Tories have ‘successfully’ scapegoated carbon price in affordability crisis: Trudeau

  1. “Bank of Canada governor Tiff Macklem said earlier this year that carbon pricing was responsible for only about one-twentieth of inflation this year, as the inflation rate hovers around three per cent.”

Let’s do the math. The current carbon tax is $65 per tonne of CO2. The average Canadian is responsible for about 15 tonnes of CO2 per year, either directly by burning fuel or buying products that require fossil fuels to build and transport. That’s about $1000 per person. If a household has three people, that’s $3000 / year.

And it gets better. The carbon tax is scheduled to almost triple in the next seven years, bringing it to $8000 for the three-person household.

This seems high. Where have my calculations gone wrong?

    1. Marmot, I don’t fault your calculations. The real problem is that we cannot trust the government that publishes either estimates or their projected actions in the face of those estimates. You can be 100% mathematically correct in both your analysis and projections and if the government decides that they need more money or they don’t like your attitude, they will lie in your face and deprecate you in public. They are communist Marxists where the only truth that is valued is the one they create, and keeps them in power.

And their stated goal, via Agenda 21/2030/WEF is to reduce the world’s population by 95% down to 500 million people in total and they don’t care who dies to get to that goal as long as it isn’t them. They will lie, cheat, steal, and kill with impunity. Facts and truth are an inconvenient casualty in their war on humanity.

And keep doing the math for your own sanity and share it with as many as you can because the mob goes crazy as group, sanity is restored one person at a time. Thanks for taking the time to point it out.

      1. If their stated goal is to reduce the population, why not just bring on the glowball warming and let it kill off all the people they think it will?

        1. The short answer to your question is “Because its cover is useful to them”. It is a useful cover to siphon money. It is a useful cover under which to gain influence. It is useful cover to deflect blame from their actions. It is a useful cover to cloak their policies in a veneer of moral righteousness. It is a useful distraction.

        2. “Never let a crisis go to waste .” – Rahm Emanuel, former mayor of Chicago and political advisor/ friend of Barack Obama

First, the ideological scare tactic is a common ploy used by every dictator. Most people freeze up and do not think critically when scared (see the following YouTube link by Billy on the street: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bzDlS6JPUtE
Thus, people will usually take the first approach offered them when scared. Mobs of scared individuals do not think; individuals think, but the mob reacts. Keeping people scared means they focus on survival as opposed to noticing the real issues. Thus environmentalism is being used as the “squirrel” distraction for a canine.

Second, every villain excuses their own actions. In the case of climate change, the argument goes as follows: without sweeping change to society, we cannot halt or delay the inevitable climate change and destruction of our species. The narrative matters more than the facts. What our government and our schools are doing is deliberate: why have children look forward to a bright, healthy future when the teacher can scare and maim their psyche with fear of an impending apocalypse and make them a willing pawn to manipulate? It’s about control, and the fewer people there are, the easier it is to control them.

It doesn’t matter about the hypocrisy of their actions. Never mind that reducing population will make the infrastructure much more fragile; never mind that the first world countries because of their affluence and costs of living are naturally dying off without immigration. The rich and powerful want more, and they will use whatever excuse necessary to take control away from you. The target is our mobility, our freedom, and our independent thinking.

Why do the Liberals target free speech through mandatory registration of e-companies and blogs making $20 million in revenue? Because critical thinking denigrates their policies, and dictators cannot stand criticism. It’s bad for their image. Thus, make criticism “misinformation; preservation of values is branded “hate speech”; standing for ideals is “offensive language”, unless you espouse what they think, you are outside of their good graces and deserving of nothing but scorn and enmity.

Why the rage against gasoline and diesel vehicles? Because they can be used to let people escape or for armies to rally. Gasoline can be stored off-grid. Thus, the Liberals want to remove our independence and make escape or fighting onerous and burdensome. Electric vehicles are dependent on the electrical grid, and the government owns it. Thus in line with control, you resist them, they can cut your mobility and livability. After all, it is for your “safety”. Who are you to turn up the thermostat in winter so your wife and kids don’t freeze to death?

Why target lawful gun owners when criminals in Canada get most of them through back channels and ignore the law? It’s to make the populace afraid of criminals and dependent on police for their safety. Remove the most powerful tool for home defense, and the criminals like predators can feast as they wont. But don’t mind the fact the prime minister travels with 40 armoured cars, all of whom are armed with automatic weapons and body armour. You pitiful peasant, who are you to require security for your friends and family? Who are you to defend yourself, a person made in the image of God?

Why the push by the Liberals towards central bank digital currencies? Since 2015, 800 Canadians have been “debanked” for various reasons, including the Freedom Convoy. According to an interview with a former sniper who used to serve in the Prime Minister’s entourage, all of his accounts in Canadian banks were forcibly closed and drained of money within a month of his resignation. They didn’t remove his mortgage payments, or his credit card debt, mind you. That was punishment; how dare he leave his post out of his own free will. Hope his family loves the food bank!

Why promote technologies like wind and solar, that are ecologically destructive and less efficient? ( Don’t get me started on the number of birds killed by giant wind farms, or the species that have been maimed in the oceans for the ones offshore on the US eastern seaboard). Very simple: the government will be the ones who decide who lives and dies. All in the name of a simple philosophy: “we have the power; you don’t. Obey us, slaves.”

Global warming and climate change are the distractions while they erode our freedoms and independence. The end goal is control. Reducing the population is merely a byproduct.

          1. Good comment. I would add that high levels of socialized human importation including many who are not amenable to western civilizational norms help keep the fires of crises going, resulting in more pretense of salvation by the Jacobins and Bolsheviks of the politicized state and institutional “partners”.

    2. KM, your calculations are fine. Justatwit is engaging in a lot of double-talk because the carbon tax is buried in the cost of things and not clearly identified. If you buy something at a store for example, the sales tax is clearly indicated as to how much it is. But Justatwit’s government has concealed the carbon tax as much as possible.

Now that it has inflated the cost of everything, Justatwit’s government is starting reap the reward it has sown for itself by the increasing public hatred of his tax. Hence he’s lashing out at the Opposition for pointing out his deceit.

    3. The BoC is lying. They only factored the direct costs of the carbon tax… energy. The cost to heat your homes, or put gas in your car.
They deliberately obfuscated the indirect costs, like, for example, if Truckers have to pay more to transport food to the retailer, they will have to charge more to cover their costs. The retailer then has no choice but to pass on those increased costs on to the consumer in the form of higher prices.
Really, anyone with less than half a brain could understand that, but I guess lie-berals don’t have even that much grey matter.

      1. It’s more than just the truckers that carry food to the retailer. The dealers that sell equipment and parts to the farmers pay carbon tax on shipping, on light and heat. The trucks that haul the seed from the suppliers to the farmer. The grain drying equipment, the heating of livestock barns. The trucks that haul the harvested grain. The factories that make the fertilizer, and the trucks that deliver the fertilizer. Same for herbicides and pesticides. All those factories pay carbon tax on the energy they use. The factories that turn then grain into flour and food. The trucks and factories that haul and process the beef and pork and chicken and fish. The stores that sell us the stuff pay carbon tax on their heating and electricity. Their staff are feeling the pinch, so they demand raises.

An exemption of the tax on fuel used by farm machinery is a joke. It’s such a tiny part of the whole ripoff, but Canadians and their leaders don’t seem to understand that. Or don’t want to use the calories to think about it. Intellectual laziness has become endemic.

All of that goes into the food prices. A “little” carbon tax is not little at all. The damage accumulates and multiplies at every level until the consumer wonders what’s wrong, and the Liberals then tell the people that the big grocery chains are just being greedy. Like Trudeau admitted, he doesn’t think about monetary policy. Well, duh. SDA regulars can see that, but the rest of Canadians watch the TV and swallow the lies whole.

      2. The BOC was deceptive by focusing on current inflation (that is, the CHANGE in the price of the carbon tax), and not the total current cost of the carbon tax.

But if the carbon tax is not rising much right now, it won’t contribute much to inflation. So what? It still costs a huge hunk of cash. And if the projected tax hikes go ahead, nearly tripling in the next seven years, it will contribute significantly to inflation.

    4. Not all carbon taxes are the same… for example, Quebec seems to be around $15/ton on it’s cap and trade program, which the government of trudeau accepts while screwing everyone else.

Additionally, the government only collects $8 billion in carbon taxes, ans supposedly returns most of it to people, which seems to be unlikely when you have a $65/ton tax and 670 megatons of emissions, it begs the question where the other $35 billion is…

  2. Come on, man!
The carbon tax that is designed to increase costs and prices of food and heat for Canadians doesn’t increase costs and prices of food and heat for Canadians.
Or at least that’s what liberals tell me.

  3. Trudeau would have it both ways.

To be effective at reducing CO2 emissions, the carbon tax must be high enough to hurt, to compel us to change our habits. But at the same time, the Liberals would have us believe that it’s inconsequential to a typical Canadian’s budget.

So which is it? Does it hurt or doesn’t it?

  4. Numb nuts says we’ve come to rely on the rebate cheques. So, no rebate cheque without carbon tax.

Let’s see how this works. Remove carbon tax and save $1,000 in carbon tax expense. Take away rebate cheques for say $400. Trudeau says I’m worse off here? Idiot!

    1. “Numb nuts says we’ve come to rely on the rebate cheques. ”

Literally (and I use the word “literally” quite LITERALLY), spoken like a true communist. The whole idea with communism is to get people to rely more and more on government instead of themselves. That’s how totalitarian governments exact control.

Canadians are really that stupid. They don’t realize that they have become communists themselves, and it’s the government that dumbed them down… again, to keep Canadians ignorant so that they are clueless as to what’s really going on.

  5. It’s all going to end badly … mostly for the left who will see their dreams turn to nightmares that will shatter their delusions and destroy them.

Maybe I’m just wishing out loud, but I cannot see anything good coming from leftist policy. Especially the policy of starving the citizens into compliance or revolt. Take your pick.

    1. Two words… Scorched Earth. There is nothing more dangerous than a dictator who is about to lose control. The left will go apesh!t, and turn our country into a flaming inferno, then turn around and claim, see? Climate Change did that!
They’ve already tried that stunt by deliberately setting forest fires this past summer, and if that didn’t convince you the climate is changing, they’ll figure out at even more disastrous policy that will absolutely scare the living excrement out of you.

      1. Their entire MO has been controlled demolition of everything. It’s been scorched earth for a while now and they’re ramping up to battle speed. Get ready for a major disruptive event to be used as a pretext for further subjugation.

  6. Relax, in another 250 Million years the continents will have drifted back together to form Pangea Ultima. While you will be able to walk to London, unfortunately it won’t be there due to all the calderas, earthquakes, tidal waves and screwy magnetic poles.

    Have a nice day 😀

    1. Possibly be a huge mountain range between us and London thrown up when the two plates collide. The Appalachians could rise again.

  7. It’s really right in the article “The parliamentary budget officer has said that about eight in 10 households end up with more from the rebate than they pay in carbon pricing, largely because small businesses pay a significant portion of the carbon price but get less than one-tenth back.”
They assume none of these small businesses are passing the cost on? What idiot believes that, besides Trudeau?

    1. “They assume none of these small businesses are passing the cost on? What idiot believes that, besides Trudeau?”

Exactly, Greg. That’s why I laugh when I hear “Tax the rich!” or “Make the corporations pay more!”…because the people spouting that nonsense are completely disconnected from reality. Whatever taxes, fees, surcharges or levies you impose on any business entity will ALWAYS be passed on to the consumer. Always. Every single time.

The government is well aware of this fact, too. The beauty of the carbon tax scam is that so many people will actively defend it, even as the government offers ‘rebates’ that are less than we really pay and also claims to be using that tax money to mitigate the effects of ‘climate change’ while actually putting most of it back into general revenue, to be used for their pet projects and only in regions that help get them elected again.

(oh, and of course our when GHG emissions go *up*, not down, this is then used as an excuse for more carbon taxes. Win-win for the government…not so much for regular Canadians…)

      1. Fred, and Greg, Rebates???? What rebates? I ain’t seen no rebates!!! Where the F are my rebates???

In reality, it’s just creative taxation. When the Guvmint draws in ninety percent of everyone’s income through “creative taxation”, We won’t be able to complain cuz they will remove your ability to survive.
It’s really simple, obey or be disappeared. I suspect most of the Eloi to obey, those of us that refuse to comply, on anything they deem relevant, will be removed from society. They can’t have us dissidents messing with their control policies. If we don’t fight now, we won’t be able to, when they gain full control!

        Resist!

    2. I read a comment the other day that really struck home for me.
“If Liberals understood anything about the economy or human nature, they wouldn’t be Liberals”

A little to accurate to be funny.

      Geoff H

  8. As the other side becomes increasingly hysterical about the “climate crisis” never fail to remind them of all their other dire predictions, and how accurate they were…
The polar ice caps will be gone by 2015 – MSM, et al. 8 years after that deadline, the caps are doin’ fine.
Greta – Most of humanity will be dead in 5 years (issued in 2018). It’s 2013, and Gaia only has a couple of weeks to meet that prediction.
New York city and other coastal cities will be under water – I forget the predicted date, but there are a lotta lefties still in their beach houses. This prediction is why Biden promised to make all the highways in the US a few feet higher.
PP and others may mitigate the policies to do less harm, but the policies themselves are based on a lie. As long as that lie remains in the public consciousness, there will be policy nudges in the direction of error and harm. Even as window dressing, minor adjustments, or mere virtue signalling to placate the LIV’s, any policy based on a lie will create harm.
It’s why leftie cities descend into madness. Policies based on a bizarrely incorrect view of human nature (or of Science or History) always do damage.

  9. That’s why I kept saying from the start that Harper was way too polite, “just not ready” is too good. PM is a liar and a petty little dictator, all in a narcissistic package. Also complete moron, bad acting and no shame whatsoever. He’s a cancerous tumor for Canada.

    1. But he spoke soothing platitudes to the receptive feelings of swooning urban and suburban voters!
The Canadian electorate is brain dead stupid.

    2. All true, Dan. But Canadians and the Liberal Party in particular have far too much respect for the Trudeau name. Until that is purged out of the Liberals, they will fail to be a respectable alternative to govern the country. And when only one party is remotely respectable, that’s a highly dangerous situation. It will take at least another generation for the name “Trudeau” to be purged from the living memory of Canadians.

One could argue that the last truly respectable Liberal Prime Ministers were Louis St. Laurent followed by Lester Pearson. Perhaps also Le P’tit Gars. But not Justatwit and his atrocious father. Or any of the dimwits who tried to follow Chretien.

  10. How’s about we make these ‘teachers’ select a year in which the end is to happen….
It will be in that year we terminate their pension and benefits.

    Apocalypse immediately extended.

  11. I would not in fact be surprised, or all that upset, if “the world” (the Empire of Mammon, without whose bounty the vast majority of climate hysterics would quickly starve to death) did away with itself in ten years or less.

And not because of climate change either.
