The stolen cables often disable entire stations, forcing EV owners on the road to search desperately for a working charger. For the owners, the predicament can be exasperating and stressful.

This could singlehandedly destroy the entire electric car industry.
However, it is also unfortunately a sign of an entire society self destructing. It is simply not possible to guard against every imaginable form of theft. Western civilization thrived mainly because the vast majority of Westerners were honest hard working people. If the thieves can’t get their copper fix from cutting charging cables, they will steal traffic signal wiring as they have been doing in California.
Nothing that can’t be solved by hiring cable attendants at every outlet.
