October 21, 2024: Reader Tips

This evening, we travel back to 1996 to watch the pilot episode of That Girl. Though you might not be familiar with this TV series (I wasn’t), it actually served as a forerunner for the much more famous sitcom, The Mary Tyler Moore Show.

Bonus: Here’s an old Monty Python clip about a man who is going to jump across the English Channel. While watching it, I made a mental juxtaposition with Leftist coverage the past few years. Not altogether different in terms of the level of preposterousness!

Your best tips of late are always welcome here!

  1. I think you meant 1966, Robert.

I was six years old and didn’t see the original airings. I saw every episode in re-runs though.

    1. I’ve been to Galverston. Just thought you’d like to know. Partly because of this song.

  2. Ah, yes… THAT girl!
At the risk of revealing my true age, I remember watching that show while growing up. I don’t know why, but Marlo Thomas as Ann-Marie always reminded me of my late aunt. Must of been the jet-black hair.
Who said that it’s blonds that have more fun?

  3. i think a far better Python skit for the current Canadian Clown Show, is the skit they did about the race for ” The Upper Class Twit of The Year Award” where the contestants had to compete in such tasks as…. leaping the wall of matchboxes, shooting the tied down rabbits, taking the bras off the dummies and the grand finale killing themselves for the grand prize I do think that Justing would win that and so be named as Upper Class Twit of The Year.

    1. I watched a Python skit Saturday. It was a librarian reading to children who was horrified that the books kept becoming sexual and too graphic for children. He kept switching books but they were all perverted like in some nightmare. Weird skit.

  4. I watched That Girl back in the original run and in re-runs. I don’t see much similarity between that and the Mary Tyler Moore show.
