CBC: There’s now a Bank of Canada number for carbon tax’s impact on inflation. It’s small

And that’s why they pay them the big bucks.

“…this estimate applies only to the direct impact of the carbon tax on those three products that are included in the consumer price index (gasoline, heating oil and natural gas). It does not attempt to capture any second-round or pass-through effects.”

    1. The bigger impact on inflation is still caused by the Liberal’s: No pipelines to get more oil to market which leads to no investment in the upstream which leads to insufficient oil and gas supply to meet demand which leads to higher energy costs which leads to a higher cost of everything. Even if there were pipelines, the Liberal’s continuous proclamation that they will shut in the oil sands drives upstream investment away which leads to…

    2. it’s not possible to calculate, because most of the hidden costs of transportation of the products to stores…

  1. Will the Liberals and NDP factor in the ‘greenhouse gas’ contibution of the tens of thousands of new housing construction (upstream and downstream) needed to address the ‘housing crisis’? Highly doubtful.

  2. So in other words, they DIDN’T calculate the inflationary impact on carbon taxes.

    Probably were told not to.

  3. Yeah, when I read that ridiculously low number for the inflationary impact of the carbon taxes I knew they were being deliberately deceptive. How to Lie with Statistics is the Government of Canada, Statistics Canada and Bank of Canada’s go-to manual to provide government funded media propaganda material to try to deceive Canadian citizens.

I don’t think it’s working, most Canadians live in the real world and realize they are being manipulated.

The “fools” in central and eastern Canada might finally be wising up, if you believe the polls. Severe economic stress and a cost of living crisis tends to do that.

        1. Naah, they’ll just blame Harper…….and Trump, (but then Trump’s a given…especially after he smuggled the Ukrainian Nazi into Canada).

  4. How about the posted amount the government uses as a “mileage” allowance for any travel using a personal vehicle on government work?
How much has that gone up since “le carbon tax” was introduced by the Liberals?
The big foreheads in finance can estimate the “lifetime” cost of any major DND procurement project over 40+ years, like the F35 to thier political advantage when necessary.
Send the dud subs to Ukraine, what’s a few billions?

  5. Always get down to dollars and cents. Right now the carbon tax adds about 14 cents per litre…. that’s 7 bucks a tank. If you fill up a 50 litre tank each week… do the math. Tell me how that is not adding to inflation? It only gets worse if you’re a farmer, or a trucker. or a manufacturer. It all adds up.

  6. Hate to say it,but crony capitalists, should just be pushed off a cliff.
if Canadians ever do get righteously aggressive , we will probably get Marxism, and the bankers and the rest of the crony capitalists will still fit in at the top.
A cliff is the only cure.

  7. 30 seconds to sum up the problem, from Republican Congressman Kaetz… Florida district #1
When adjusted to tier 2 Canadian currency, it applies equally to the Bank of Canada’s problem, to general governance in Canada, and to cauliflower being $12 a head 2 months from now…

Remember “stop spending stop spending stop spending stop spending”? from the Chicago Board of Trade…
Well they didn’t and here we are, it’s everywhere, and it’s not going away…

  8. Of course, the impact is calculated to be small. It will give them justification to raise it while still declaring it valuable.

  9. That Bank of Canada estimate wasnt worth the paper its printed on. Of course they did what those Nazi cheering arseholes told them to do. Because they are Nazis. Its what they do.

  10. So they didn’t calculate the effect of the carbon tax on diesel fuel? Since farmers burn diesel to grow the crops and transport it to the market and truckers burn more diesel to transport the crop to the plant and burn diesel again to bring the food to the grocery store the carbon tax must have a significant impact on food prices.
This is a whitewash worthy of Orwell’s Ministry of Truth.

  11. When I was involved in bunting heads with the government, it was always what wasn’t said that was most important.

  12. Well, now Dear Führer Justine Turdeau and Reichsführer Freeland can pull more new tax regimes out of their collective ass with virtually no effect on inflation.
