    1. I curled for years, got too busy and stopped. I laughed, not my ass off, but did laugh when they started using the “push” brooms. Try melting the ice with a good old Avenger, that took work.

    1. I would argue the gay commissar’s role is not to encourage more gay people to play curling but rather to indoctrinate curlers into more support of gay people. To move the bar to the left, one sport at a time.

    Drove past my community’s lawn bowling green last summer and judging from the looks of the participants they’re a few birthdays away from it being gone forever.

Being a first generation Ukrainian-Canadian, my parents emigrated from Europe after WWII, I am deeply offended by Ted Wyman’s statement…. “…There’s a need for the curling community, across the country, to reach out to new communities — Indo-Canadians, Filipinos, Ukrainians, First Nations, LGBTQ and others — in order to make the sport more of a reflection of what Canada is all about…”

    I wonder, aloud, why Ukrainians are lumped-in with people of color. I guess since Genghis Khan and his Monguls moved westward in the 1200’s…and Ukrainians are not a “new community”. If Ted were a true “jounalist” he would have known that Ukainians like me and Hal Tanasichuk were curling likely before he was born…

He’s been in the sport long enough to observe that everyone is welcome … if they abide by the ethics and rules of curling, i.e. fair play, sportsmanship, self-policing, respect for the opponent. No curler cares what colour, size, sex, age, weight, nationality, religion you are. The skip of the current men’s world champions Bruce Mouat is a homosexual but no one cares because he doesn’t go around flaunting it in everyone’s face. The questions are “do you make shots”? Are you a pleasant person easy to get along with and enjoy a game and the socialising afterwards?” Curlers in Canada care about Einarson not because she is Metis (never knew that till today) but because she seems to have a mental block when representing Canada and has done poorly. Another immortal curler in the 1980s was Al Hackner, a native, which no one cared about either, since he won. I’ve curled for more than 50 years and have always found it to be a meritocracy. If certain cultures, especially immigrants, do not readily flock to curling in Canada, it’s that they retain their foreign culture and do not assimilate. This news article is about pure elitist wokeism that has permeated elites with a false problem. Unfortunately Mr Epping seems to have swallowed that pill. Get a life John.

    The real problem for curling these days is economic. Clubs close because it’s too expensive to run a giant fridge when energy costs and inflation are skyrocketing. When curling became an Olympic sport many people in many countries decided to take it up as a chance to get to the biggest sport party of all. As a basically amateur small money sport, it is still possible for outsiders to rise to the top. Witness Qatar and Saudi Arabia becoming part of the World Curling Federation, thought they haven’t fared too well in competitions to date.

And seeing as how Blacks are a far smaller minority I would say its an even bigger problem than having a majority white country having a majority of whites in curling.
