  1. Wrong clip? Was expecting lizzo fat jokes, not lame song about insurance.

South park has been going downhill fast. A few funny lines now and then, nothing like it used to be.

They took their billion dollars or whatever they got from HBO and paramount and are just sitting back laughing.

  2. I think OP is smoking something. A cartoon critical of the US healthcare system is very off brand for SDA. OP will now be taken to break room and made to repent until a polygraph proves that he is inline with current partisan talking points.

  3. “Oprah said so”

That sums it all up. Forget the complexity of the American medical system … it’s absolutely NOTHING like that whatsoever … unless you want ANY kind of pain killer narcotic. THEN … you will be treated like a drug addict and told to go get your meds on the streets of Vancouver … for FREE!!!

But Oprah said so … that’s the mentality of Americans today … they actually believe Oprah has some order of “special” knowledge. After all … Oprah told us that beef is unsafe, apples are unsafe … and wood cutting boards are unsafe. Ohhhhhhhhhhmommmaaaaaaa … whatever Oprah sez.

  4. The American system is better than the Canadian system, but its still a far cry from how good it would be if it were able to operate as a free market.

  5. So that’s Lizzo. I have not seen anything about her other than a couple of still images.

I’m not an investment professional so this is opinion and not investment advice, but I’d go long on Little Debbie Snack Cakes.

  6. I think it’s funny that the attack is against the insurance industry and medical industry, when it’s all driven by the government regulations and the tax code, which is there because the voters support the politicians that create it. In other words, you get what you vote for.

Entitlements from the State are like wishes from a Genie. They’re always perverted into something that makes things worse. The only solution is to not make the wish in the first place.

  7. I watched the whole episode. They get sent from doctor to doctor. In Canada you’d still be either looking for a general practitioner or scheduled for your first specialist appointment in about a year.

  8. Canada has streamlined the system.
    Patient, “I have xyz.”
Doctor, “We can schedule MAiD for you tomorrow.”
    And, scene.

  9. Rather than single payer, the US opted for central planning of the insurance end of medical care. It preserves the veneer of a free market doctor/patient relationship, but under the surface it’s just a variation on the Soviet approach to economics.

My Canadian GP referred me to a specialist 3 weeks ago. I still have yet to hear from the specialist even to book an appointment.

    1. I’ve been waiting over a year.

Remember when we use to read about all the stories in our media, about kids and sometimes adults needing specialized care/treatment/surgery, that wasn’t available here in Canada, so donations were asked for them to go to USA for the medical care they needed?

I still don’t have an actual physician, but do get access to a nurse practitioner.

My cousin in Ottawa, did a test that stated she needed a colonoscopy – her new immigrant physician told her: “I don’t call patients with results – it’s up to you to follow up”. Eventually she had a polyp removed of late.
I worry as this will not get better.

  10. You know there is some truth in that clip when you go to seek treatment and you’re paying cash you can get a 15% reduction in charges without even negotiating. The third party (insurer) billing process is a significant cost and delay for all parties (doctors, hospitals, and patients). One of the worst things they did was add on all the unnecessary mandates of Obamacare onto everyone’s insurance. It made catastrophic insurance policies quite expensive. In Canada there is just two parties, the system and the government rationing it, patients are just a bother.
