Congratulations on your retirement. Your last task before you go is to train your replacement, xher.

I’m trying to figure out her value to society.

Some people are farmers or factory workers or welders or construction workers. They go home, have dinner, and maybe take their kids to their chosen kiddie sport. The family goes on vacation; someplace warm if they have a bit of money or to the theme park for a few days. They knock back a beer or a cocktail and relax. They lend a hand to their neighbors.

They may love or hate their job, but it doesn’t matter because they know their work is worthwhile. Other people depend on what they do. They have a lot of value to society, though they often go unappreciated until their contribution is scarce or goes missing. Then they are treated like the gold they are.

They are valuable to society. Whether or not they spend any time thinking about it, they feel good about themselves and what they do. There is pride and dignity in taking care of yourself and your family and not depending on others for your existence. People need to feel that they matter. That their life has meaning. The ones i described matter, and somewhere inside them at some level, they know it.

Now we have far too many people who in no way fit the description above. But they still want to think they matter. IMO, the person in the video has chosen that schtick to make her feel like she matters. She’s convinced herself she matters because of it and now she is trying to convince us that somehow, it’s important.

It’s not working.

I suggest she should switch to fixing cars or building houses or constructing bridges. That ought to get rid of the need for that superficial sense of self-worth with no need to convince others that she matters.
