Another Zero Percent Interest Miracle!

The most likely “solution” to an eviction crisis will be to either prohibit them entirely, thereby throttling rental supply even more, or slashing interest rates which will cause real estate values to soar even higher. The world’s economy is clearly between a rock and a hard place.

City marshals carried out 12,000 evictions last year, with 550,000 eviction cases filed since 2019. These numbers are reminiscent of evicting entire populations of mid-sized cities. The cause? A vicious cycle of increased living costs, including food, utilities, and healthcare, outpacing incomes and making rent unaffordable for many.

  1. Have you checked out building material prices lately? 4X8 sheets of sheathing plywood used to sell for $20 now its $39. All the price increases are similar, who can afford to build a house now, all this stems from the “great lockdown” when supply dried up and prices skyrocketed, they have come back down to their current level but thats really still not great. Most provinces have so many regulations strangling builders from actually getting on with the job that they really aren’t building much unless you contract and pay upfront. Not too much “spec” house building going on around my area.

  2. eviction gonna become one of those archaic terms

  3. New Yorkers voted for this, they can live with the consequences.

Hopefully Texas will send more immigrants to the sanctuary city.

New Yorkers can solve this problem:
    – vote for some other party
    – double or triple up on housing. Have two or three families share a house or apartment. Bunk beds could come in handy.

  4. One of the cities in california has declared that you need to pay to get rid of tenants, even if they are at the end of their lease.

There are other locations proposing 1 month of rent per year of occupancy.

and of course there is the cash for keys that is starting to show up in Toronto.

  5. Socialists will soon have high living costs, high rents, no supply, *and* good cash for keys.

The supply will adapt to all this, socialists can’t change laws of nature. But they can destroy your economy.
