheque if you did not work.

IMO But you did your taxes paid tax on your pensions. You cant work because of a disability, are too old, are struggling to makes ends meet, Oh and in Trudeaus words you got a 10percent increase (which only to those 75up).
I can’t say what I would like to on here. I would say more But iam going to work and iam a senior, think I want to, no can’t afford to stay at home anymore

      1. My OAS went up ten dollars a month, somewhat less than 10%. Every year I have to write a cheque for a little over 4,000 dollars for the taxes they say I didn’t pay throughout the year. They want me to remit quarterly for taxes on money I haven’t received yet, I refused for the past two years. Avaricious leeches that produce nothing.

      1. I suggested on another thread that any of the readers here on SDA that are so inclined should send in 50¢ a week and by the time MSNBC comes up for sale, we should have enough to make a serious bid.

We wouldn’t have any money to run it as a going concern, but at least we could have fun playing with the cameras and lights while we sell off the assets on Neighborhood Marketplace.

  2. Apparently these are the two racist lines in our navy song that no-one knows exists.

“To honour we call you, not press you like slaves”
“We’ll fight and we’ll conquer again and again”

Apparently saying sailors were free not slaves is racist. That is beyond stupid. To be truthful, back in in the day, the Royal Navy pressed a lot of sailors into service. “Fight and conquer” is racist colonialism because the Royal Canadian Navy would rather lose and sink. Note that this song was from before Britain had a significant empire. Stupid nit picking bullshit.

  3. With respect to the”eco-illiteracy” – I have lived in Saskatchewan for almost 11 years and love the province (could do without the massive snowstorms though). Unfortunately, when my sister’s estate is settled, I must move to the “belly of the beast” – Ottawa, to be closer to my executors, family and friends. I have learned so much about the primary industries – farming, mining, forestry, while living in Alberta and Saskatchewan, so will hopefully be able to argue effectively against the people who I run up against in Ottawa. Sadly, at almost 73 years old, I have come to realize that there are a lot of “willfully stupid” people in this world.

    1. Ottawa, the belly of the beast, isn’t really all that bad. The bad press is mostly related to politics and center-town area. We have the same idiots as everywhere in the surrounding areas.
You’ll find it damper in winter, which makes it feel colder than it is. More humid in the summer, so hotter.
And you’ll probably be surprised by the lack of intensity about politics outside of the parliamentary precinct.

From your note you’ve probably lived here before. It is still a gorgeous town with lots to do other than politics. While returning home from travels, I look forward to getting back into Ottawa.

Unfortunately we do have that blister of a government taking all the oxygen out of the room.

      1. Just in the the airport leaving Ottawa now after 3 week visit, my takeaway is that it’s a relatively sad & depressive place.

The people I interacted with fairly normal Canadian fare, except the guy in a business suit ballroom dancing with himself in the grocery store…..

        1. It is what you make of it, I suppose.
Last three weeks I’ve gotten in 8 rounds of golf, a few nature walks with my GS pup. Some nice morning walks through my neighborhood. Colors were pretty good up until that one really frosty morning, then everything fell off the trees like snowflakes.
I’m in the west end, so away from all that center-town crap.
Couple of weeks the canal and parliamentary precinct will be lit up. A lot houses in my area already hanging lights.
Only local politics is selecting our Conservative candidate and who on the local community association is going to be looking after the rink. Most of us are pissed with the TURD, but that is about it nationally for now, waiting for an election.
Just normal people getting by. With our share (plus some) of the crazies.

    2. I’m in a somewhat similar position; but I refuse to move. My enjoyment of my lifestyle, my community and the people in my community is far too important to be destroyed by a decision made for clerical convenience.

  4. The ICC is obviously a ridiculous concoction that we should never have joined — let alone be eager to obey — but it’s a bit interesting to look at the charges: Netanyahu, starvation, denial of aid; the unlamented Hamas guy, murder, torture rape. Sounds pretty balanced.

    1. What the heck do you expect? The chief prosecutor of the ICC who proffered the charges is a fecking muslim c*cksucker. He’s just sore that his homies are getting the living snot beaten out of them by the Jews.

  5. ‘That the soldiers and statesmen of a sovereign nation should be allowed to be judged by the whims or perversions of a foreign judge in a foreign country. Any time. Any place.’

The facepalm here includes the fact *anyone* should be allowed to be judged by the whims or perversions of a judge, foreign or not *without the slightest punishment* when the case crumbles in a higher court due to a complete lack of credible accusation and evidence.

In many countries, judges are gods without accountability.
